Is it just me or does it seem like to get the main characters you must by the bigger sets. The small sets seem to just come with generic knights. This is different than the Chima and Ninjago model. Also it does not seem to fit the game model for these either. That I am okay with.
I also noticed that the smaller sets seem to come with generic characters. But rather than just pushing people to buy the larger sets to get the main characters, another reason for this was probably to make "army building" easier. If you had to buy the larger sets to get generic footsoldiers, most people wouldn't care enough to buy multiples of these sets. But by putting the generic characters in the smaller sets, it becomes quite easy to assemble an army to support the main characters.

I guess that could be the case if they came in bigger sets as well, but you only find them in small sets and can only buy them one by one.

The front "lava" pieces on this are interesting. I don't think LEGO has done anything like that before.

Looks like the front of this breaks off into two motorcycles like a lot of Chima had.
This makes me wish LEGO had done a Voltronesque theme. I can so picture a giant robot picking up the middle of this and using it as a sword.

Im still not sure how I feel about this particular theme. Some of the builds seem cool and interesting but I have to wonder how long the theme will last.

Even if it only has a two-year run, that'll free up some TLG creative resources to do another WV re-issue.

Or come up with another completely different theme... Pirate Dinosaur Hunters?  Asian Space Cowboys?  Time Travelling Robots?

Someone should create a "Random Lego Theme" generator and see what gets spit out.  I would have put some money on 'anthropomorphic animal clans".

^ Just don't expect SteamPunk, because reasons... Yeah, ok, sci-fi knights with a mobile castle on caterpillar tracks, kids will understand, but not SteamPunk? Sure...

Do you mean the black and trans red pieces on the hammer like parts? They are an existing part that's been printed. Definitely a nice effect and more parts like could be very useful.

LMAFO, @plasmodium, that is hilarious. Doesn't everyone just want to know what Racing Sith Shark or Starfighter Red Bird Archer would look like as sets? I know all of those who hated Jar-Jar would want a Gungan Predator... :D

aesthetics mean a lot to me! nexo knights just doesnt get it! showed the pictures to my little nephew (4yo), who is a fan of ninjago, castle, pirates and bionicle, he likes them a lot tough! its too much colors in one set for my taste!

why not let waka design a whole theme? why no steampunk?

Don't forget the "Ultimate" sets (70330 Ultimate Clay, 70331 Ultimate Macy, etc.). We haven't seen pictures of them, but they've been described as ~$10 sets featuring one fig along with weapons and accessories that can be attached to the figs. Those will probably serve as cheap and easy ways to pick up main characters, like the Ninjago spinners or Legends of Chima Speedorz.

It's an absolutely ancient little thing, I've had it bookmarked for years now. I go back to it every now and then when I am in need of a little giggle. No idea who wrote/owns the code behind it, but I'm sure someone with a little coding knowledge could re-write it to add some extra names/themes.

    @Roberto
True! the 2010/11/12 Kingdoms Theme was epic, and it was the theme that lured me out of my dark-age and into AFOLdom (does this word even exist?!).

I am not opposed to this new NexoKnights theme, and can see why this may very well become a big hit with kids, and may even appeal to sceptic AFOL's later on. Also I like the blend of scifi with knighthood (when it is executed well), but indeed this is not a new 'classic evergreen' castle theme, nor is it a successor to LOTR/Hobbit Lego, another theme that ended way too soon.

Personally I was hoping for a new Kingdoms/Castle Fantasy Era type medieval theme, but we shall see once this theme enters the market how it does and what TLG holds in store for all Lego fans. At least the plethora of castle helmets, and other related minifig and medieval items that are part of Nexo Knights may be a nice addition to my Lego Castle collection. I saw plenty of Lego elements that in one way or another are interesting, in case I do not feel drawn to the theme in its totality.

besides I caught the SW bug big time, so I might have to skip this theme anyway, as I can not afford nor have the room to buy and collect everything.

This theme continues to give me the Lego Universe Vibes. And that is not a bad thing, one of the major dissapointing factors to me about Lego Universe was that there were no sets and supporting minifigures. With the normal figures and the Ultimate Figures, it gives that feel of the cool figures we missed out on.

    The sets are not bad.

Read that article this morning. To a typical reader I could see the hype being a bit confusing though. Nexo Knights definitely isn't the first theme to exist in all these types of media. The thing that sets it apart is that the app is designed to interface with and tie together all of the theme's other facets — so you can scan shields from the sets, the TV show, the books, the website, etc. That's what they mean by "unique Nexo powers across all IP touch points".

