    Is this screw part new?
Yes! It looks really cool - can't wait to have a play with one.

I didn't look closely at the Police sets when they were revealed, but that training academy is an entire Wipeout set. I'm pretty sure the screw axle and the corresponding  2x2x2 block are new.

I didn't notice the brick. I assumed it was two "shorter" screw pieces, but it does almost look like it goes through the entire brick.

It seems to be three 6-stud lengths.

There is also a pearl gold tube piece with an imprinted pattern in the Monkie Kid Hideout set.  You can see it in the enlarged picture of the back side of the red structure with the gold knob on top.

That's the same new "staff end" piece that appears in that set and the Ultra Mech, I think. Looks nice, though unlike the current one it looks too wide for minifigs to grip at the ends (making it seemingly purely decorative).

There's several other new weapon elements for the other characters as well, corresponding to the popular conceptions of the weapons/accessories of the traditional Journey to the West characters—a decorative sword for Mei, two new end pieces for Sha Wujing's (Sandy's) crescent moon spade, an end piece for Zhu Bajie's (Pigsy's) nine-toothed Rake, and an end piece for Tang's (Tang Sanzang's) khakkara staff. All of these show up in 80044, but the sword also appears in 80043 and the ends to MK/Monkey King's staff also appear in 80045.

^I don’t know, but I’m sure the part around the screw (the black block) is a new part!

I really look forward to a New Elementary article on this part. Interested in the ways it could fit in with the system.

I assume all the Great Ball Contraption people are gonna love it.

That was my initial reaction too, though the space of the screw is smaller. I'm sure those GBC wizards won't find issue with that, however!

I want those Jack-o-lantern prints from the new Spider-Man set.  What are the chances they show up in a Halloween set next year?

Dunno how likely it is, might depend on how specifically they're based on the pumpkin bombs from the show (vs. being generic jack-o-lanterns). If the prints are based on the cartoon then they're unlikely to show up in unlicensed sets.

In other news, I'm very into those new space wheels from the biggest of those sets! Hoping they come in colors like white and black before long.

I see a 1x2 half-round "jumper" tile over the windows of the Jazz Club, is that new?

Edit to add - I found it on BrickLink, it was introduced in 2022, in red for Peach's Castle.

    Nice double bass too.

We need more minifig musical instruments from Lego!! I was rather worried when I read in the interview that the double bass was going to be created for Vidiyo. That would have completely ruined it and it's a shame musical instruments have to be in a silly theme like Vidiyo instead of releasing them in normal sets. Still waiting on literally every brass instrument LOL. A clarinet, oboe or bassoon would also be cool pieces.
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 3,716
Lego acoustic and electric guitars, saxophone, violin, keytar, maracas: all were made before Vidiyo. The double bass was developed for Vidiyo, but how would that have ruined it? If not developed for Vidiyo, it wouldn't exist to be in Jazz Club.

Yeah, the only instruments in Vidiyo that were really that "out there" were the anchor and axe-shaped guitars—and unlike those, this was clearly designed to be a standard double bass shape. If anything this makes me wonder what other instruments we might've gotten to see if Vidiyo had continued—and whether there's any other instruments developed for it like this that might still someday see the light of day.

The double bass could reasoably represent a cello- just have the player seated, it'll be obvious it's supposed to be a cello. But we need a viola! ;)

Is the Plant Stalk in the Hufflepuff House Banner new?  Looks like there is a new color of the KRYDSHUL& CROWN LEAF piece in the set too as well as DESIGN ELEMENT, W/ 3.2 SHAFT, NO. 1.

I think it released in Mario sets already but I don't pay much attention to those so I could be wrong.

You are right.  I knew there was a longer version in some Super Mario sets but I never noticed this one before.  I just searched bricklink and this one did appear in two sets released this year.

It's not a longer version, it's several of them stacked. So, more versatile. I'm kinda surprised the farm sets didn't use any.

I see two interesting new parts for the benches/hinges in the Hogwarts Banner sets—a 1x3 plate with a Technic hole on the end (and only two studs) and a 2x4 inverted tile. Both seem useful so I hope they show up elsewhere before long!

I just noticed browsing the new parts front page article the prickly bush is now in reddish brown for the Rocket Mech tail! Also the small leaf is in sand green too now.

Looks to be a second patterned butterfly piece in the upcoming A-Frame Cabin.  There are definitely two each in two different colors that I can see.  Look to be the Leaf Plate in Earth Green also, can't tell if any of the others are new colors.

Actually I think the Red leaf plate is new also.  I hope the cabin drawing over the bed is a print instead of a sticker.

I think between the A-Frame and the new Botanical offerings, there will be several new plant element colors. Variation is always nice!

Are the 1x3 tiles with wood grain on them from the A-Frame new as well?

If you're referring to these, which are used above the windows and front door, then no.

The print (63864pb133) was introduced in 2021 and has only appeared in four sets, although two of those instances, most notably the Ideas Tree House #21318, are as replacements for an older print (63864pb049), which had silver nails.
The newer print only uses one color (brown), instead of three (brown, black, silver) for the older with-nails print, so it's presumably quicker and cheaper to manufacture.

and those 1x3 prints are not really cheap either (unless the price has come down recently... what I am saying?! Its LEGO, the price likely has gone up)

This is a new plant piece, right? I'm certain that I haven't seen it elsewhere yet (but I'm not always 100% up on every new piece in every theme).

I searched BL for “plant”, “leaf”, and “fern” and couldn’t find it.

That plant and the corn pieces, you make a really authentic corn field with weeds and everything

Yeah, it's a new piece! I expect we will probably see it in other themes soon since neither the press release nor the set description really call attention to it (as they likely would if it were designed for this set specifically).

The various new weapons from that set are also neat, though I suspect that they come as an IP-locked multi-pack like some of the Batman accessory packs we've seen over the years, in which case we won't be seeing them in other themes. Still versatile enough that they could probably be used in non-LotR MOCs, though.

There are also lots of great recolors in that set:
Anyone spot any others of interest?

  • MynattMynatt Member Posts: 629
Not a new part. Clearly. But does anyone know why LEGO stopped making these hinges? The don't seem particularly fragile and we have parts like https://brickset.com/parts/design-60478 and https://brickset.com/parts/design-52738, but these older ones were only one plate tall and create a smooth transition.

  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 3,716
Well, they could break. They also could get worn and very loose, and then be pretty much useless. There's very little surface area to provide friction.
    madforLEGOgmonkey76
  • WesterBricksWesterBricks Member Posts: 779
^ Exactly this.  In time, the hinge would wear out and couldn't hold its position.  As a kid I had a few City sets that suffered from that and it was disheartening. BrickLink didn't exist back then, so I just lived with it.

The other side of that coin is that the newer click hinges aren't as compact.
    arathemismadforLEGO
  • pxchrispxchris Member Posts: 2,338
Those finger hinges are fantastic! Right up until the point that they can't hold a position at all! They're a bane to us classic collectors. But I still have a big ol' bag full of them.
