I'd buy multiple of the Brick Bank too, to make that more impressive.
I also have in my to buy list a 2014 Lego Star Destroyer to MOC into an Acclamator Cruiser (http://bricksetforum.com/discussion/24593/moc-project-ii-set-conversion-isd-acc#latest) but the prices on the Internet are $$$$.
I know what you mean there - i'll be up to about £450 by the time i'm done with my Wayne Manor/Batcave.
Given my leisure there are a few parts I'd tweak, but I wanted to make it from just the pieces of that set.
The orange glowy bits make it invisible to Aquaman's aquatic telepathy, just in case he ever goes bad.
This was exactly two of the same set bought on sale from Target only thing extra was the baseplate and a few small pieces here and there and I still had a bunch of pieces left over.
I have a few others I've finished (you can kinda see two n the background of the first image) and a few more I am working on, will share soon as I get back home and take some pic if people are interested.
I use the original instructions as inspiration because I'm not good enough to just go on my own, then once I get far enough I deviate to my own building.
#76039 - Ant-Man Final Battle (Yellowjacket's Mechanical Harness)
#5004590 - Bat-Pod (Black Rims)
#76050 - Crossbones' Hazard Heist (Falcon's Redwing)
Excuse the lack of photos, waiting for my phone to charge!

70900-1: The Joker Balloon Escape (that tank looks great for a factory MOC).
And I don't think you can say you are not good enough. You are clearly. But if you feel you need a head start have you tried choosing a real life object, getting detailed photos or blueprints of it, then trying to turn that into a build? You could always start small...move to something bigger as your skills expand...
I'm sort of passing on good advice I've received in the last month or so. Start with Modding, then go to that stage...
I'm not really good at doing things from scratch but I'm working on a diner modular using multiple #41035 and #3061 that I keep picking up cheap on eBay ha, also I did mod 3 sets of #31050 that I got on sale into a small modular.

Edit: now I see you're in Australia, so I have no idea if you have Target stores or not. Ah well.
Modified #75877 into it's road counterpart:
Modded the '69 Camaro into stock:
Modded both cars from #60138. The police car moreso.
If you're wondering what that black thing sticking out next to the driver of the police car is, it's a CombatBrick M16.
