Looks pretty good. Just hope everything is printed as stickers are my nemesis.

The use of window frames with blue windows is a nice touch.

I'm pretty sure they are printed. There are no seams around the edges of the designs to indicate stickers. Looks really good!

Not sure about the "Public Call" being split though. Doesn't look very good to my eye. Still excited about the set/range though.

Ah. Of course, the front opens so it has to be split. *Facepalm*

Having just had a cursory glance, i'd say the Matt Smith minifig looks to be absolutely top notch. The others i'm less struck by.

I suppose they have to do the most recent incarnation, but I would personally have preferred to (also) see either William Hartnell (the original Doctor), and/or Tom Baker (which i understand - though may be wrong - is still the longest serving, most widely recognised, and usually considered/voted the most popular Doc in the franchise).

Those two included would, i'd hazard, send an already anticipated set stratospheric.

Saying that, I wouldn't have been averse to a Karen Gillan fig, but that has nothing to do with any added sales potential, wider public appeal or historic significance, but everything to do with long red hair and a scots accent. ;oP

Tom Baker should have been in the dimensions set.

@legomatt - I think David Tennant tends to be the most popular with fans of the show, but Tom Baker is probably the most recognisable. Obviously children are likely to be most familiar with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi so their selection makes logical sense, but I would have preferred David Tennant.

The set itself looks great to me and I can't wait to get it!

^ :o)  Yep, we all have our faves. Set does looks nice, though edging on the pricey side for me given its lack of any iconic (previous gen) Doctor(s). So i'm likey to give it a miss.

Which makes me wonder how much of a sticking point the choice of Docs might be for attracting a wider untapped market into lego with the set. It'll still likely sell out regardless, of course, but I'm less sure it'll attract much 'new money' into lego in quite the way an additional older Doc might have.

@SMC agree 100%, Tom Baker would've made a perfect choice for a lone add-on with K-9. I'll be surprised if they don't add him later.

Tom Baker is my favorite.....but I like what we are getting and I bet there is more down the road......also like the fact that the Doctor from Dimensions is different than the 12th Doctor here.

I suppose you could just put long brown legs on a Good Morning Bilbo Baggins?

Frankly, I think the head on Bilbo looks more like Tom Baker than the custom figure on the left...

Dr. Who is one of those things that is just invisible to me, I know it's there, but just cant see it. Cool enough looking set, but no intention of buying.

Lego Ideas should change their name to Lego Popculture Ideas.

The wife and I are for sure excited for this kit! Going with Matt Smith isn't a bad choice, but the wife and I are bigger fans when David Tennant was the Doctor. Who knows, Maybe David Tennant, Tyler Rose, and the Ood would be another set. Ooh, if they introduce the master, which regeneration would they choose?

    I digress. :)

The console room design is specific to the 11th & 12th Doctor's (although the time rota is orange for the 12th) so you could not have the 9th, 10th or any other Doctor with the set really. The 10th and War Doctor made a brief visit in the 50th anniversary special but they were not keen on the redecoration . . . . . . . . . .

    It it needs more round things . . . . . . . . .

The timing is perfect ... For resellers. There will be just enough time to buy and flip for Christmas. There is going to be a lot of disappointment again, with parents being "forced" to pay reseller prices if Lego handle stock like they handled RI and exosuit.

^Yes, could easily be a sellout. Do we know if it's a general release like Ghostbusters and WallE yet? Things might not be so bad then.

If it's an [email protected] exclusive like RI and Exosuit there could be trouble. Surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to limit it so. Aren't the Dimensions sets available everywhere?

About all this selling out in minutes, yes maybe for you to get it in time for Christmas but even then look how many TBBT sets Lego had ready to sell. RI and Exosuit went on sale the only real limited ideas set we have seen since the very early days was the Mars Rover.

The window frames used in the video look like a completely different 'dark blue' to the other dark blue pieces. Is this intentional or, more probably, another example of poor QC?

  • playwellplaywell UKMember Posts: 2,233
Any hope that its just a pre production set?
    VBaskin2008
  • playwellplaywell UKMember Posts: 2,233

So looking into this there is only one blue colour used for the tardis:

    So the options are:

    1. These are not the final parts we are seeing in the video, they could have been given the built set figures and box separately and this is not a boxed set that has been open and built for the video.

    2. That this is another sign of poor quality control and colour matching.

Yeah the rendered image definitely has the same dark blue used across the model, so hopefully the one in the video isn't a production version of the set. If it is, that's going to be very noticeable.

Exosuit was not limited, at least judging by the many left on LEGOs site to have to discount them. RI was, but that is because it seems like LEGO think that anything with females in it not named 'Friends' will not sell many copies. The Ghostbusters set was released and was fairly hard to find here in the US for a time if I am remembering correctly.

I do think Doctor Who sets will be sought after but I do not think the demand will be high in the US compared to the UK (RI got a lot of press in the news here in the US, at least more than the typical LEGO set). So I see many many folks trying to get people in the US to buy them or buy them on eBay and ship them oversees if this is out before Christmas (and sold out before Christmas)

^ That's what I said 'RI and Exosuit went on sale' as in discounted although oddly in the case of RI as it both went on sale and seemed hard to find. But I think its clear Lego make way more of the license sets then they do for the non-licensed ones and they sell them for a longer too. I am hoping the who set will end up in other shops so that I can find a way to get a discount. Given that I also want K9 and a couple of cybermen finding the dimension sets at a good price might be more important, then again maybe we will set more sets down the line but 'Who' knows.

There's a shortage of Wall-E's here in Malaysia, and the shops don't seem to be getting them. However, TBBT's and Birds are absolutely everywhere. So unthemed sets are not necessarily produced in lower quantities and themed sets aren't necessarily produced in larger quantities; some just happen to be more popular than the others.

Will definitely be getting this. Those minifig Daleks look great! It's also the first time I've seen flick missiles used in a decent way.

I like the look of the handrails to either side of the staircase as well - the mech arm and clip at an angle is a cool little combo.

Can anyone help me with Capaldi's hairpiece: is that a new mould created for Dimensions? I can't see it on BrickLink in any other colours.

I was under the impression it was a new mould for dimensions, possibly the same mould for the new brown hairpiece in the ghostbusters level pack http://brickset.com/sets/71228-1/Level-Pack-Ghostbusters
