I thought they were going to send them to us. I don't care if I have to pay for the fix I just want it. I tried contacting them and they're sending me more of the piece that was messed up because they didn't even read my support email. Bit frustrating.

I got the following response from LEGO Customer Service yesterday:

    "I’m sorry there’s a problem with your LEGO® Ideas set 21303 WALL·E.

Like you, we’re big fans of this bold little robot and we wanted to make sure that LEGO WALL·E was just as fun as the character in the film. For that reason, we gave LEGO WALL·E the ability to turn his head all the way around.

However, as we’ve since heard that some fans feel WALL·E’s head moves a little too freely, we’ve decided to take their advice and make some improvements to the set. Our designers have finished their redesign and we hope to send out new instructions and pieces in the next week or two.

Thank you for providing your address that we can send the parts to. I’ll get back in touch as soon as the new solution’s available."

That sounds like they're sending the right pieces, so I'll see what eventually turns up.

It will certainly be interesting comparing LEGO's solution with Chris McVeigh's. Has anyone done so and come up with any view on which is better, or are they both pretty much the same, functionally and aesthetically?

To answer @brumey's original question, @Olfan posted the following list in the comments of the article that @picklefish mentioned above. The list of parts is apparently:

    3 x 4654582
    2 x 4211350
    1 x 6015356
    1 x 6136458
    1 x 4619760

I haven't confirmed this myself, so perhaps you could give them a go?

Laff, I received a canned response from the first fix back in September.  I'm expecting only two pieces... WTF Lego.

Did not want to start a new topic, but just wanted to let you know that the new Wall-E comes with the fix indeed. I ordered mine back during double VIP and received it on Friday. Had my son's birthday party this weekend, so only just managed to build it. It is the new version and I am so in love with the little guy - worth the wait.

Hope LEgo sents all the pieces out you need soon.

Did anyone manage to get someone to send them the new pieces? What is LEGO doing about this?

I sent them an e-mail earlier in the week about the latest fix and got the same response as everyone else to provide my mailing address to receive the new parts.  That e-mail said they expect a fix to be ready in the next week or two.

I wrote to them asking for the parts and I should be receiving them in 7-10 working days. I can already see the order on my LEGO account and these are the parts it says they're sending me:

    2 x 4211695
    2 x 4265484
    3 x 6136458

which doesn't really make sense to me since I'll have no where to clutch the 6136458 piece, but we'll see when they arrive.

They also sent me the link to the new instruction booklet (I'm afraid they're not sending a new printed one :( ) and told me to pay attention to pages 29, 34 and 80.

I wonder if we've got another variant. The parts and two of the three pages don't make sense. What's the link for the new instructions?

I believe it's the same one that's on the web. Here's the link the sent me:

    Then something's not right.

I've seen that version of the instructions and the list of parts you gave doesn't match the changes, and which is why presumably why you've got no socket for your ball.

Pages 29 and 34 are identical between 6146259 and 6162870 - at least as far as I can tell. As is page 75 which essentially shows the complete build to that point;  the changes start on page 76.

I can only agree.  I'll give you guys an update as soon as the parts arrive.

This is the Instruction Supplement that came with my newly arrived set.

@BrickDancer, so the manual in the box is the original manual but they've included an additional supplement and extra parts?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
Yes that's right. But the extra parts are mixed in with all the rest. It's all Un-numbered bags so easy to incorporate. The supplement is 12 pages, here's the first and the last steps.

Thanks.  I was considering returning my 3 'old' sets and buying new but now I hope I can do away with the aggro and just request the add-ons.  That part number on the back might come in handy.  6162843.  Thanks.  :)
  • TigerMothTigerMoth Member Posts: 2,343
And there, ladies and gentlement, is the answer to everything.

The small bag in the centre on the left (just black and grey pieces) isn't in the original, and seems to contain all the expected items plus a couple of technic bushes.

So they've added a bag and a manual. If you ask for the update, presumably that's what you'll get, and it will be impossible to determine the difference between versions - unless the box itself has a different number.

@BrickDancer, can you oblige. The original was 6128858.

