I'm on the fence for this set.  I'd want to motorize it if I got it, but the receiver and battery box stick out like a sore thumb in the recommended build per Jang's video and it really kills it for me.
The colour of the IR receiver really looks awful, doesn't it. This is where going non-purist and using an sbrick would help since you don't need to have the IR receiving poking out. The battery isn't too bad, although again non-purist solutions using a shorter box with the cable coming off the front rather than top would be better, and you could then cover it a little better with black 1x1 round plates for coal.

Do we know when the Holiday promo set(s) will be available?  I think I'd like to wait until one of those is being offered before I place my order.
Do we even know what the promo sets are this year?!

christmas ornament for one? What's the other?

@alexwil I think they are #40222 and #40223 . The first will be available in October from the 1st to the 25th. The second will be available Black Friday weekend (November 25th -27th).

Forgot about those as well, but where does the toy soldier tree ornament fit into all of these promos?

I believe that will be similar to #5002813 from 2014 and #5003083 from last year as a VIP exclusive ornament in a cloth bag.

And of course in the UK we get the London bus in October so all bets are off on Christmas promos here.

i really don't see the receiver as looking too bad, especially in motion, it sticks out a little but isn't disgustingly obvious. The battery box however absolutely needs covering with black studs to disguise it as coal, that to me is the low point of the motorised design
  • sid3windrsid3windr BelgiumMember Posts: 1,405
That looks really nice! Looks like I'll need to start building this thing before Christmas so I can then order (and receive) modding parts from B&P before the festivities are over ;)

WV Train arrived today, but alas, there were no 'freebies', although there was a LEGO minifigure cut-out saying that LEGO had included a treat with the purchase. Weird : (

^ I had the same LEGO cut-out, but they had included the Spiderman jumper as the freebie, as well as the Ninjago mini dragon.

    @Avacadoturban
if the the Ninjago mini dragon. is on your order sheet, and said the Ninjago mini dragon. is missing from the box. phone Lego CS and tell them it's missing.
it part of the order and they have to for fill order. even if it is a freebie.
it on the order sheet and there for you can kick up, about it being missing.
the Spiderman set the rest of us got however is a loss for you.

Just realized the Snow Globe set wasn't released yet, I saw the instructions back in Jan and built a model of it then (with some colour variations). :-)

@reece that is wonderful.  Where did you find the instructions?  If the parts are readily available, that would be a great project for my grandkids.....and of course for me too. :-)

You could, of course, wait for the set to be released in a month or so.

Other than the dome piece at the top which so far didn't come in Trans clear, the rest of the parts are pretty common.

Can check below link for the full parts list.

It's a lovely set, missed the gingerbread house last year but would really like the snow globe. Only challenge is finding something to justify the purchase!

I saw the Winter Train on display this past weekend at the Lego Store.

I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon. I didn't feel it was that impressive. That's just my personal opinion though.

Okay, I'm a little confused by LEGO's November store calendar. Summary:

"November 19-20: VIPs get double points and early access to "Brick" Friday Offers!"

    Great! What can we get?

"Brick Friday: FREE Exclusive Snowglobe with purchase of $99 or more!"

Neat!  Hopefully there is no small, legalese print confusing or negating this offer...

"Offer is valid November 25-28 or while supplies last only.  Limited quantity available. Limit one per customer. See a Brick Specialist for details."

Oh.  Well, I guess that means VIPs don't get early access to all "Brick" Friday offers.  Any Brick Specialists available to clear things up for us standard bricks?

It definetely feels like they're baiting us this year. Maybe it's something amazing, maybe it's worth 3.99. It's probably the snow globe for all we know lol.

I thought this would be a fun Christmas set so I went ahead and bought this saturday. Not gonna be buying anything else until around Black Friday time

Typically just some sale prices are what those "offers" are.

Had a good look at this yesterday and (not counting the re-release toyshop) this will be the first winter village set I don't buy. Even with £10 off and a free london bus its just not good enough - its not about the cost its just a bit pants.

I love what @graphite did with the additional carriage.

I would like like to get cracking on with building additional coaches now myself but I won't actually be getting the set until Christmas (as it will be a gift to me from my kids).

To save me downloading the full instructions and searching for the relevant pages, does anyone here have a part list of just the passenger carriage?

A bit lazy and cheeky I know, but someone on here must have already built their own add-on carriages.

also are there any exclusive/expensive parts to this section of the build?

I'd like to Bricklink the parts soon.

    any advice appreciated.

An extra coach recently sold on eBay for £22 + £3 postage and I assume Bricklink would be considerably cheaper.

ive interchanged the word carriage and coach as I'm not knowledgeable of train terms!

I finally got around to trying my extra train cars on the train and the engine doesn't have enough weight to not slip.  Going to have to mod it to see if I can get a boat weight in there to help keep it down.
  • flordflord CanadaMember Posts: 681
There is a trick with an elastic so it doesn't slip. I know Jang mentioned in his video review of the train.
  • sid3windrsid3windr BelgiumMember Posts: 1,405
Yeah - even without modding apparently it slips a bit already. An elastic band on the wheel on the inside (to keep it out of view) might indeed help.

^all these mods just to make the PF work...is it worth it for those who have already completed this?

Does Lego now actually enforce the limit, then? A year or so ago I bought something limited to 1 twice, and simply received it...

I was able to get three of the disney castles which were limited to two. I got two in one order then a few days later my wife ordered another, using the same account. So not sure how they enforce the limits.

Can currently order 5 in US @legoshop.  Only place I've ever had it enforced is at Lego store. Rep said to just come back in an hour and do it all over again. To which I complied.
