New Grand Carousel?

I visited my local LEGO store the other day to take advantage of the double points and was surprised to learn from an employee a new carousel set is coming to Creator along the lines of a revamped, possibly improved, Grand Carousel. Does anyone have any info on this? I can't seem to find anything.

That will be interesting. Especially if they actually improve it and make it less fragile but just as Grand.

Oh I hope this is true, I'm currently building the grand carousel and frankly it's awful and in desperate need of a re design. I have found that bits fall off when the motor is running falling through gaps in the floor and causing the motor to stop working properly, I know it's not just me as the same things have happened to friends with the same model. It could be a fabulous model with a redesign and whilst it was fab in it's day I suspect we are used to a little better now.

Permit me to put a fine point on this - Lego Store Employees have no inside information when it comes to future set releases or set retirements.  

There are 1000 stories of Lego Store Employees 'sharing' absolutely ludicrous 'inside' information.

Who knows if a Carousel is on the horizon? There was a previous Ferris Wheel, so it could be reasonable that there could possibly be a new one/re-release in the future.

This is not too far fetched.  And is a lot more feasible than a roller coaster.  I'm going to predict this being 90% true over the next 12 months.

I'd love a carousel even if it wasn't as grand as the last. As others have mentioned it would be nice to add another item to the fairground.  Not holding out hopes though as I haven't known Lego store employees to know much about future releases as SumoLego mentioned.

I think that 18.5% of the time @Pitfall69 is 89% being 50% a dick.

And this is based on 67.2% of my predictions being 99% correct 25% of the time.  (In the first 12 months.  The percentage goes up in the following 31 months, and then dips thereafter to 34.2°.)

I have slowly been piecing together my own version of the Grand Carousel, but still using the instructions and base design. I am not finished so I haven't had complaints, but it will sadden me if a new one comes out (guaranteed to be a smaller version, I'm thinking bigger than winter village though) and probably will sit at $150....

The problem is, do I scrap my almost finished grand version, for this other version? likely not considering I spent so much money on the grand version.

But it would be interesting to see how it plays out in the future.

I'll hold off bricklinking the carousel for now then. You never know. They did bring back the Ferris wheel so it's not impossible and it was looking like it was going to be a very expensive nbricklink foray 

I'm pleased you posted anyway - if nothing else it gives me 300 or so to spend on current sets!

LEGO didn't "bring back" the Ferris Wheel. The first one is micro scale and is a shadow of the current one. It was only $70 USD. The new one is exceptional albeit more expensive and doesn't come with Power Functions. 

Now, there is always a chance that a new carousel is in the works, but how grand will it be. There was a rumor that we were getting a Roller Coaster and they were right, but look what we got.

Lego store employees are less than useless when it comes to rumors.  They are actually harmful because they historically spread misinformation, which leads people to post things like you did.  Hell, amazingly you even managed to influence one person to alter their plans as a result of you posting this unfounded rumor.

I find your actions detrimental, and Pitfall's to be a sarcastically funny way to help contain your damage.

No I know all that but you never know! I live in hope with Lego and new designs and to be honest I was very undecided about trying to bricklink the retired carousel anyway so I'll hold on and pray. I did post on here about it the other day but remain ambivalent which means I can't really NEED one.

Should any 'new' carousel match the 'roller coaster' in style and format I won't be surprised of course, there have sadly been many disappointments with new sets over time but some amazing surprises too so I'll wait and see what transpires over the year. I won't exactly have lost anything by waiting and the money gets spent regardless!

It depends on the employee.

Yes, I've spoken to employees who have spouted obvious rubbish, but I've also spoken to employees who actually knew what they were talking about. You just have to know which is which.

I was first told that Town Hall would be retiring by an employee (6 months before it did - although I discounted that at the time because it was out of sync, so I assumed they'd got their wires crossed), I was told that last year's WV set would be a Toy Store by an employee, and I had it confirmed that last year's Modular would be a Detective's Office by an employee.

So it very much depends which employees you speak to. Speak to employees in the know, and you can find out things months in advance of when they're officially announced.

We were told about a Mulan figure in the Disney series by a LEGO Store Employee.

I wouldn't trust any of them (except if they were me or one of you guys!! ;)) )

I doubt it. It's too recent, and I suspect it didn't sell all that well.

I have found the more knowledgeable LEGO store employees that have an idea of what is coming out keep most of their info close to their vests (after all, some are sets that LEGO's media dept have not released info on, so why would a LEGO employee at a store know it, or know it and leak it and possibly get into trouble?), and only if you can volunteer info will they kind of confirm or deny... Any LEGO employee just volunteering random info I find may not know what they are talking about.

I think the odds of getting a revamped (and, yes, bumblepants, probably smaller) carousel as part of the Fairground series are actually pretty good, given how much admiration there is for the Grand Carousel but also how much criticism there is for its design from people who have actually built it. I want a technique that allows me to use proper Lego horses for the animals (and I wouldn't mind a few special animals as well, like lions or zebras...we already have bears). And I really would like a new sound brick with a nice carousel-y tune, given the price of the original one now! (Provided there was also an off-switch for the sound brick, of course ;-) )

Exactly. You have to get to know them, chat to them, and know how to ask them things which will lead them to divulge any information they have.

Those who volunteer info, probe them. Question them - where did they get that info? What is the set like? How much will it be? If they've effectively just made it up, their info will fall apart easily under questioning.

Indeed. It was a LSE who told me when double points would happen in the EU but apparently that wasn't good enough for some people. Like with everything else, you use your own judgement when choosing to believe a rumour or not. Info leaks out, always has, always will, and if a LSE gets that info before me, I'm not going to discount them just because they're a retail assistant for TLG rather than a designer. They could have talked to the delivery driver, who might have seen or been shown something in the warehouse, where promotional material is being prepared for despatch, or where sets are being stock-piled pending release. I think it's incredibly rude to say "don't believe anything a LSE says" simply because you assume they couldn't possibly know anything about anything. Sure, some might get info from Brickset, some might actually know a thing or two.

Those types of bricks only tend to have "on" switches - it avoids flat batteries and angry parents.

I think what is coming out is a UCS Falcon that is mounted on a base that allows it to spin around and a sound brick that plays the Star Wars theme. I could see how that could get misinterpreted through the grape vine ;)

C'mon, people.  We're clearly sticker sniffers.

However, I would expect retail Lego Store Employees to know Double Points promotions, release dates for exclusives, VIP dates, or stuff of that sort.

Anything that would affect the day-to-day of the store.  When/if a set may be released in 2017 is totally above their pay grade.

Better yet - ask a store employee what happens to exclusive sets that are damaged in shipping.  Where do those go?

If you get an answer to that question, I'm all ears.

Ferris Wheel Rumored early April....Officially announced in Late April.  Seems about the same for the Fairground Mixer.
