Let's hope they get so over used and drop to a penny a piece on BL!

Hi-rez photos and confirmation of the use of the 1x2 as a foot flame holder.

Why would they waste a new mold on this?  It locks the legs into the same position so you can't have them bent at different angles.  The 1x1 round with hole has a thinner profile and would be less obvious.  Cool fig though!

^ It uses two of the 1x1 rounds with hole as well.

It looks very odd. Do the flames come out of the feet, or is he standing on a hover board type thing that has the flames?
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
For that character the flames come out of the feet- I think the looking strange is an AFOL criticism that kids won't see.

it does strike me as an odd purpose for a special part, I wonder if it's partly from the reports of trans 1x1 round bricks cracking minifig legs when left in - not a problem I've had myself but sure I've seen it discussed here. the big tell on that will be if the next Iron Man figure uses this setup too.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
Presumably they could just use a red 'apollo' stud, if that is the problem. They would then still be able to use the fire piece, but also have posable legs.

Maybe the part will make a lot more sense when we see it used in another manner in a set that, for one reason or another, hasn't been released yet? Maybe the reason for releasing it in these sets, used in this manner, allowed the designers to order different new parts for the set we're yet to see?

In general a part attached by two studs has the potential to be more secure than one attached by a single stud. For the fire jet application I can see how it'd be preferable for kids to be able to snap one preconstructed segment onto the fig's legs instead of two, and to have a sturdier connection to both legs for action play.

Of course, there'll be plenty of other applications as well, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Just like the 1x2 plate can be used for things a 1x1 plate wouldn't suffice for, this part will be useful for situations where a pair of "Apollo studs" just wouldn't do.

Sorry if this was mentioned but are the feet of this robot from the Ninjago City new? It's not a part I've seen before unless I'm just missing something.

^ Thanks for the info! I looked them up and it looks like they've been around for a few years. Since they're really only in sets I dont collect I just missed them.

I just learned about those feet and the shoulder parts from the Nexo bots recently. The shoulders really threw me. Didn't look like Lego at all.

The legs were originally in white with black boots for the Skulkins in the 2011 Ninjago sets. The leg and boot are one piece.

That's what threw me off at first, it looked like it was a bar with a clip and then a modified plate for the feet.

This is from the photo posted in the nexo knights general discussion thread. I noticed this silver curve piece in the back and found the unreleased piece to be interesting. Might it be a early version of https://brickset.com/parts/6131732/roof-tile-8x6-45deg-w-cut?

Not a new part, but only one set had 3676 in light bluish gray. Looks like there are 9 in Joker Manor. Maybe they won't be $33 on bricklink now. Will maybe help out the people who are bricklinking the UCS Imperial Star Destroyer a little bit.

Even better news for some people is that it's feasible that Lego have a middle incline section too that fits between the upper and lower ramp parts...

Or just wait for the re-release next year ... :-)

It is a non-licensed system part, so it will probably come to replacement parts soon enough, and get used in other sets.

I think they still count as mirrors whether they're stickers or not? I mean, most LEGO mirrors are stickers — I'm pretty sure the one in Detective's Office was one of the first that wasn't.

Now, if it were a sticker like in #4702 or #4721 that just had a picture of what its reflection was supposed to be, rather than an actual mirrored surface, then I'd agree — not mirrors. But these stickers seem to have an actual mirror finish.

Its a sticker, not a part per se. Now, before you go on your hour long dissertation about how a sticker can be a part, I do not recall seeing any references to stickers in this thread, only plastic pieces. Now, maybe I'm wrong about that (and stickers have been referenced in this thread) and if so, then I will apologize. However, to my recollection, this thread is actually LEGO pieces that are new, otherwise we would be seeing every sticker sheet that is in a new set in this thread.

I might branch off the mirror conversation and bring up something I have been wondering about for quite some time. Where are all the chrome pieces? I’m a fan of them but to my disappointment Lego seems to be using them less and less. Correct me if I’m wrong but are the only chrome pieces available at the moment is the chrome ring in the Parisian Restaurant and the chrome money in the brick bank.

Is there any reason in particular that there is a reason for less chrome or am I imagining this shortage in chrome?

Nevertheless, wish that there were more chrome available.

Well chrome can be a bit polluting to produce if I recall, so that may be part of the problem, cost, plus chrome can come off of parts as well when played with, so I think all of these factors mean less chrome used, which -I agree- is a bit of a shame.

This all got me thinking after seeing the new Last Jedi Trailer that how cool would it be to get a chrome Captain Phasma figure as a May the Fourth promo like the TC-14 promo. However, with the lack of chrome (from your reasons mentioned above) I didn't know if it was worth holding my breath for one.

Would love to get this figure among other chrome pieces.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I'm not a fan of chrome figures, as they are not properly chromed parts. They are sprayed when completed, so there are the awful 'shadows' on the inside legs, under the arms, etc. While that is fine if the minifig is standing still upright, it means they cannot be posed without showing off the painting faults.

Check out Bricks4All's bricklink store. I needed a few chrome pieces to replace ones missing from #10026 (thrift shop find) and ordered them from Bricks4All, and the parts are beautiful.

My understanding is that it's mainly down to price. Not only does the process of producing chrome parts involve more steps and somewhat more expensive materials than an average LEGO piece, but in many cases chrome parts actually have to use different molds than their non-chromed counterparts, since the chrome finish changes the part's thickness.

Plus, LEGO just has way more options for metallic colors than they did back in the 90s when chrome parts were more common. Back then, the options for gold and silver treasures were a choice between chrome silver or grey, or between chrome gold and bright yellow. But these days LEGO has some richly-colored, reasonably consistent "pearl" colors that can be used a lot more freely, as well as painted or lacquered metallic colors. Chrome is no longer the only way to make a part feel shiny or special.

Got it. First, you called me out for critiquing someone saying the mirror sticker was a new part. NOW, because your mirror argument is invalidated, you switch to the fact I failed to mention the wavy panel part was not new.
Sure, I did not mention the panel itself, but did I ever mention the wavy panel was NOT a new part? No. I figured people would understand I was only talking about the sticker, but I forgot some people need everything spelled out for them.

It just seemed a confusing thing for you to have to spell out in the first place. @NeilCrosby said the funhouse mirrors were new. That statement was correct whether he was talking about the sticker, the piece, or both. Why insist that he's wrong, and that the mirrors he's excited about aren't real mirrors?

I like it but seems like 6 wide would have been a bit more useful. Then again it will probably be more adaptable to other applications at the 4 stud width.
