I would normally agree with you on the compounding discount price for 30+10, but the signs word for word said "Members save 40%".  This was vs. their normal wordage, which says "30% off, members get an additional 10%".  It actually struck me as odd, because some of the units had the old 30% off/additional 10% stickers and some had a new sticker that said 30% off and then below it said members got 40%.  Having said that, I did check my receipt and sure enough it was the lower, compound interest (30 off then an additional 10) vs a straight 40.  So that is straight up false signage.  Included is the picture of the new tag:

The 20% member discount a couple weeks ago DID work on LEGO.

Ohhhhh. I stand corrected. I hope this becomes the new normal. I just looked at an old sticker and it says “Members save an extra 10%”. I wonder if they got tired of people complaining.

^ It did a couple weeks ago when I used it.
Okay. But that was a coupon right?

This is a flat out promotion for the weekend for BN members.

We’re not disagreeing. It was a 20% member discount; no coupon.

Where did you get the image above? Was it mailed to you, or online?

BN has double membership discount this weekend.
    Instead of 10%...it's 20%.

Not sure if this applies to Lego though.
There is also an online 20% discount code GIFTED, but LEGO is one of the exclusions.

Boy, B&N are making it complicated this season.

    20% works:

#41232 Super Hero High School $31.98
#21312 NASA Women in Space $19.96
all the 50% off stuff I found

    Doesn’t work on:

    #70917 Ultimate Batmobile - just the 30% + 10%

I just asked a B&N associate, and she says they must have used the stickers for hardcover books by mistake.
  • ThoughtsonblocksThoughtsonblocks Member Posts: 178
Odd that they would run some items that scale 30% straight to 40% for members and other items that run the 10% after 30%, just seems over complicated.  I wish i had taken a picture of the sign, might still be there when i run in tommorow.  Did you see any Lego sets at your store with the 30/40 signs?  Or just the previous 30 +10?  Pretty decent deals either way, just frustrating to see coming from an extensive retail background.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,481
I only saw the 30+10 stickers on LEGO. I’m inclined to believe the associate, but if I recall correctly, the 40% off hardcover books is the normal member discount. So those 30/40 stickers may just mean “30% off for non-members and 40% off for members”.

    The saga continues...
Today I got them to refund me the difference between the 10% member discount I used a week ago and the 20% member discount this weekend. So, I got the following prices:
    #75182 Republic Fighter Tank $13.97
    #75176 Resistance Transport Pod $16.77
    #75185 Tracker I $39.17

    Also picked up
#75132 First Order Battle Pack $7.25 (30% off clearance)
    #60149 4x4 with Catamaran $7.98 (50% off clearance)
    #60151 Dragster Transporter $11.98 (50% off clearance)
and my second #21312 Women of NASA $19.96

OK. Now I gotta stay away until at least after Christmas!

Took a a chance and got my 20% member discount on top of a tblm set that was on sale for 30% off. Also bought a Venice Architecture set at 20% off. Thank you all for sharing the info.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,481
    Oops, I forgot one :)
I also got #75179 Kyle Ren’s TIE Fighter at 30% off with 20% member discount for $44.77.

I tried to use the double discount on #75188 Resistance Bomber, but the manager made it clear that the extra 20% only worked on certain items. I guess the exception was only for large items, because #75176 Resistance Transport Pod did nautrally take of 30% plus an extra 20%, ending up only being around $17.

Ninjago City is $60 off with code FRESHSTART. That's 20% off. With tax it was $254.39 for me shipped.

  • FizyxFizyx Member Posts: 1,359
Dang, I would have jumped on that one if I had seen this earlier. Would have been perfect timing, since I think I'm going to try and get the city before the official announcement of the docks, which I'm a little worried might start up a bit of a city buying frenzy.
  • elspankdogelspankdog Member Posts: 403

Ninjago City back in stock but coupon no longer applies.  I guess they caught their "mistake" and zeroed the inventory until they could update the website.

$2 for the cargo plane? Wow, I’ve never seen that huge of a discount at B&N.
  • mmac2002mmac2002 Member Posts: 18
Yeah. When I saw them on the $2 table, I thought they were misplaced. Was super excited when I got up to the cashier and they rang up for that.
  • CaptainRogersCaptainRogers Member Posts: 866
@mmac2002 That's ridiculously good. I'm tempted to swing by some St. Louis stores.

Personally, the ONLY reason I'll shop at B&N now is if they have a massive discount.  After hearing about what they did to their workforce (They fired basically all of their full-time/more than minimum wage workers in 781 stores, and are filling those positions with minimum wage replacements) I just don't feel like I can support the chain anymore.  Already canceled my membership, and I'll probably miss out on some good deals in-store because I'm not going to be browsing there any more.  Oh well.  They weren't the best bookstore, but they were the best large chain bookstore by a whole lot, and they provided some great competition to Amazon's Kindle line with the Nook.  Too bad the good times appear to be over :(

Do those 'Educator Appreciation Day Sales' at B& N apply to LEGO in-store?  I see today(April 21-22) and again next week they have 25% off.  The fine print only says "select toys & games"....which usually excludes LEGO.

There is a thread on here about this from a few years back. The upshot is it’s a YMMV situation. You might as well try, or just call and ask until you get the answer you want :)
  • 77ncaachamps77ncaachamps Member Posts: 2,442
For sure YMMV as some can override or go around the system.

Ed discount applies to LEGO books I'm sure.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
Just thought I'd give this a mention for those interested....saw today B&N had signs up saying 30% off all Lego The Batman Movie sets.  Plus another 10%(ish) with a membership.  So there's a chance for some who still the Ultimate Batmobile.

I got a piece of snail mail from B&N promoting a “Double Your 10% Discount” for members from May 17 to 20. It says toys are one of the categories that is included. Has anyone else tried this on LEGO?
  • JenniJenni Member Posts: 1,390
It used to work on everything (we bought Mindstorms a few years ago) but I feel like there are now exclusions, the usual suspects. People discussed it on this thread last year.

Stopped in the Ridgedale BN yesterday, the double discount didn’t work on the Ship-in-the-Bottle. Was told by the manager that any expensive or limited sets were excluded from the double discount offer. Ordered the set off of Amazon as the manager was telling me he wasn’t able to make an exception and override.

I believe they are no longer exclusives because both Target and  Walmart are carrying them as well.

A nearby Target employee told me they were getting ready for their toy reset this Sunday after locating a Unikitty set for my son.

B&N had some decent deals this month. Hopefully it continues and I can throw some of my money that was formerly spent at TRU to this bookseller. As a side note-this is where I buy Blocks magazine here in the States. I am not affiliated with the mag-just a fan.
