Did anyone else see this:

Apologies to the rest of the world, as it seems this is North America only.

Very interesting!  When the promo was out for May the Fourth, the stores were under strict orders to send any extras back to corporate immediately.  So now we know that out of the original 3500(?) made, 120 got shipped back to corporate.

I like how the value is $40 at best it would be a $20 set if it was for sale regularly.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
They really need to stick an exclusive sticker on the box too, to differentiate it from the poor man's version that was initially given out. "Limited edition prize winner 1/120" looks so much more valuable ...

Wow, can't imagine this motivates anyone to spend $500 over an email. I mean if it was $50 or $100 l'd think "hmm, there were some sets l wanted but was putting off, maybe I'll stop in" but l'm not too anxious to grab the new Death Star
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I can, if someone was considering buying it anyway. This is an incentive to buy now rather than wait. I don't think it is an incentive to buy if you weren't thinking of buying the DS. The number of people that will respond to it is probably quite low, so you are in with a good chance of getting something you can probably get $100 or more for, so you are in with a chance at a substantial discount.

That is, of course, only if you don't read the whole thing.

If you read it and realise anyone can enter the sweepstake without buying it anyway, then it negates the good chance of winning you will be getting by buying it, as many people will be entering without buying it.

It barely got me out the door to spend $150, but I did it! There are going to be people buying the new Death Star regardless, but I'm guessing it will be like Assault on Hoth and not sell out on day one, so the contest turn out will still be good.

But the DS now and get entered to win 1 of 120 Space Slugs.

But miss out on Double Points and the exclusive calendar.

People can enter by email as well.... I'm guessing more folks will be doing that then buying a 500 USD set for a chance at 20-40 dollars in parts.

Very excited for the free Darth Revan as I missed him the first time around. Can't wait for Force Friday!!!
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,539
I guess the Darth Revan poly will take a hit in aftermarket price but will probably still hang around $20. That and 2x points will be enough to get me to bite since free shipping is only $35 now.
  • bobabricksbobabricks Member Posts: 1,842
@Bumblepants I predict only a temporary hit on the Revan market as the poly will only be available for one day (a week day at that). Might be worth hanging onto unless LEGO rereleases him again which is hard to say. I'm sure they just found another crate of these guys laying around or something.

I'll be buying the AT-ST so I'll probably quick flip him before the market drops to try to recoup most of the costs for the set, or hang on to the poly...

I seem to have missed the info about a Darth Revan promo.  Since I would love to have one, can someone please tell me where to find it?
  • LegogramLegogram Member Posts: 321

Okay, that said, I finally found it.

I am interested in Escape the Slug set but I won't be buying the Death Star to own a chance to get it. I already have one Darth Revan but another won't hurt (this may set a precedent where previous Lego offers return making me hopeful that Martian Manhunter returns).

I don't understand this requirement for the Canadians to receive the set:
"required to answer a time limited skill testing question without assistance".

Something to do with lottery/sweepstakes laws, at a guess?

Along the lines of " which Falcon escaped the space slug?"

canada bans giving away things for free. So they ask a simple math question like 'what is 2+2?' in order to label it as a skill based prize instead of a giveaway

Info on the Darth Revan giveaway is on main page, but just in case anyone is looking:
September 30th, he is available with any SW purchase for one day only, apparently online and in store.

Wonder how much people will put the set on EBay.

If I won it I would keep it. I think at this point the price has dropped enough that I doubt more on the market in these contests would cause it to rise. It is not like a Bat pod for example, it is a small set that could easily bricklink-ed with minimal cost.

    "Canada (excluding Quebec),"

I don't know why I laugh every time I see that.

That's what you get for trying to disband from out country all the time I guess
That has nothing to do with the independence debate, but rather with the specific laws that the province has about contests (similar to the obligation of the skills question in Canada as a whole).

I'm guilty of selling my Batpod that I won(I couldn't pass up the money), but I'm with @madforLEGO in that I would keep this one, because I am more of a SWOT collector anyways, and this would be a perfect centerpiece.  Plus, $200 in value is a lot less than $2000.
  • snowhitiesnowhitie Member Posts: 3,078
How do you enter by email? I know that was possible with the bat-pod but only found out after I'd bought keychains etc (and didn't win...)
  • BillyBricks84BillyBricks84 Member Posts: 355
    @snowhitie

"Alternatively, to enter without making a purchase:

    1) Send us an email at the address below, with the following information:

    • Write “LEGO Star Wars™ Escape the Space Slug™ Sweepstakes” in the subject line
    • First and Last Name
    • Email Address
    • VIP Card Number

    2) Send the email to [email protected]"

I did this this morning. I figured I may as well give it a shot.

The contest is only open to US/CA, however.

  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,761
Remember, you only enter once as well (via email once or buying the set), do not enter more than once as those extra entries will be removed if I recall the fine print.
  • MattsWhatMattsWhat Member Posts: 1,643
So in the UK, we can't enter by email and don't get the Darth Revan promo?  Psh.

(Apparently the UK promo is 5 (!) first order troopers with a £60 purchase.  @princedraven should be getting excited then)

It isn't really a centrepiece, it is really small at 8x16 studs. And it doesn't look very good from a distance. You have to look at it quite closely to see what the grey blob in tan block is.

It would probably look good as a centrepiece for a collection of microbuild ships from the advent calendars.
