Scaling factor for the giant brick-built LEGO Minifigures at retail?

edited January 2016 in Everything else LEGO
I'm working on an article that explores scale in LEGO creations.  Most of it is focused on scales which are smaller than real life like the 1:48 for the common minifigure, or the 1:20 for miniland standard, but I have occasionally seen examples where people build giant re-creations of real LEGO sets, or massive brick-built minfigures.

I know that the giant version of the UN Headquarters was about 12:1, and the giant x-wing was 42:1.

Does anyone know what scale the brick-built LEGO minifigures seen at LEGO brand retail are?

Example brick built LEGO minifigure.

thanks,

Does anyone happen to know how many studs tall these figures are? (Maybe someone who works at LEGO Brand retail or a model studio could count or at least measure it with a ruler?)

I want to make sure I accurately reference the scale in a magazine article I'm working on.

    Sincerely,
    ---tom

That doesn't sound right.  A 12:1 UN building would be enormous (like 3 stories high), and a 42:1 X wing would fit in a polybag.  Wasn't the giant X-Wing 1:1?

    Agreed, on all three counts.

The UN Headquarters building is approx 1100:1 heightwise...

I think they meant that the giant UN headquarters that they made was 12x larger than the LEGO set.

This figure is an older style to the one shown in your first post, but from the top of the metal base to the top of the highest stud on the helmet, it stands approx 33 and 3/8 inches tall.

I took the photo with an old camera phone in 2009 (apparently).

Can't seem to get the post to embed the image, but there's a link there to the image hosted on photobucket. Hope this info is of use.

If the standard minifig is 1:48 scale, a life size version of a minifig would just be the inverse.

Well, it would at least be secure...once you get your clip properly connected to the stud anyhow.
