This isn't 2016-related, but ReBrick has a pretty cool interview with LEGO Ninjago designer Nicolaas Vás (Brickthing), who designed set #70734 Master Wu Dragon. It's got some cool details on how the set was developed, including pics of some of the sketch models that led up to the final design

Master Wu Dragon is one of my favorite sets from this year's Ninjago lineup, and it's cool to see some background on its design (and read that yes, Nick was motivated in part by the desire to include a lot of sweet parts that MOCists like himself would appreciate). :)

Talking about the new ninjago dragons, does anyone have any issues with them all using the creature foot piece? eg: http://brickset.com/parts/6108814

Specifically how to connect it to lego plates or bricks (it doesn't!).

I have no problem with it, to be honest. The older Ninjago dragons generally used this foot, which was way too mechanical for what it was being used for. I like the newer, smoother feet a lot better.

Attaching LEGO dragons to LEGO plates and bricks has never been a real concern of mine, to be honest, so long as the dragons can support their own weight.

@Aanchir Ok, I've not seen the feet of the older dragons, I was just comparing the new ones I do have with #31032, which has a brick build rear foot, which allows it to be connected to other lego pieces.

Or is it possible to connect the new foot and I'm just being silly?

The new feet have no anti-studs on the bottom. But if you really wanted you could definitely attach some parts like 11458 to the pin or axle holes on the back to add some. On the larger creature feet used for the feet of the Nindroid MechDragon and the back feet of the Titanium Dragon, it wouldn't even have to make the "footprint" any bigger, due to there being a gap in the center of the foot.

Part of my reason for not particularly caring personally is that having the feet securely attached to a base could end up limiting the number of poses you could put the dragon in, since you'd need whatever feet are on the ground to be evenly spaced and at a fairly specific angle. One of the benefits of feet that are attached via ball joints is that you can rotate them freely to so many different angles. So for display purposes, I feel like there's more benefit in just having the dragon "resting" on a base than securely attached to it.

I suppose having anti-studs on the feet would have some benefits, though, like letting you make a dragon perch on a sloped roof without sliding right off. It'd be cool if there existed a part that was like a 2x2plate or tile with a ball cup or ball snap molded into the top, instead of all the System parts like 92013 having the ball cup stick off the side horizontally. That would allow for more custom solutions for feet with anti-studs on the bottom that aren't so bulky.

For general building purposes (i.e. for using those creature feet for uses other than as feet), I think the pin and axle holes are satisfactory. Though that might be my background as a Bionicle/constraction builder speaking — System builders might have uses in mind that I couldn't even fathom.

@Aanchir Thank you for the explanation.

I ended up using Part 6562 and 654101.

Is there a specific reason the part isn't "compatible"? I don't know how it is used in the other system (bionicle & buildable figs). I was just suprised they didn't connect.

Article over on ToyNews that's mostly about Nexo but had an interesting line regarding Ninjago
"We’re building on the success of our established evergreen propositions such as LEGO Ninjago "
Didn't realise Ninjago was now evergreen.

Ninjago is a real cash cow for LEGO and not just from the little plastic Bricks. I can't see it going anywhere for foreseeable future.

Mainly just because it's originally a Technic/constraction part, so System connections like studs and anti-studs are not a priority. Most Bionicle and Hero Factory sets' feet lack anti-stud connections on the bottom (except in the form of vertical Technic pinholes on some of the ones that don't have built-in ball cups).

And yeah, Ninjago became an evergreen theme this year. It was mentioned in one of the "LEGO Life" magazines for employees this year as well as the company's interim result.

I'm in the process of adding more population to my ninjago world ready for the arrival of the temple of airjitsu. What do people think of this for a custom Dr Julien (Zane's father to the unitiated). It's all lego parts, no customisation at all. Sorry for the inept photo, I'm just doing it on my phone for ease. Let me know if you want to know parts.

Parts without numbers although I can add them if needed:
Legs are from JW Dr Wu. In his poly and 75919. This is the hard part to get, everything else is in stock on B&P I think.
Body is from a Dr something in ultra agents. It's in two sets but I don't remember which. Truth be told is has a logo on the back which is wrong but he will have to face outwards.
Head is from the judge cmf. Only grey eyebrows glasses face that's even close as far as I could find.
Hair is in several but to find the part number it appears in 21103.
Crow is from Tonto head piece in the lone ranger sets.

I just read what I wrote and there is a bit of a fib in the middle - the judge head is not available on B&P obviously.  It would be better with a smile and black rather than silver frames, ah well.
The legs I picked up on bricklink - I got lucky, they have only appeared three times but aren't particularly expensive, but they are the perfect legs, the only real issue is he doesn't wear his lab coat that wide (as per picture).  Good luck to anyone else trying!

HothBricks has finalized 2016 Ninjago pictures from Amazon.fr! One set, #70601 Sky Shark, is missing.

I think #70602 Jay's Elemental Dragon is easily one of the standout sets from this wave. It's no #70734, but it's still a quite attractive model. #70604 Tiger Widow Island is a very nice location-based set (love that palm tree!), and #70605 is probably one of the most imposing enemy vehicles the theme has had!

I like the archway in 10725. It looks  printed. An affordable set to acquire a bunch of them for a MOC.

The new pirate swords look pretty cool.

You always have great news about Ninjago Aanchir. :)

Those look great. So I'm seeing that the main Ninja has two new costumes/suits? I was comparing Zane's suit between 70603 and 70604. Also, is the Lost Temple supposed to be the Airjitzu temple grounds? I thought there was a set with "Airjitzu" in it. Was hoping it was an expansion of the Temple of Airjitzu. Oh well.

I don't think that is the Temple Grounds at all, as the Lost Temple is a Juniors set with number #10725, while Airjitzu Temple Grounds is #70590.

Yep. Airjitzu Temple Grounds and most of the other 2016 Ninjago sets in the Brickset database that we have yet to see pics for are presumably summer/2HY sets.

Nope. It was a stand-alone release, same as the 2009 Pirates wave (and in some cases, much better — #70411 is a way better set than #6241, and I say that having owned the latter).

This Ninjago wave does borrow some parts from the Pirates sets (like the faces of the three human pirates), but the sets would have been in development before the 2015 Pirates sets were even available. LEGO tends to start development of new sets at least 18 months in advance.

Fair enough.  Looks like I'll be merging my pirate stuff with Ninjago then.  Hopefully the 2015 pirate stuff will continue to plummet at TRU.

So, I thought I was excited about the Super Heroes news from Toy Fair, but Lloyds NRG dragon sounds amazing.  I really hope it is an NRG version of the minifigure.  I like having complete sets and the gold ninja just doesn't cut it with the other NRG forms.  Fingers crossed.

The movie was delayed until next fall, so presumably we won't have sets that tie in with the movie until then either.

The summer sets sound good but I am very disappointed that they are recycling the villains. I already have a ton of the Nindroids, Skulkin, Serpentine, etc. And in the US we haven't even seen the Skybound sets, so why would they already recycle those?

This wave almost feels like the last minute, thrown together Nindroid wave. Maybe they wanted to give new fans access to older villains for some reason?

The new season had nindroids in white so hopefully we will get a couple of those.  I would really like a normal human Cyrus Borg who also appears in the new season.
