I'm pretty sure this was mine, it's the one I remember the best and the one I rebuilt first when I came out of my dark ages. There were other classic space sets but I'm going to plant my flag and claim its this one!

I had a few other sets years prior to this, but this - #894, is the first one I remember distinctly. The concept of the opening sides revealing the little computer lab in the back was awesome.

I reveal my first LEGO set at the beginning of an interview that was just posted on the CUUSOO blog.

For my 4th birthday http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=263-1. I still have it. I had to wait until I was 39 to get the bathroom set though. I still have most of my Homemaker series.

The first substantial set I remember having was the original HP Hogwarts Castle. I came home from school one day to find this huge box of Lego waiting for me. It cost just £15 and was actually complete with extras.

Man, I wish bargains like that existed today!

Apart from that, I had lots of Bionicle and Designer Sets before that, but that's my most distinct one that I remember.

I can't remember if my first set was Fort Legorado or a 9-volt train. I didn't have any Lego when I was a kid and bought these as an adult. I was always jealous that my cousin received a Lego set for Christmas one year and I couldn't play with it. I sold the train and Fort Legorado somehow ended cast to the four winds. I've been off and on with Lego since then and have now decided not to collect anything other than Lego from now on. I did buy that train again and maybe one day I'll buy Fort Legorado again. I do still have some of the minifigs.
