Question about stickers

I just decided to build my Mystery Machine tonight and and lordy, it has a lot of stickers.
But my question is why, when Lego have numbered all the stickers, do we start with sticker No. 8?
What's wrong with logic and convention and starting with 1??

Anyone know if there's a reason for this?

Anyway, back to my careful sticker application...

It's a lot easier to locate a sticker if they are in numerical order on the sheet. The layout there is determined by what can be fitted together most efficiently.

I never noticed they are in numerical order on the sheet. And now I see it,  so I guess you're right,  thank you @TigerMoth.

But it didn't really help me find the right sticker, because I was just bemused by why the first used in the book was not number one so I was still scanning over the sheet for what felt like ages to see where the next number was.  (Much like with my Advent calendar every day.) My brain must work in a different way!

    So question answered I guess.
It will still bug me though! :-)

Surely the obvious answer to that is because the stickers are not necessarily applied in the order in which they're numbered. A bit chicken-and-egg that.

Once you've realised that, then you might try to establish what determines the order, but the essential bit is that it's not been done your way - so you look one-by-one, exactly the same as you would had they been ordered in some other apparently random fashion.

This post should not be read before the third cup of coffee of the day.
