2016 Monthly Building Contest - July: LEGO NOIR

catwranglercatwrangler Member Posts: 1,894
edited July 2016 in Building and Techniques

This month's theme is LEGO NOIR: show us your Lego take on the dark genres of crime, mystery and thriller! Whether you're telling a story in a vignette with minifigs, or just exploring the noir aesthetic of dark alleys and dramatic visual contrasts with a more abstract model, the floor is yours. Gangsters, femmes fatales, shadowy figures and private eyes are all welcome, and I encourage you to interpret the theme broadly and imaginatively; cyberpunk/noir mashups and neo noir are also well within the expansive boundaries of this month's contest...

The Rules:

- your model must be built for the contest, not an existing MOC

- two photographs per entry only - it helps the thread load better/at all!

- you can enter as many different models as you like so long as you make a separate post for each

- the contest closes at midnight, UK time, on 31 July

The Prize:

It's a Mixelstery! ;)

Let me know if there's any questions or concerns!

(If you'd like to volunteer to run a future monthly building contest or see what other themes are coming up, we've got a thread for that too!)

Seriously - I've been sitting here wondering what to throw together as an example build to bump the post!

Me too. I have a half-dozen LDD projects that have been languishing for six months or more.

^ More importantly, have you conjured up the stolen data tapes?

Perhaps it's your sad devotion to that ancient religion.  You may want to work on your sorcerer's ways.

The choice of using a minidoll in that build was inspired! Nice stuff @rdflego

I had this whole plan where I was going to pop in every few days with a new build to keep the thread bumped, but this past month has turned out to be very taxing personally and I've only just begun to be able to keep up with the forum properly again - MOCing kind of went to the wall. I do promise you guys, though, I have one noir-ish bird in the hand... ;)

not really, except there aren't a lot of female minifigs, and even less of them look afraid (but it's daphne head) just thought the clothes looked good for a child.

and chen head because he looks like a psycho. even though psychos tend to look normal, but well, that wouldn't be funny

*This is not a new build, please do not consider this an entry. I posted this to boost the thread only.

They're too small a resolution/size. Have you got any bigger?

"Oh Johnny, do you think we'll ever meet again?"
"I hope so Evie. But after today, it's clear this town's not big enough for me and the mafia. That's something I've got to correct, and the innocent need justice"

I'm almost the only one who didn't bother editing my pictures?
my yet to be built orthanc tower seemed like the perfect parts pack for it, at least I had no trouble finding the right colors :)

@fauch I didn't edit much - and it was my first time, I really liked the feel of @PeteM's picture so tried to get mine a bit creepier as well. I first tried taking a picture with not much light but obviously then you don't get clean lines, taking it in bright light and then darkening it and increasing some contrasts was quite fun. I won't be able to do this for all my pictures though.

@pasat14 welcome to the Forum and great you are already taking part in the monthly build. The reason your pictures were not in the tread might be because you maybe just copy and pasted instead of the 'add' button - that being said, the comment editor does weird things sometimes so it might also have been a fluke.

yeah, I couldn't get good pictures at night either. I don't think we resorted to such tricks in previous monthly contests?
  • catwranglercatwrangler Member Posts: 1,894
Great to see so many entries popping up today! :D Here's a closer look at @pasat14's pics - I always just drag and drop from my desktop to get them to show up as pics rather than attachments:

I am confused, is it an indoor or outdoor scene? first thought it was a street, but then saw what looks like a desk.
