    Kill them with fire!

I mean, yes. Creepy. Why does the one have flowers growing out of its head? Or is it wearing a flower pot on its head?

You haven't heard of the world loved mascot, "Pot Head"?

And still no re-colours for the ball and socket joints.

Does anybody know the availability of these sets yet? Are they going to only be in Rio like team GB?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
Mascots are rubbish, as are the sets. As above, those ball joints really stand out. Still if anything like 2012 toys in the UK, they will be available very cheaply for locals once the Olympics are over.

I doubt they'd restrict them so much. Maybe Brazil only. Team GB wasn't restricted to London, it was UK and Ireland (NI and Republic).

What's with the amazingly plain backgrounds? Did the box-art designer take a day off?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I think that is the marketing style for these figures. Most non-lego toys and images have similar plain backgrounds.

    Better representative for Rio....

They're really cute, and I love how posable they are! I don't mind the color-locked joints too much tbh. Not sure if recolors would've been realistic for a promo set like this, but they're not a huge blight on the figures' appearances, especially since they're covered in the front and back.

My biggest criticism is that they'd be a lot more posable if the ball cups for their hips and shoulders were on the leg and arm pieces instead of the torso pieces. That's a problem that also bugs me about a lot of Mixels. When built this way the legs and arms can't really bend forward and back much.

If they are Brazil only, what's the chances of them becoming available to the rest of the world? I'm think of whether I should ask my father-in-law, who currently is living in Rio to pick them up for me when they are released.

Olympic mascots seem to have a weird tradition of being awful, so in many ways it's excellent to see the tradition continue.

Although that aside, I remember seeing Wenlock, the 2012 mascot, having a great time in the Olympic stadium at the athletics, quite often having to be restrained by officials which made for some quality viewing!  He was stupid looking but weirdly comical.  Never got a minifig though...

Here's hoping everywhere but Germany get them.  Will give the rest of the world something to bargain with.  ;)

They are a bit weird, the second one reminds me of a watermelon transformer. On the mascot topic, the commonwealth games in Glasgow nailed it. Designed by a local, made a lot of sense and loved by the kids. My eldest said he will never get rid of his Clyde he got when we took him to the shooting, despite it being a bit overcuddled!

I wouldn't mind reading or watching interview with actual mascot designer. Why these guys and how are they representatives of South America?

The way I see, South American countries are the HOME TEAM, and all the countries are the VISITORS The mascot should be something you affiliate with South America (other than Cocaine) to trump up the home team support!

    Hello Google, my old friend...

Just looked it up. Vinicius (the yellow one) represents all the native animals of Brazil, and Tom (the blue one) represents all the native plants.

Still don't get why people think they're awful — to me they seem adorable! If I were a kid attending the Rio Olympics I'd want plushies of both of them!

Nope, just some good ol' improv.

You see it in the wrong way then. Brazil is the home team, other South American countries are visitors. Just as countries from other continents are visitors.

Although the games are specifically the Rio games, not the Brazillian games.

I'm a grumpy, old(ish) man and have never seen a single mascot that doesn't look bloody stupid and look like they've been designed by committee. These are no different.

Don't get me started on corporate / sport branding and logos... Oh dear, oh dear...

The NBA will start copying the Euro teams and feature ads on their jerseys for the 2017-18 season.

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15210151/nba-jerseys-carry-advertisements-beginning-2017-18

What's next? Change jerseys every season like the premier soccer leagues in Euro do?

The cash grab and ripping off of consumers continues...

^ Only if consumers make the choice to buy them.

They would have been a must buy item with the proper coloured ball and socket joints.
Green polo for the flower spike would also be better.
    Now.
    Bleh.....
Only buying them at 25% of the original price.

^now that you mention it...looks like that thing ripped off the ivysaur's shell and is wearing like a hat. Kinda morbid.

Just found an Instagram photo showing the box for the set! Pretty classy-looking. :)

No the box isn't selling them, they are still really poor models.
Maybe if TLG made the ball and socket joints in the right colours? and if these are less than £1 each?

Great.  Where can I get one of these?

I don't like it, but I must possess one.

You might as well get a sealed set as the stickered faces really give the life to these things.