Despite this scanning decorations and not actual bricks like LEGO Fusion or Life of George, I can see this catching on a lot more easily. Definitely a lot more convenient than having to manually input a code like you did with some of the old Hero Factory online games and apps, if it works as well as advertised (which, on today's smartphones and tablets, it probably will).

There's a nice video interview with some of the creators here, though it's very long. Gives some more insights into the story and development process.

I'm liking the ultimate figures as they explain why the main characters are not available in the smaller sets. I thought they were going to be constructable action figures like the chima ones.

I have no idea what you are talking about!?! Your gamer-score on something I suppose, but what does this have to do with Nexo-Knights?

    Btw.
From what I can tell just from the pictures, this theme looks very promising.

Haha can't wait for ds III. The main villain in this line is a jester. He can be Jester Thomas lol.

I hope we get more darker characters/monsters from this line. Hopefully those ultimate character packs will allow collectors to complete the teams without buying the big sets.

Well, the Ultimate sets seem to have different costumes for the main knights than the rest of the sets do, same as how the Airjitzu and NRG spinner sets from Ninjago have different versions of the ninja than other sets.

Kind of the NRG Ninja minifigures, the Ultimate versions of the knights are wearing entirely colored armor, with their body armor pieces and visors in a transparent version of their main color.

Another nice detail: the Ultimate knights have elaborate "gadgets" attached to their armor. But parts of those gadgets can be swapped out. There's one "mode" for each of the three Nexo Power shields the set comes with. So, for example, Ultimate Clay's got one gadget with spinning blades, but you can swap the spinning blades with spinning flames, or with a radar dish "force field".

From what I've seen their faces look the same. With Ninjago, they have the crazy powered up lighting-out-the-eyes deal. Technically, you'd be completing the team. But yeah, different armor/costume. I'd probably use these as the main team, since their costume has a uniform color. The visors from the other sets are in gray, which looks useful for regular knights.

#70335 Ultimate Lavaria. If I only buy one Nexo Knight set it will be this one. Awesome looking figure with a price I can afford.

I hope they release a cheaper set with Jestro and a cheaper set with Axl. Those are the two characters I'm interested in the most so of course they're in the expensive sets, both of which I don't really like the look of.

best one may be jestro's evil mobile, followed by king's mech. the mecha horse is the biggest surprise, like "what?! it can turn into a motorcycle?!"

Awesome new wallpaper of Macy! I love the little gap in her teeth!

I can't find the landscape version unfortunately... if I could, it might easily take the place of the Nya wallpaper I've got currently. But the "Desktop" link from the downloads page links to itself.

Apologies for double-posting, but I saw the Nexo Knights two-part series premiere on Cartoon Network yesterday, and I've got to say... it was really excellent! Way better than the Legends of Chima series premiere IMO. Lots of action, humor, and heart. There were several laugh-out-loud moments and some very good characterization. So I guess it's high time I start thinking about what sets I'm going to be getting. I've been saying the story would be the deciding factor in whether I collect this theme, and I think that's now been decided.

Also, the Merlok 2.0 app has apparently been released on the App Store in Denmark: https://itunes.apple.com/dk/app/lego-nexo-knights-merlok-2.0/id1007143930?mt=8

One of the screenshots really caught my interest. Take a look at the top row of Nexo Powers in this image. It shouldn't take long to spot what I'm referring to. :D

I have a feeling it will play out similarly to chima, as in jester will be a good guy after season one or two. Not that it's a bad thing. I'm kinda looking forward to who the main baddy will be after that lol.

The app was supposed to get a wider release today according to Samuel Johnson on Twitter, but it hasn't happened yet. Might be at midnight or something like that.

In the instructions they even show a Nexo knight lunch box and you can scan power ups from it.

Also, I wonder if Clay's a descendant of the black falcon knight from set 10223.

Yeah, sorry about that... the videos are region-locked. LEGO has been posting them for a lot of countries on their YouTube channel today but it doesn't look like they've gotten around to Switzerland just yet. :/ Here's their channel if you want to keep an eye on it for when they upload them.

I have to say some of the parts feel a bit cheaper. The visor piece for the Claybots in 70315 are a soft rubbery plastic and had flash moulding on it. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case before.

The material of a part changing rarely ever has anything to do with cost-cutting. More likely, the change in material would be due to the original part's fragility—I've definitely had more than one of those visors break in my many years as a Lego fan.
