What is the most you have spent on a Bricklink parts order?

ISDAvengerISDAvenger Member Posts: 205
i just spent close to $700.00 on a parts on a single Bricklink order for a MOC I am working on. Pretty much cleaned house a few items in the sellers store...I hope he won't mind. That being said what is the most any of you have spent on a single order? Just want to see if I'm the only crazy person when it comes to placing Bricklink orders.

Looking to do £400 this week, slightly off but is there a quick way of searching for a set number of parts/colours?
  • Lego_Nerd98Lego_Nerd98 Member Posts: 235
I'm surprised one store had $700 worth of parts you wanted! I always have a hard time finding all the parts I need at one store. The most I have ever spent at one store was only $15 (excluding s&h), but I purchased about the same amount from 5 other stores at the same time.

I've had several £500+ orders, which is easy to do when you're buying from bulk sellers and need 10k pieces.

The highest single order that I have placed was for US$34.54, which contained a couple of 3876 Minifig, Shield Round with Stud pieces and other parts, but I did place orders for the following amounts in one go:

    EUR 11.62
    EUR 10.90
    EUR 11.29
    US $10.18
    US $30.67
    EUR 12.13
    GBP 9.46
    GBP 4.90
    US $9.65
    GBP 17.63
    US $15.05

That was to create the following sets, plus a load of additional items as well:

    #891 Two Seater Space Scooter
    #920 Rocket Launch Pad
    #6841 Mineral Detector

Original Space minifigs, crater baseplates, printed slopes and blue Tail 4 x 2 x 2 elements bumped the cost up somewhat, but still much less that you three!

A little over a year ago I spent a little over $300 for the 10173 Holiday Train. Unfortunately it was missing the minifigs but I knew that going in, it was the cheapest complete train I could find.

When people have ordered that much, how long did it take to arrive. Having to count that many pieces, phew!
My best is about $100 at a guess, it doesn't keep orders around for long enough to check.
  • mldj77mldj77 Member Posts: 63
I think I've spent at least $400 in a single store for part orders, but in the thousands from several sellers to complete a MOC. The length of time to arrive varies from store to store. Some are on the money and ship in a few days, while others have needed some nudging to get on the ball.

Back in June I spent about £550 in one day on Bricklink (not including postage), but that was from 10 different sellers. The most I've ever spent with one seller is only about £165.

I tend to find when ordering large quantities of parts that even if one particular part is only 1p cheaper with a different seller, if you're ordering 500 of them then it will be cheaper to get it from them, even when you take into account the additional postage costs that result from ordering from a second seller.

@MattsWhat I guess I will find out. Although I cleaned out a lot of his inventory so no counting will be required.

@Lego_Nerd98 It was more around $670. Most of the parts were bricks and plates. Large plates at that, and we all know those are not that cheap.

I rarely do more than £50, as I also tend to split them.

I usually spend around $80, I tend to look for a shop where I can find at least that much to buy (maybe including a set), but my most recent was the lowest at $54.

I don't think I have spent more than £75 a time on brick link as I tended to be looking for specific parts, although if I found a seller with only 1 type of  part I would make up the order with a range of useful bricks that I can use in the future to keep the price per piece down.

I think my high limit was around $65.00.  Lots of orange, red and white plates.  And a bunch of grey 16x32 baseplates...

Yep, baseplates especially are tough on the budget. I wish LEGO was still making road baseplates; I could use more of those.

^ Frankly, I think it's the single biggest rip-off.  $14.99 for two baseplates is just ridiculous.

(I'm a big of a Lego fan as anyone, but the price-point really sticks in my craw.  I'd like to think there is a production reason for the plates being so pricey!)

And the funny thing is, the cars barely fit on the road at the width they're at now.  So maybe it's a problem with cars getting too big?

The mold size is significantly bigger for baseplates so that could be part of their justification.  But $14.99 is actually now cheaper than 2 baseplates since they raised the price on them.

Haven't touched ISD's level for a single order but I don't even want to know what my six-month BL price tag is! It included one order for "some" mono rail straight track and you know how much those go for.

