    Must haves for me . . .

    Parrot
    Sax
    All red guitar
    Baby
    White Nexo shield
    All white chicken
    Silver ice cream
    Chihuahua
Printed food tiles (Homer's doughnut is  back)
And, hoping the 2x2s with pics on are printed.

I like it, might be my first ever Lego store purchase.

I waited for the release of this set before bricklinking and colour changing the Café Corner and I'm glad I did! I think this Café Corner building looks even more interesting the the first one and I'm loving this set as a whole. It brings so much more to the modular street lay-out and I'm loving all the little references to the other modulars.
As some others have stated, I really like the change to the multiple buildings in one modular, like DO and BB. It makes a street layout look less blank and less boring!

The only thing I'm afraid of is the price. Here in Belgium, the prices of the last Modulars are always higher than in other countries that have Euros.
Now I think I'm going to have to pass on the Disney Castle (for now...)

@AllBrick if you can't wait, a sax and plain red guitar can be found in this year's advent calendar.

Oh bugger, that's a trumpet not a sax.

That'll do too, more instruments please.

Also a plain red guitar with dimensions BTTF Marty. I can wait though, I have no choice.

Anyone notice that Jamie seems more rushed with this video than any of the previous ones, like he's rushing to go to the bathroom or something?
I noticed that as well.  It was as if he was trying to squeeze a lot of information into a specified time length.  I found it distracting, and actually slowed the video to half-speed on youtube to watch it.

End of the modular line rumors seem pretty foolish. They are still quite popular, not beholden to any license, and make an excellent halo product for the creator line and brand as a whole. Also, what would they gain from discontinuing them? I think someone on EB or wherever probably posted 'hey what if this is the last one?' and now there is a rumor.
Agreed. From past history, Lego only makes anniversary sets for continuing lines. 10179 comes to mind for Star Wars 30th and there is rumor that there will be one for the 40th. We did not get an anniversary train that many of us were hoping for.

Personally, I won't mind if the current Modular Buildings, as we know it, end.

The buildings are all very varied, but ultimately, their (mostly) 32x32 layout, triple-floor and shop-front format give them some sort of uniformity.
True but the new Ideas set, Old Fishing Store will be a break from this.  (Except it's still a 32x32 base plate).  Hopefully it will prompt Lego to explore different layout designs. I'd like to see a 50's style gas station that has a large base but only 1 story. Also, the Ideas set may very well be the second modular of the year that was discussed.

Aanchir: Agreed! I didn't make my point very well and perhaps it wasn't a good point to begin with. You and I and many of the Brickset crowd WILL buy multiple copies, explore modifications on LDD, place a bunch of Bricklink orders and make the Townsquare into our own unique creations. My point was the average Lego buyer will not do this. With the Pet Shop, you could buy 2 or 3 sets and easily modify the building by stacking the levels up for a taller building or mirror image one and set it by the other for a nice rowhouse street. Is this "creativity"? It is to some, especially to younger builders. With the last three Modulars, you cannot not make EASY changes to the overall design.  I liked the GE/CC/PS in that you could buy multiple sets and just keep stacking them up as tall as you wanted.
Well, in terms of the sets that have been released you actually CAN still duplicate the middle floor of every modular so far—just because the overall appearances of some of the more recent ones are less uniform than some of the older modulars doesn't change that. I can't tell for sure whether that's also the case with this set, but it would not surprise me one bit.

What really appeals to me about this release is the fact that it really reminds me of a bustling city - I think this is as close to the complete package when it comes to that to date - all of the other mods in their own way add a bit of spice here and there, plus, you can always add to a layout but this really seems to be all encompassing.

I like it, but....it seems like the recent large sets (Disney Castle, Ghostbusters, this one) have gotten larger and substantially more expensive. I liked the $150 modulars, but close to $300 seems a bit steep.

I'll add my agreement with those that love the new part selection.  Particularly cause it helps solve an issue I've had in some of my builds as I explain here.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NXwl2QVXcA

Perhaps the success of the upcoming Ideas Fishing Shack is a test for a non-modular, AFOL-geared series of free standing structures.

