I held off getting extra copies of Old Trilogy Star Wars sets because as everyone has said there will always be remakes. The past x-wing
#9493 , Millenium Falcon
#7965 , and the Tie Fighter
#9492 were all magnificent models. I have one of each used (except for the falcon because I sold it). However, I really am not a fan of the newer models Lego has available (the falcon isn't much different though). The OT sets are also rising fast in the aftermarket, although the falcon isn't going up as much.
I'm kicking myself now because I have decided to start buying sets for my future kids (including Friends sets which I have no idea about) if I have any. My dad introduced me to the OT SW and I fell in love with the universe and story line. I expect to show my kids the OT first, maybe the PT and then possibly TFA after. To me, OT will always be superior and that's why I wish I had a new copy of the iconic vehicles for them instead of just TFA ones. Does anyone think Lego will go back to making OT sets at some point in the future? I don't care if it's even 10 years from now. I just don't want TFA Legos to be the only SW available, but I know this could be a possibility seeing as it will be the SW that kids grow up with nowadays.

For the first time in a while they have new material to use, I hope they use it.
I've decided to go UCS only - I really liked the Cantina and would have been tempted to get 2 or 3 sets to combine for a decent sized one, but there is a matter of storage - I have a big Endor display at the moment at the sacrifice of a decent sized Hoth display, I suspect the Endor lot will be getting mothballed/sold soon. Hopefully TLG will stick primarily with OT for UCS sets (although a new TFA UCS MF would tempt me.
If that is correct, OT interest will dwindle as the population ages (and diminishes as kids enter their dark ages). There won't be a subsequent boom in demand as TFA will be the Star Wars that the present kids identify with and are nostalgic to experience. However, since many of the OT characters are iconic, I cannot see it ever going completely away.
#75104 doesn't have wings that angle in the way that Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle should; #75102, #75125 and #30278 don't have the offset upper and lower wings that are a major distinguishing feature of a T-70 X-wing; and who knows if #75100 and #75126 are accurate representations of First Order Snowspeeders, given that you only ever see one stationary in silhouette in the background of one scene in the film.
Whether it's TLG's or Lucasfilm's fault I don't know, but I trying to release sets from limited pre-production information before the film has been released hasn't produced the best results IMO.
This was the problem with the Hobbit sets; they were all planned before the film was split into the final 3, so they were stuck with making changes at the last minute and having questionable release schedules on sets. However, they're forced to do this as they can't wait until the movie is out, or close to being out, to start planning and designing sets. They'd never get them out on time to coincide with the movies that way. It's all kind of inherent with sets being based on a very popular and secretive movie.
Too close to Legolas. Now I'm confused and feel the need to aggressively mount a mumakill.
@CapnRex101, or @drdavewatford- I know you want to be the grammar police.
I guess this set is OT/TFA blend.
TFA MF vs OT MF: OT MF wins as they are near identical in build but the TFA MF tries and fails at making it look weathered with the alternating dark bley plates. The minifig line-up is not as good, considering there is only 3 figs exclusive to this set (Old Han and the 2 Kanjiklub thugs) with only 1 even being desirable.
TFA X-wing vs. OT X-wing: This fared better than I thought it would actually. The difference in color scheme made a big difference in the feel of the build compared to the normal white with red details we've experienced multiple times with the OT X-wing in system and UCS scale. I really like the finished appearance and looking forward to the blue Resistance version to sit next to it. Weirdly nice like seeing the same car but in 3 colors sitting next to each other. The fig selection was great too, with the improved helmet & visor combo.
TFA TIE vs. OT TIE: The build experience was very similar to each other. The color change didn't affect or add to it as much as the X-wing. The finished ship appears very close but less visually fluid or seamless around the cockpit compared to the OT TIE in nearly all uniform black with light bley highlights. Fig selection on this one is relatively weak compared to its RRP, with the FO Crew Member also being found in the Kylo Shuttle set and the small Battlepack set.
The remaining are original sets without OT versions. But my review on them would be...
Rey's Speeder: Best value for your buck set out of the wave. The Speeder is just great, nice small build, accurate to the real thing.
FO Snowspeeder: Is a weak build at $40 RRP, the construction is quite quick and not much bigger than Rey's Speeder in finished form. The fig selection is also weak, with essentially the same single FO Snowtrooper as in the Micro-Speeder set except these have either a Kama skirt or Pauldron on the shoulder.
FO Troop Transporter: A so-so build experience, being that it was sufficiently long but lacked any creative techniques or anything impressive really. The finished vehicle feels mediocre for its RRP, even though its appearance in the movie made it look more badass than it ends up being in the brick. The saving grace is the nice selection of figs, Phasma and a couple Flametroopers. The Resistance fighters can be had for cheap on the market, so no biggie there.
Ren's Shuttle: The build was blah, as you can imagine the only substantial build was around the fuselage which is relatively small and simple. The huge wings were easy and quick to build, with the sliding function to be an interesting technique usable for other purposes like say a sliding bay door on a Blackhawk Helicopter for instance. But the finished vehicle is indeed impressive due to it's imposing footprint from the wings. I would be interested in having this redone as a UCS scale model. The figures on this are stellar, as this is the only one to get the hooded Kylo Ren and Hux. The other figs are just variants of FO Stormtrooper (with Pauldron), FO Officer (Female), FO Crew Member (brown head).
it just look's so so good.