Geez, you should work for Lego's marketing department.  $14.99 for a 48x48 is a rip-off, and $14.99 for two 32x32 road plates is a rip-off.  And by 'rip-off', I mean 'quite pricey'.

I know!  I now have 8 (or 10) four-way plates that you can't use to build on.  The packs would be much better if they came with three sections - two straight and one four-way.

Couldn't use any older plates because they are too narrow.  In fact, the straight plates don't fit the JW Jeep - which I would consider closer to scale.

The most I've spent in one BrickLink "session" is about £500UK (~$800US), but that was split across 4 stores, since I couldn't get everything I needed from one store. The most I've spent in a single order with a single store is around £200UK (~$320US) iirc.

I have you all beat...I think the most I've ever spent was about $20... haha. I'm too frugal to ever go all in, like I should. Hmm, then I wonder why my MOCs are never finished...

I think the highest value BL order I've ever placed with a single seller was about £100 - which is perhaps extraordinary since it's rare that I spend more than £10 with a seller at a time. I'm more little and often when it comes to BL.

There's no way I could justify a £100 BL order nowadays, even if a single store had everything I needed. But usually, my orders for a project have to be split across 5 or 6 stores (especially when it's a BL'ing sets project with stupidly rare parts), that often actually works out cheaper than those few stores that often have everything I'm looking for. Sometimes their prices are almost like "saw you coming"... and not in a pocket friendly way!

Pretty much about £300 all in (a few smaller orders were needed), I had around 1/3 of the parts already - really common bits like the basic bricks and some of the larger wing bits.

It is about 99% bona-fide, including the rare bits like the dark red plate on the bottom, the grey mast pieces, the printed radar piece etc. I made do with the #7965 set of minifigs and light grey antenna pieces in LBG antenna bases and some newer rods that are a tiny bit shorter than the ones that came with #10179 as they are no longer made in the prescribed length.

$255 for 1x1 plates for my mosaics. That was around 5000 Pearl gold pieces.

I think I might have to find a new project.

Wow you guys have really spent a ton of money on Bricklink! If you don't mind my asking, what sorts of MOCS were you doing that required 100s of dollars of parts?

The most I've ever spent was around $35-$50 per order for a few orders within a few weeks... All 5 x 5 foliage pieces in dark orange and dark purple... Which I've been planning to use for MOCs and I still haven't yet. >_<

The thing is, @matticus_bricks, I never order *only* what I need. If I need 10 of a common part - say, for example, a 2x3 black plate - I won't just order 10, because I might need more at some point. If I order 10 and use them, I'll then need to order more the next time I want to use that element. So I'll order 20, or 30, or 50, so that I have plenty in reserve.

So what may in theory be a small order, becomes a large order if you buy more of most elements than you actually need. But that's ok, because it can save you having to order those items in the future, and it helps build a collection of parts.

I haven't pushed the checkout button yet (and probably won't be able to make myself), so it doesn't qualify for the competition yet ;)

My total, once complete might be over that. I'm about half way there to his price point with still more parts to buy.

^^ May we ask what all those thousands of ordered bricks are for? You must be either stocking a shop or working on one huge MOC. I'm not going to add them all up, but there must be nearly a quarter of a million parts there.

In the US, we are lucky - no import fees. Of course we make it up with other taxes.  And I apologize to little Timmy for depleting the EU of Lego parts.  :)

We do large commissioned projects and make our own sets as well.  So I kind of cheated in answering the OP's question because this is all purchased as part of the business, not my personal building.  But still fun to go on shopping sprees.  My record is 80 BL orders placed with different stores on the same day.

You can check out our stuff at http://www.constructibles.net/

Many of the stores in the U.S. (at least the ones with good prices) have very little variety. I wish the bigger stores had better prices; I personally don't like to buy from EU stores (shipping goes through the roof).

Maybe not got rich, but a profit is easy. I often sell to sellers on BL. I make a profit, they make a profit.