Either way, I never put any weight in any rumor.

If that was to replace the modulars, the timing's a bit off. If there is to be a 2018 modular, work would have started a few months ago.

While we wait another year for the possibility of a police station, I'm very much in favor of the multiple businesses in one set approach. So maybe a Police Precinct/Lepin Store in 2018, with the SWAT team at the ready to raid the store?

Your solution is illegal, according to Jamie: http://bramlambrecht.com/tmp/jamieberard-brickstress-bf06.pdf

^ beyond that, I've always just solved that same problem by using a brick with a stud on one side only, and just alternating which direction the stud faces out by layer.  of course, this doesn't help with short walls, and the new piece will certainly be much more flexible

This just in: i heard the niece of the assistant manager of the Cinnabon next to the Lego store in the mall overheard that they are replacing modular buildings and fairground sets with minidoll znaps hybrids. Panic!
...is it bad that I'd actually buy those? :P

I can see the criticisms that the set is highly detailed but shrunk and has too much going on.

To me though this looks like an interesting street scene and I could see it appealing to people to get an instant modular "hit" without having to agonise over which of the available modulars to build a street with, or which of the retired ones to struggle to buy from the aftermarket.

This looks like it could be the gateway modular to lead to full-blown modular addiction.

i dont know who said it now as i just read over 40 post's.
but i find that Pet shop is a good set for anyone who is starting out in MOC-ing with an official lego set for the 1st time.
it's easy to MOC and let them get a feel for how to go about changing a official build in to a MOC of there own.

and that is what the Modulars started out as. all you have to do is look at the Instructions for the CC on the last page's to see that buying more then 1 of each Modular was expected.

that is why i hope to see pet shop to be sold for a good number of years to come.
it should be renamed to "Modulars Starter Set: the Pet Shop."

Personally I think the multiple-buildings setup is brilliant and I'm glad they've kept going with that. Rectangular buildings of uniform width tend to make for a fairly boring, repetitive layout once you have a certain number of them. By contrast, the latest few sets that split one base between buildings of varying sizes result in a much more varied and organic town layout.
Here's another way to look at it: why have the buildings artifically linked together just to meet the 32x32 format?

When I first saw DO, i was sure it could be detached like Pet Shop.

For BB, the laundry shop seems like a forced add-on just to avoid a full corner bank. I'll prefer the bank to be a full building and the laundry shop a standalone half-Modular.

No guessing what my mods will be. :-D

As I slowly get fed up of more and more Star Wars rehashes I am starting to feel like these will replace that hole. It looks great especially when view from the front and I like the fact that it is all set at different depths, a Victorian house modular would also do this (hint hint lego).

Now to go back and pick up the ones I missed. They wont be too expensive...

    Indeed!
You can either alternate the single-stud snots facing the two sides (as done on the Tardis in Dr Who) or use corner panels to accommodate the extra studs (as done in the Firehouse Headquaters).

See now, there's a real Lego builder.  Doesn't just opinionate (yes, I made that word up) about Illegal building, but instead presents a good alternative.

Yes - this sums up my thoughts exactly. I really don't have the space required to support a large layout and I'm not sure I would want one even if I did. This set alone gives you a nice head start towards building a busy street. Pairing it with the DO and the BB would make for a great display even if you never added any more buildings to it.

I need many many more shelves to accommodate my currently unbuilt sets.

I will be purchasing this. Sure, I wish the price was a little cheaper, but that's a lot of new parts. Compared to say, #10240 the price on this is just fine. I do worry about how others may perceive it though. It essentially looks like 3 half buildings, which would price it closer to $225 than $280 just by glancing at it. I do think all the details and new parts justify the higher price, but will others feel the same?

And seems that the UK price of £169.99 is sticking on this... A trip to a the new London Lego store may be in order for Europe and US shoppers..

But the UK response, as everywhere else, is "expensive but bearable". It's only cheap from an international perspective because of changing exchange rates. If they push the price, they're likely to lose sales.
