Nexo Knights 2017

DedgeckoDedgecko Member Posts: 798
What's everyone's thoughts?

Nothing really changed from the leaks, this just confirmed my concerns... All vehicle sets, with  a lack of structures and base building.

The builds are all pretty mediocre looking.  IMHO, the only interesting items are some of the new baddies, which I will purchase on Bricklink.

Hopefully the second half of 2017 will provide something that will finally pique my interest beyond new Minifigs.

Like the bad guys. They will good monsters/aliens for my mocs, but otherwise they're not for me.

I really liked the first 2 seasons. This third one is ok. I hope they look better in person.

Like the look of the named villains and nice to see a variant of the queen (but captured again so maybe she shouldn't be a Knight! )

My opinion of these is much the same as the first year - some interesting parts but not a fan of the concept.

The fact that the queen and the little girl are both in the Damsel in Distress role, depite the queen now being armoured up (and I seem to remember someone saying that the cartoon shows her as a stronger character than the king) just sucks - I've nothing against having a character in need of rescue but two sets that have that both use female characters, at least one of whom is meant to be able to look out for herself...wow, that's lazy use of stereotypes

I am very pleased they are doing another wave. I do agree they need to do some more buildings instead of just vehicles. This wave needs a couple of spooky castle sets to add to the creepiness of the bad guys. Hopefully that still happens.

The new villain minifigures look awesome! I love the guy with the new molded rocky lower half (not sure how to describe it). I think it's interesting that they're using a recolored Bellatrix hairpiece for one of them. It makes me wonder if this means a reissued Bellatrix is coming for Dimensions.

When my nephews visiting the other week and we got out the Nexo knights sets, the main thing they wanted to play with were the vehicles. For me, my favourite is the Volcanic Lair, but Lego must know that kids just love vehicles....

Yeah, it says a lot that even the Fortrex is both a base and a vehicle. Which is actually a really neat concept in itself that I'd like to see more of - think Mortal Engines, Howl's Moving Castle...

The second half of the year will probably bring a large base of some sort as that is when the $90-130 sets are most often released.

i'm sad they didnt include anything for lego dimensions. chima and ninjago are well represented and it seems like a missed opportunity!

Meh... it's going to be a burpy turd.  There's nothing even the equivalent of the library which provides an easy MOC for basic walls / watch tower.

Pretty sure there will be something in the way of Nexo Knight Dimensions packs, think they have just staggered the year two stuff so it's not all added at once

Keep in mind that, when Dimensions started, Nexo Knights didn't even exist (outside TLG). At that time of launch too, odds are the Second Year of Dimensions were in the middle of the design stage.
Best guess is that they didn't want to make Dimensions sets based off a theme they didn't know would be successful.
I have my hopes up for Year Three though.

There's another factor to consider as well, which is that Ninjago and Chima were among the themes that already had video games from Tt Games. Sure, they were handheld-exclusives, but that still gave Tt Games and Warner Bros. both user feedback on those themes and relevant digital assets (like music and aspects of the level design) to draw from. I have a feeling that greatly reduced the anount of new development work that had to go into their character gameplay, adventure worlds, and game levels compared to an entirely new theme that never had its own video game.

What I like the most about season 3 in general is the new types of baddies and the possibilities for new story lines it opens for both the animated series and Merlok 2.0 app. The animated series - and consequently the whole Nexo-world- has been too battle-focussed for the missus and me.

Mixed bag as far as Lego Wave 3 goes. I particularly like 70351; I hope the wing swoop function I suspect it to have after studying the technic joints and mid-hull clearance is indeed present.

Not really a fan of the battle suits. I guess that's all TLG could do with a max brick count to fit the current Ultimate's price point but they just look off. I fear the lack of elbow/knee joints will limit play use as well.

That said, this household owns at least one of each of the previous waves' Nexo sets so I expect most if not all of these will bought when the enevitable discounts start popping up.

I do wonder how successful Nexo knight were commercially. A lot of sets have been heavily discounted of late; I bought most larger sets at 40 to 50% off.

Overall a great theme though. Excellent play opportunity to play together with my boys.

It's interesting how elemental the baddie designs have been - in 2016 we had the lava/magma/fire look (maybe they were hoping for the appeal of that to bleed over to the City Volcano sets, and vice versa), now we've got stuff that looks like it's about rock (what with the giant chunky wheels and the drills) but has names and trans pieces that are meant to evoke lightning. Makes me wonder what else they could do if the theme ends up getting a third year!

I remember when the Nexo Knights tie-in books came out, someone (@Aanchir?) pointed out that they had various plant-based creatures - I wonder if we'll ever see that in the toy line...

Given the length of the "feet", I'd say it's more of a lack of ankle joints than knee joints. In that respect it's not much different from the existing Nexo Knights brick-built figures, Sparkks and Burnzie — and in fact, one of the things that I find particularly exciting about these sets is that the knights can now go toe-to-toe with those bigger baddies!

Eh, they already go toe to toe with them.  Now they look ridiculous.

Seems the official pics of the boxes' back are out there as well. I somehow missed those. The rumours these battle suits can be combined with other sets are true.

The back section of 70351 I incorrectly assumed was a lever can be combined with 70362, adding a rapid-fire stud shooter to the battle suit:

    Back of 70351 - detail

Mr Richmond's already ridiculous Twin Joust drag racer can be combined with the suit to create an over the top mech on two-wheel inline skates:

Back of 70348 - detail. But who's operationg that suit? Those eyes look so familiar...

The epiphany came when I saw the back of 70348. A bot could operate these contraptions as well, and it allows a bot to go toe-to-toe with Burnzie or Sparkks. Well, in my world anyway - who am I to tell anyone how to play.

BTW, 70351 has swing wings indeed. Day one buy probably.

pretty much the same opinion as the original poster.
colours are interesting and some pieces are nice.
I expected it might be like 1st wave which looked bad in leaks but good in official pictures but not really.
kind of makes me think of chima which got weaker each year, but maybe next wave is better.

So they changed the MoMoMo to 'Jestro's Headquarters'? That went from fun/clever to boring/lame really fast.

Maybe different names in different countries, or don't they do that anymore?

Names still vary between different languages, even if they're (usually) standardized between countries that speak the same language. The "MoMoMo" title was from a leaked German catalog I believe.

Well, one could always get structure sets from the Elves line.  Some of the Goblin stuff is quite awesome, and would be most excellent to battle over.  We just need to MOC some villagers...
