I sympathize for the soul who had to put all of those stickers on. No one should have to deal with such torture.

However on the flipside the person who did place all of the stickers must have some kind of super power due to the fact of them all being so perfectly aligned.

I want that super power of being a naturally spot on sticker placer.

I'm a little behind on the conversation but need to throw a correction out there on the "Reverse" function for this Lego set. 

To make an apples to apples comparison of the Lego set to a real car, The motor "always" rotates in the same direction. Assuming the motor operates at a given RPM of 2000 rpm (Revolutions per minute), clicking the lego set into first gear and pushing the car forward you would have to push it slower to get the engine to rotate at 2000rpm. Click into second gear and 2000rpm would require the car to be pushed faster. rince/repeat for all forward transmission gears. 

Now click the transmission into reverse, and in order to rotate the engine in it's normal forward direction at 2000rpm, the hand of god would have to push the lego model backwards.

So, I really want to like this, and the packaging looks awesome, but the model design itself has far too many gaps on the bodywork, making it look like an abstract build with heavy artistic license. The front is actually quite ugly in my view. Am I on my own here!?

I think if you feel like this is too gappy, then the Technic theme as a whole just isn't for you. The Porsche has arguably has the most solid and authentic-looking body of any Technic car there's ever been. Technic models are not like Creator Expert models. Traditionally, they're much more about functionality than looks, and while recent models have done a much better job filling out their gaps than classic models like #8880 and #8448, I think a certain amount of abstraction is inherent to the building system.

I will be interested to see if any MOCists from the Technic community can succeed in filling in some of the gaps, especially the ones under the headlights which appear to bother a lot of people from the comments I've read. But "ultimate" or not, it's just not realistic to expect a Technic model to have an entirely solid body.

I am not alone, lol. It just looks like a set that a top quality mocer could improve beyond all recognition. 

Also, I hate the idea that just because you don't like one set, then the entire technic theme isnt for me apparently. There is sometimes a culture here on certain threads where criticising a set really upsets people. Honestly it's just a balanced view. The actual presentation and packaging are beautiful. There is a fair chance I may still buy this, but I'll need to work out if I have the skill to improve the front lights section. I am honestly surprised more people don't think the front is a bit of a mess in its current form.

Nothing about your post upsets me, and nothing about my post was meant to be mean. I just can't see how a Technic sports car could be expected to have considerably fewer gaps when none ever has in the past. Like, maybe you could have filled in SOME of the gaps, but in the absence of hyper-specialized parts like the sort you see in the Mega Bloks Need 4 Speed sets, I think some abstraction is inherent to Technic building. And on a really curvy car like this that makes a certain amount of gappiness inevitable. I don't know anything about you personally, but a lot of the comments I've seen complaining about all the gaps on Facebook had come from people who aren't really familiar with Technic or don't consider it "real LEGO", and expected something more like #10220 or #10242.

I say all this having seen the new Porsche built and even helped build the chassis myself. Maybe some MOCist will surprise me (after all, I am not anywhere close to being a "top quality MOCer", especially with Technic), or maybe one day in the far future Technic will have evolved to a point that the gaps seem like they'd have been easy to fix. But at present it's hard for me to imagine any of the gaps besides the large ones under the headlights being possible to fill much more than they already are.

So to clarify, I don't know anything about you personally and didn't realize you were an experienced Technic builder. A lot of the comments I've seen complaining about all the gaps on Facebook had come from people who aren't really familiar with Technic or don't consider it "real LEGO", and expected something more like #10220 or #10242. In that situation, Technic probably ISN'T for them. So that may have influenced how I read and responded to your comment, and I apologize for misjudging you.

Hey no probs. I have some technics, but I wouldn't say I was an experienced technic builder, although am a reasonably experienced moc builder of standard Lego, and do happen to have a tonne of spare orange from previous mocs, so we shall see. I think I am going to get it whatever, as the presentation is the best I have ever seen, and maybe I am going over board on the front.

Hmmm.... if this were priced like a regular Technic set, I'd be impressed and not mind the gaps. But it's not and I do.

I'm only very new to Technic, having only recently purchased #42039 24 Hours Race Car, which I loved building.
Personally, I think that #42056 looks 100% like a Porsche 911 and, from what I have seen of Technic, I think that the bodywork is incredible.
If I had a spare £250 it would be a definite purchase. Sadly, I'm not going to be able to splurge all that on one set... Gutted. :-(

I was thinking about this model and thread last night, quite sad I know, and it finally hit on me what this model looks like. It's been on the tip of my tongue/mind for ages. It looks like a transformer!

@richo if only it was! I've lamented stupid kreo transformers for a while. I'd love to see Hasbro abandon them and do a deal with LEGO. Same with Mattel and Masters of the Universe.

@pharmjod I know what you mean; I saw a great looking boxed Kreo Transformers set in a charity shop recently and was tempted, but I've so often been unsatisfied with the quality of other brands that I left it alone. Frustrating, though!

It was showing 'coming soon' all morning from midnight onwards at all EU sites, then around 730 it changed to out of stock, ship in 30 days...

Production problems maybe?

Could be they're working out what to do about the instructions error. Seems all the other June releases are now live and available, so just the 911.

Well I was up at 4am and it was still 'coming soon'. Think they know about the instructions problem and don't want to draw attention to it.

I was going to buy one today but it "coming soon" at 1:30BST and by 10:00 (the next chance I got to check) it was "ships in 30 days". No 1st edition with misprints for my collection!

I just wondered if anybody managed to buy one or has the set been pulled for 30 days to fix the errors?

i seen this before, new set's showing as out of stock, and in stock in 30 days.
with in 2 days it was fixed. and being sold.
so let wait and see if this is a mass up with the system ( AGAIN ) or. if this is for real.
you can still go ahead and order one, and it will be sent out as soon as they have it.

Sound like they will have to reprint the instructions to fix the gear changing sequence (it goes 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 4th right now) and maybe redesign the shifting mechanism to make it more reliable.

I will probably just wait until there are some deals on amazon.

Same here.  I was up at 3am and it was Coming Soon.  Then, I checked again around 8am and it was Out of Stock, Shipping in 30 Days.  My guess is that it was never in stock and immediately went from one status to the other.  Oh well, I've ordered my limit of 2.  I ordered them separately, so hopefully they are in separate boxes and get to me without any dents or creases.

Also, I spoke to another LEGO friend a couple weeks ago and LEGO banded him from their website.  He is simply a person that loves LEGO and often orders multiples of sets.  LEGO in their ultimate wisdom took that to mean that he was an obvious reseller, which is totally wrong.  

Just saying, you may think twice before you order more than your limit of items like the 911.  I think they may be watching this set since it may be a limited edition set.

I was all set to drive to my local Lego Store after work and pick this up, but knowing about the error in the instructions has me second guessing myself. I was going to cash in $100 of VIP points to make the price more reasonable too, but that's a pretty big error for something that costs so much money.

Do you think this set will end up on Amazon?  Some sets are only available from LEGO . I'm no expert, but am thinking this set will only be available from LEGO.

I spoke to two employees separately and they both said it will not have a limited run. I stood for about an hour deciding if I should get it or not. In the the end it resulted in me not getting one; I was so close!
