I've kinda soured on the the whole TRU BOGO sales. They jack up ALL of the Lego prices from what I've seen so your discount is much less than you think. You still save but a lot less.

What do you mean they jack up all the prices? At TRU their normal retail price is often higher than the LEGO Suggested price, but I haven't found them increasing their prices even more specifically during the BOGO50 sales...

That's exactly what I'm saying. So those deals aren't as good as they appear.

Well, a lot of TRU's sets are sold at MSRP, and sometimes (especially online), you can get the BOGO50 to apply to items that are on sale too.

But I agree - when the price of the set is higher than everywhere else, the "BOGO50" sale is really no better than 15-20% off, which Target does on LEGO periodically, but Target doesn't have nearly the selection of TRU.

And, in certain cases, BOGO50 of TRU's inflated prices is still the cheapest price available.

    I think

I saw my first example of exactly this yesterday. I picked up a couple of small sets last Sunday when the sale began, and noted that the new 2012 sets were MSRP. I didn't pick up any of those, as I was going to Legoland FL and the Orlando Disney Store the next couple of days. I went back into the local store, and all of the 2012 dino and city sets had been marked up... the $20 sets (ambulance, caravan) were now $25. That's a 25% mark-up.

So before, had I gotten these 2 sets, I would have saved 25% off MSRP. Now, I save 6%.

Is this the cheapest price available right now on 2012 sets? Probably. Put is it's more than a gallon of gasoline out of my way to get these "savings", I can wait.

Yep, I too saw this yesterday. All the $12 2012 sets were marked up to $15, everything between $20 and $50 had $5 extra tacked on, and anything over $50 had $10 extra. This is definitely some new behavior. I'm used to some sets being marked up, but not everything, and not by so much.

Like I mentioned at another thread. I've seen a LEGO rep working on TRU's shelves 3 days ago and spoke with her about these mark-ups and not even her knew the reason for that. She found the strategy absurd, and, like me, she believes TRU misses a lot of sales because these mark-ups. But there's always the mom and the grandma that will get these as gifts for kids on their families during Xmas!

Just got back from TRU. Amazed at some of their markups. Harry Potter Quiddich Match: $37.99 (MSRP is $19.00) Lots of crowds in the aisle though, including many moms who picked up Star Wars sets, and were disappointed in the fine print that Star Wars isn't included in the sale.
