Building Hacks Lego Dragon

RebelegoRebelego Georgia, USAMember Posts: 171
I have most of the parts to build the Lego Dragon 3724-1. I just lack 110 2x2 corner bricks and 35ish 2x8 bricks.
This question is for someone who has built it...
can I replace the 2x8s with 2x4s without affecting the stability? I glanced through the instructions on a pdf and it looks like there wouldn't be a problem. But I'm not sure. Thanks in advance!

I ended up replacing the green 2x8s with green 1x8s and substituted some yellow 1x8s inside as long as you couldn't see them from the outside.