Alright, perhaps we not going to get an answer quite so simply - the number I gave is the non-US version, without a part count on the outside.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
    The box has Item: 6128859.

    There's two seals on the box: 47R5 & 39R5

    I did wonder.  :)

With consecutive numbers, that's probably just the original US box. You can't guarantee it, but the numbers are used vaguely chronologically.

Two seals also suggests the same thing.

Was the new instruction booklet on the top and the original on the bottom?
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
    Original was on top.
  • TigerMothTigerMoth Member Posts: 2,343
Then US and non-US sets are packed differently. Or they were that day. It doesn't really matter though.

I've received an email confirming these parts have already been shipped, but now on my 'order status' I have a new extra order with the item 6162839. They haven't told me anything about it, but it seems they have realised themselves they weren't sending me the right ones and they've placed a new order with the actual fix.
Still, I won't believe it until I have it.

That's very close, numerically, to the update booklet. I therefore suspect it is something like an apology letter, sent separately and from a local office, so that you receive a copy in the correct language.

Haven't really been keeping track of the locations of everyone who's received the new fix but I'm in the US and just got an e-mail saying to expect to receive the new parts and instructions within 10 days.

I'm in the UK and got a similar email today.

    Received the supplement pack today.
Contains the above mentioned instructions 6162843, a small instruction sheet on how to remove the head 6162845, and the parts needed for the 'fix'.
Called customer service 7 days ago - so pretty fast delivery!

    Mine arrived today

I bought from John Lewis, phoned to ask and was sent a kit, no further questions asked. It arrived the other day, applied and it makes a positive difference though not massive as a display piece to be honest. I guess if you had him on a low shelf looking up maybe, but for me it wasn't a massive problem to begin with. The only thing eating away at me now is if they ever produce a manual with the changes in (rather than additional booklet) I would have to get it to feel complete. I assume this won't happen but if anyone finds the existence of such a manual let me know so I can get shopping please!

Still waiting. I was hoping it would turn up before Christmas as I was planning to build him on boxing day. I guess I'll have to live with a sad droopy head until the fix arrives to cheer him up...
  • MattsWhatMattsWhat Member Posts: 1,643
^it doesn't droop, if you want him to look up at all, his head spins round so he is looking backwards.  You can live without the fix for a bit, and its easy to take apart and repair when it arrives (took all of 2 minutes).  And it's an awesome build either way!

Emailed customer services about this earlier this month. It took them a few days to reply, but the new instructions and pieces should be here before Christmas with luck

Mine also dropped through the letterbox today. Stripped down and rebuilt and its so much better. You can now pose the head and it stays there.

I emailed them about a week or so ago and never got a reply (other than the automated one saying they got my message), but I just checked my order status and they are sending me the kit, though the status now says it's backordered.

I got the auto reply and then a few days later an order dispatched email

"Of course we will send the Rework bag with new parts and building instructions. We are working hard to make more, we should have more in the middle of January. As soon as it will be in stock, we will ship it to you." says the email I got yesterday.

I still haven't received any emails about it, but I've been checking my order status. Yesterday it changed to "In process" so I got excited, but now today it says "Waiting for new stock". (Order was placed December 21, 2015)

I haven't bothered yet. It seems like a huge pain from the sounds of it.  I suppose I should as it would be nice to have the fixed neck but as it is I mostly just have it sitting as a model so its not really a big deal.

How's it a pain?  You just send them an e-mail and wait...

I waited until mid-January to inquire about getting the necessary parts. On Jan. 10 I went to Bricks and Pieces and sent an e-mail explaining that I had bought the older version of the set and heard there was a fix for the loose head. Today I got an e-mail saying that the repair kit has been shipped! Really couldn't have been much easier...faster, perhaps, but not easier.
  • brumeybrumey Member Posts: 1,002
    mine still isnt shipped.

its showing up under "orders" tough. but not shipped!

Mine shipped yesterday. I already have the Chris McVeigh fix, so it will be interesting to compare the two.

Got mine today in the post. A packet of parts and the amended section of instructions. Lego service is second to none.
