Lego b&m store no promos when you redeem VIP points

kwkwkwkw Member Posts: 1,209
Story time. So I just went to my local Lego store to pick up the London bus promo and use some VIP points that are about to expire but when I went to checkout with my $80 of superhero sets the store employees said that due to a new policy if you redeem your VIP points towards a purchase you won't get the promotional item if the subtotal after VIP points redemption falls below the promo price threshold, in this case the London bus at $75. So I said no thank you and left since I can get the sets discounted at other retailers later on. The promo was my only incentive to buy something at full price from the Lego store. Furthermore, It looks like the online Lego shop at home doesn't work this way and you can still redeem VIP points and get the promo. Has this happened to anyone else? Guess I'm just gonna be shopping online from now on...And Yes I know first world problems.

Expire?! I did not know that VIP points expire :-(

Where can I get the expiration date? I cannot find it on their site. Or do you get a notification when they are about to expire?

Hooe that's a store policy and not a LEGO policy. If it's LEGO policy there going to get a lot of phone calls to customer service.

Also if you redeem points in store, your total sales tax collected is reduced.  If you order on LEGO.com and redeem points your total tax remains the same.  The LEGO store employee said that in store they are reducing the price of the item and online they treat points as cash.

I know that my local store doesn't enforce any of the rules really, they are pretty chill on the rules/policies. Then again, they also won this sucker last year. ;)

That might be state law, I never paid taxes on redeemed VIP points online or in store.

Are you sure about that? I only get charged sales tax on the amount after the VIP Points are taken off.

They don't seem very proud of it. Is that stuck in a back office somewhere or on display?

@paul_merton I would assume go around the other sides like other trophies, only two more lucky stores are able to get on the front!

@CCC Unfortunately it is in the back, I was able to see it during that VIP special opening when Insult on Hoth came out. The Vancouver store is super small, actually one of the smallest in the world, so the employees had a hard time displaying it where it would look good and where kids couldn't get their hands on it. Any display space that is in that store is obviously taken up by new set displays.
