Lego's pricing structure is just playing the game we all play.   At any given time, trying to get the most from those  willing to pay it, while still trying to appeal to a general public...ie: all the 20% off sales....

We all price match B&M stores with online retailers, why not have higher day one pricing in stores or raise the price for the more popular items.  Kinda makes you wonder now, is day one the best price or will it go up?   or maybe down?   Ahhh, the game of business!! :)

Just curious if anyone knows if this set will be available for a couple years, or if it is a 1 year exclusive set. The 5 year mini-modular sets were released during my "dark ages" so don't remember how long those were available for an extended period or not.

There's no guarantees with anything, but it's likely that it'll be around for at least 2 or 3 years. Probably more if it proves to be a consistently good seller.

LEGO decided last week that all pricing in the UK will go up approximately 5% across the board effective January 1st.

There was a letter from Lego to, I'm guessing, UK retailers notifying them of price changes due to the BP's loss in value.

    This is it: http://imgur.com/dwwNaKz
@spicypig posted it in this thread: http://bricksetforum.com/discussion/23988/any-thoughts-on-brexits-impact-on-lego-sales#latest

#10255 Assembly Square seems to have disappeared from [email protected] What's the betting that it reappears nearer the release date with a higher price tag?

It was £169.99, then increased to £179.99... £189.99 next?

It's disappeared from other European [email protected] sites like the German one as well — would they really do that just to change the price in one country? Maybe they would, but it seems weird to me.

Really, the whole "coming soon" category on [email protected] has been having some weird inconsistencies lately. For a while there were over 150 sets "coming soon" on all the European versions of the site but just one (Assembly Square) on the North American versions. Now only six sets are showing as "coming soon" on European versions of the site.

What about a Lego store modular?
  • catwranglercatwrangler Member Posts: 1,894
So... 12.45 pence added to the cost of a CMF, in theory. In practice, £2.62 (assuming they'd round up to 13p) is just a really weird price point, and I could picture them going up to £2.99, particularly given the appeal of the Batman Movie series. :/

Thanks! Looks like you're right, no green colour yet. Though after checking my collection I seem to have lots of the Trans-blue one.
    Or tiger claws in #70222-1

Also in blue for the Sonic Dimensions Pack.

^That's interesting... So it's going back to the original price of £169.99 in the UK?

    Curiouser and curiouser...

Wish TLG would announce a price reduction for Australia, $399.99 is going to hurt a bit considering there are still several other big ticket sets we still have to get & if the prices for the 2016 SDCC Marvel exclusives were any indication, the 2017 prices won't be fun.
  • kiki180703kiki180703 Member Posts: 1,063
It seems that they also messed up on the Canadian [email protected] website. It says $339.99 instead of $329.99.

@kiki180703 Or was the Lego Twitter user wrong. $340 is a bit much, even though there are twice as many pieces, it's still 1.5 modular buildings.

Side note, the 1.5 building thing has really been confusing me, how would one fit it into their city without creating a half modular building to fill the gap.
  • gmonkey76gmonkey76 Member Posts: 1,828
^We just have to wait 10 more years for the 20th anniversary modular to get the next 1.5 building. That or another one like the pet shop.

    of note:
Set   Price  Pieces  Price per piece
    PS  $150    2032    .073
    PR  $160    2469    .064
    TH  $200   2766    .072
    AS  $280    4002    .069

Lego is keeping the price pretty steady at seven cents a piece on Modulars.

Is it not a little odd that Assembly Square still has not reappeared on the [email protected] site, when its release is only a week and a bit away?

Does anyone know what's going on?
  • stluxstlux Member Posts: 2,450
We just have to wait until we strike lucky over the next 2 weeks and one of the different interns they rotate on a daily basis to run the website is
    1. actually aware of the imminent release of Assembly Square
    2. has the technical knowledge to add the set to the site
    3. feels like doing so
Yes, I'm less than impressed with TLG's website. Can you tell? ;)

Will there be any related freebies this year - like the #40140 Flower Cart with #10246 the Detective's Office?

Really looking forward to this set, and will pick up two copies.
    It's just so scrumptious!

This site's attitude towards "spoilers" confuses me sometimes. Some of the other LEGO sites I use, like Eurobricks and BZPower, have actual spoiler tags as an option for posts, and/or clear-cut spoiler policies. These are generally for actual story spoilers like what happened in the latest Star Wars movie or a Ninjago episode that still has yet to air in some places.

Brickset forums, as far as I've been able to tell, have no spoiler tags and no spoiler policy, and yet I see way more concern about preserving surprises that aren't connected with any type of story or narrative.

I think that's the internet in general, though - in the last few years I've had the impression that people consider almost anything a spoiler, including casting (now, if it was Sean Bean, I could see how that would constitute a plot spoiler ;)), just the fact a character appears in a film, etc.
  • AdeelZubairAdeelZubair Member Posts: 2,704
I find the building process to be a spoiler however it's also what get's me excited to purchase the product. Therefore I have a quick peek and just scroll down.

Popular internet myth, Sean Bean has only died in approximately 34% of the films/tv shows he's been in, John Hurt has a high percentage & more character roles that died. So not as much as a spoiler as you'd think.

Anyone know when the Brickset review will be published?
  • josekaleljosekalel Member Posts: 683
Can I get an explanation as to what would be considered a LEGO set spoiler??

Don't get me wrong, I am frustrated at the fact that so many websites and users in Twitter and Instagram have been posting spoilers and even footage of Rogue One, but still...

On the other hand, I hope there is a freebie with this one, since I'm planning on getting it when it's released.

I saw some place say the balance of 2017 sets will will be available in the US on 12/26...while most places say 1/1/17. Does anyone have a confirmation of what date?

The US version of shop.LEGO.com seems to list their "coming soon" sets (including Assembly Square) as January 1st releases. It's possible they may become available in LEGO stores before they become available online. If so that could explain the discrepancy in what you've heard.

Oh, alright, cool! I didn't realize that. I was about to ask if there was a way to use them without switching into HTML view, but then I found it myself.

Thanks for pointing this out. It will make it much easier to discuss things like new movies and TV episodes without worrying so much about what other people have or haven't seen.

@Adzbadboy - I am hoping to publish the review tomorrow afternoon. It was planned for yesterday but a university matter has come up so that has been my focus over the last couple of days.

@sklamb - Thanks. I was asked to adapt a Classics essay for publication in a journal but given relatively short notice, hence everything else has been put on hold for a few days.

Anyway, I will soon be back to reviews, including one on Assembly Square.

When I look at this set, I still feel like the proportions of the buildings are kind of awkward. Perhaps seeing it in the flesh will change my mind.

I still need to get the Brick Bank from last year.

I was about to make a post saying that the layout of the buildings was a bit awkward, but @SithLord196 beat me to it...

I am still trying to figure out whether or not I should use the 16x32 for the cafe/music store/dance studio only, or building it on a 32x32 by itself (long side to the back) so that the 'plaza' is a lot larger. What do you guys think?
