Cheapest way of buying minifigures

legomentallegomental Member Posts: 370
This is possibly a very silly question but we don't collect minifigures so this is a new area for me. Is it better to buy some sets with the minifigures required (& then just use the bricks) or buy them separately and if so where is best and most cost effective?

Looking for ewoks (any type) & stormtroopers for a 6 year old to 'battle' with. Hence not looking for collectable as such. We don't collect star wars at all so only have what's contained in the Ewok village so far which apparently is woefully inadequate

Did you check BrickLink.com? In my experience, that's the best place to buy single minifigures. You can buy them new and used there, you just have to compare prices and see what works best. Otherwise, I would reccomend looking for sets that have both desirable minifigures and desirable parts at the best discounts you can find.

If you are looking for a bunch of stormtroopers and/or ewoks, I would recommend buying several Ewok Attack sets(they aren't too expensive), which have two ewoks, a Biker Scout, and a regular stormtrooper.  Or you could buy some of the 2015 Advent calendars, which had a biker scout, ewok warrior, etc.(you could then sell the figs/pieces you don't want)

As it happens I am selling an Ewok Village complete with mini figs. I don't want to sell just the figs but if you're interested in buying it all and then selling the set without later on, send me a message.

the Stormtroopers are probably cheapest via the battlepacks you can buy in stores for $12-15. Stormtroopers tend to command a strong price on Bricklink as many builders army build with them. Bricklink is your best bet for Ewoks as the enormous Ewok Village is the only current set to feature any.

You can find one 'common' ewok from the old LEGO magnet sets where the magnet was detachable. I'm guessing those will be found on bricklink. They are not as good quality as figures found in sets, but they should do the trick for a 6 yr old.
I just checked and sadly, it seems sellers are asking a lot for them now. You can also check for figure lots in local ads, craigslist, or on eBay. I think you picked the wrong time to want to buy ewoks as the only set with them is the Village right now.
Stormtroopers though appear to be available in the battle packs currently sold are are a decent deal per figure compared to the price of the 'set'.
