@Fireheart....I understand waiting 3 weeks, but if you are interested in the set, why wait all the way until it is "marked as retiring soon before getting one" ?  Wouldn't you then face all the possibilities of out of stock, back orders,  available in 30 days, and all the other frustrations of soon to be retired products?

^ As its a poor excuse for a UCS set..
My main collection is Star Wars UCS, hence I will get one as it will leave a hole in the collection without it, but I will be in no hurry to get it.

The post was to show that a UCS set released in a few weeks is already on eBay.. And for a high premium at that.

Somebody should message the seller and tell him it is missing half the pieces.    ;)

@Craig_B Good one! I was thinking, that's impossible, I shouldn't click on this, glad I did though ;)

That's dedication. The bulk of my collection is Star Wars UCS predominantly post dark ages stuff but a few of the less popular models that I snagged for close to original RRP.

I don't think I could blow £200+ on a set just because it had the UCS moniker though. I'm not a completionist so am able to let sets that don't excite me slip by while I wait for something that makes me go "wow!"

Here's the bike at least! Built by one of our LUG members, Rob Mitchell, for a show we just did ,based on original plans by Anio

So going back to the original question I don't think we will get both #75159 and #75144 this year, we have never seen 3 large exclusive star wars sets in one year. Assault on Hoth is the May 4th set this year and I can the Snowspeeder coming out later in the year. I think the Death Star could be held as a 40th anniversary set and be released May next year.

I could see them holding off 75159 until December/January. If they did a full on round death star in style with 10143. I think the release would time nicely with the release of Rogue One Movie.

Yeah, wondering if the new DS is going to represent the new Rogue One coming out as well. Which leads me to believe that the set will likely be a model of a DS with some figures (like Vader and Tarkin, maybe an Emperor?)

What else should it be? a IV DS or VI DS wouldn't make sense when the have Rogue One film ahead. They already made the UCS DS II and the latest open playset DS I, so I did hope for a closed playset/UCS DS I, Rogue One themed.
Otherwise it could be the 'Starkiller base'? - But I don't know the LEGO Group's history of making covering up names...

    December release is optimal.

I might just laugh if Lego pulls one of these as a "UCS Snowspeeder".

Isn't the Rogue One Death Star the same as Episode IV's?

    Sure is.
But the last one of the first Death Star was a episode IV themed with an "open" design. I did just hope to have a Rogue One theme "closed" design (opening feature) first Death Star.

But the DS2 closed design was interesting as it was unfinished (but fully functional I might add).  A closed design DS1 would be a grey ball - not the most exciting model in the world.  And an opening feature would make it massive to display - much the same issue as the simpsons house has.

That's true. I was thinking of a different opening mechanism though, more like the Millennium Falcon or a type of layer/skin which could be pealed off. I didn't know display size was an issue.

Will it come with exclusive buildable figures like the speeder bike?

I just hope we don't get an Assault on the Death Star set in a similar fashion that we are getting the Assault on Hoth.  If Assault on the Death Star gets delayed until next year, then that might be the first warning. Let's just hope we don't see an article that shows all of the play features and how they show "all" of the iconic scenes.

Confirmed: Two Rebel Alliance members included in the Assault on the Death Star.

I wouldn't worry about Snowspeeder for a while, it's not coming out until next year! Death Star is still coming.
  • LordmoralLordmoral Member Posts: 927
"Assault" on Hoth was going to be my first UCS that I was going to nab (it features a lot of things I am missing from Hoth such as the Wampa Cave and that poor excuse Lego calls Echo base). As others have said Massacre on Hoth is more fitting giving that it only includes 2 Imperial troopers.

That's bad news, the death star will probably be a playset, that means no display SW set in 2016?!

I don't know for sure but I'm guessing it's the exact same set but with better builds and better minifigures.

I do not see a Sarlac pit being on the horizon.  It would need to have a Boba Fett mini-fig and we just had one in the UCS Slave I so I am thinking it has to be something else.

I think it's pretty safe to say that everyone that thought the new UCS Deathstar and UCS Snowspeeder were being released this year were pretty wrong.  :(

Nope. October release for Death Star, Snowspeeder is in 2017.

The LEGO March calendar says VIP early access to new sets starts March 16. Maybe that's when the snowspeeder will be available.

Pretty sure March 16th is the Silent Mary. Snowspeeder might be May.

So (and apologies for flogging this most deceased of equine beasts), I keep hearing rumours of a new UCS Falcon.  As someone who managed to get their grubby little mitts on a MISB #10179 just before Christmas, I consider that itch well and truly scratched (or at least it will be once I've built it - I didn't buy it to squirrel it away), but I'm still interested if something new were to appear, be that from the holy trinity or TFA.

I don't go hunting down every last detail of these rumours, so do we know if it's just wishful thinking or is there anything to suggest that there may actually be a new uber-Falcon at some point?

    Cheers!

With rumors like a new UCS Falcon, I find gut instinct and trending to provide the best evaluation of "Believe it or not". The two biggest trend that helps this rumor are:
    A) 6 of the top 10 largest piece-count sets ever are from 2016 or 2017. And I'm only counting the DS update, not the original.
    B) Death Star retirement and nearly immediate re-release/update is very telling of where TLG's thinking is at right now.

*Top 10 includes only those with widely available distribution ... Star Wars M&M mosaics don't count
  • wagnerml2wagnerml2 Member Posts: 1,376
Not to mention Lego's close relatonship w/ Disney and Disney's desire to promote their upcoming movies, including the Han Solo offshoot.  A new UCS Falcon seems a no-brainer.

^Ding Ding Ding, We have ourselves a winner!

I think that's the most likely reason for the whispers. Why not relaunch one of the most iconic Lego sets with the launch of a movie pretty much centered around that ship?

⬆ does make sense but that film is 2 years away, if indeed it is the next stand alone film. Could be 4 years away if it isn't.

If you plan on buying / Bricklinking the old UCS Falcon Id advise not doing that for the next few months just to be safe, until we hear more information

Don't rumours of this sort come up every few months or so anyway? And the only thing that's ever come of it is a bootleg and a nearly 50 page argument over semantics.

Sorry, I wasn't implying that anyone's information is wrong, just wondering out loud about the ability of rumours to spread very far, very fast. To rephrase "A rumour gets halfway around the world before the facts have a chance to get their pants on." Obviously, it doesn't help that TLG wouldn't reveal anything until they are good and ready.
