Rebels is looking really good, again...

I'd like to give this 10 thumbs up!!!!

Only watched the pilot episode of rebels so far but judging by what I have seen before and the new trailer I think I will has to invest a bit more time catching up with the show. Will give me something to keep me entertained until rogue one comes out next year.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
agree about Rebels.  I found the season 1.1 to be mostly way too kid-centric and "cartoonish" in it's like of realism and silliness.  But 1.2 was a significant improvement on all fronts, and 2.1 just umped the game even further.  this show is really coming into its own.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110

But early criticism would be the voices of Vader, Yoda and Leia. A bit light and stiff compared to the real deals. And Vader's saber looks so skinny compared to the movie versions.
Vader's *IS* the real deal.  JEJ voiced him for Rebels. Agree it sounded a bit off though, and just found this:

I quit on the show about 5 or 6 episodes in. But after season 1 wrapped I went back and watched the rest of the episodes - well worth it.  the series has improved substantially.

Unfortunately, season 1 seems to no longer be available to watch as of about 1 week ago, but if you can find it I recommend starting with episode 6 or 7 if you can't stomach the first 5.  You won't really miss anything of substance

@dougts ah didn't realize it was really 'the' Vader doing the voice. Most impressive. Will have to go back and watch that one episode again where they crashed a big 'ol AT-DP right on Darth only to see him rise from the ashes.

Kind of off topic, but has anyone come up with, or know of a good way to modify the cockpit on the Millennium Falcon?  Any of the models I suppose; I'm looking to purchase one of the Falcon sets, but I also want to be able to modify the cockpit a little bit, and maybe squeeze one more figure inside as they all seem to barely be able to hold 2.  Granted I know it might be challenging without throwing the scale out of wack.

    ^ Scale?

I think you mean keeping the set proportional.

Photos of the new 2016 Advent Calendar have surfaced.....

They're on a well known site, which has close links to the first Episode V environment!

It includes a Bespin Guard, and a silver-chrome protocol droid (possibly E-3PO?)

Why keeps everybody sayin that it comes with a Chrome Droid?! On the pics it´s clearly grey/flat silver!

There's also pictures of some of the sets and it looks like the x-wing is GREY :( What a shame!
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
I may be wrong (it's difficult to determine what some of the mini models are), but it looks like the advent calendar has nothing from TFA. If that's the case, I'm extremely surprised. I expected it to be dominated by it. Stay-Puft Chewie is interesting but tells me they're beginning to reach for these things.

Though I realize it's not based on the OT version, that A-wing looks messy. I do like the Jakku set; it's pushing me closer to collecting TFA stuff. I think the Luggabeast would've looked better in brown, but the blue does add some much-needed color to the set.

I've haven't found any close ups of it, but I'm totally convinced either way at the moment.  It may be the lighting, but the top of the head and arms look slightly lighter than the rest, which may mean that it's nice and shiny!

And @legomatt it's good to see you back :-)

Look for a French Star Wars website with a name that's based on the snowy planet from Episode V where the Rebels get flattened by the Empire!

1.) Wish I would have known an x-wing in normal Resistance colors was going to happen so soon.  I probably would have held off on the Poe's Halloween special. I will get it as soon as I can find it at a decent price.

2.) Tie Advanced Vs. Y-Wing has me drooling, but I'm mostly interested in the Tie itself and will wait until enough of them are parted out on eBay.

3.) Encounter on Jakku looks really cool and I want to get a closer look at the luggabeast.  It reminds me a lot of Battle on Takodana though and will probably be way too much $$$ for what it is.

4.) Calendar looks great too but they are a horrible value imo, so I will probably pass on it as well. Just way too much to buy this year with all the great Creator 3in1, Marvel, and Star Wars sets.

Why are people so cryptic about this French (Star Wars) Lego blog/site? Does @Huw (still) have a beef with them, and is it therefore somehow considered a taboo to mention the word/name Hoth bricks here on this forum as a consequence?

Or is it because 'they' take a different approach to publishing photo's then Huw and all other Brickset writers here do. That is to say; 'they' perhaps don't really give a toss if TLG indicates that they don't want pictures of certain yet to be released sets being out on the web, and just post them anyway, either because these pics are already floating around on the web, or 'they' perhaps publish them themselves without consent of TLG, because unlike Huw, 'they' do not foster or care to foster some kind of special relationship with the company whose products 'they' are a fan of and have dedicated their website to!?! Anyone know the answer to these questions?

    B.t.w.
Vader's Tie vs A-wing fighter looks like such an epic set! It might be the most desired 2016 SW of the whole bunch, if you ask me.

    ps.
Are 'they' sometimes forced to take the pics down they post as a consequence of doing so without consent when TLG stipulates these are not yet to be published?
I don't visit them that often, so I don't know if this is the case or not.

^ Unfortunately I don't think the NHS fund those... but then...

    *wonders*

    ...has anybody ever actually asked?

"...Honestly doctor, i think a sexy party will do me the world of good, yes on a giant luxury yacht... obviously with poker tables and free bar... about a 6-month cruise, i mean course, should do...".

Oh no, sir, far too crude. For I am an English Gentleman.
Mine would be of the comedic innocence of a 'Carry On' romp or Benny Hill stylee chase sequence.

So would of course have to be 'The Farce Awakens'.

    Thanks @drdavewatford , everyone else - discuss:

LEGO Assault on Hoth™ Base will challenge even the most skilled fan builders.

Experienced builders can recreate the Rebel Force’s Echo Base from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back in an unbelievably detailed recreation of one of the most iconic scenes in the original Star Wars trilogy. The 2144-piece building set inspires fans to build their own scouting missions with the Snowspeeder, armed with twin spring-loaded shooters, and get back to base on the speeder bike to help Luke, Han and the other Rebel heroes. The modular design enables fans to customize their Rebel base configuration, including a Wampa cave and Wampa figure.

The set features LEGO minifigure versions of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Toryn Farr, Wes Janson, Wedge Antilles, K-3PO, and more. Available May 1st for $249.99.

I like the sounds of a modular base, minifigs sound nice. Don't think the spring loaded shooters can put me off this one.  How challenging can the build really be though? It sounds interesting, a play set with shooters aimed at only the most skilled builders.. hmmm.

Doesn't sound like we'll be getting anything new or impressive with this set. Just a bunch of rehashed existing sets from years past combined together.

The LEGO Hoth sets have been rehashed again and again, and never seemed to be big sellers. Really surprised they are doing a $250 set with Hoth -- a ton of white bricks. I imagine they could have done an amazing Cloud City set for $250.

Were Speeder Bikes in the movie?  LEGO keeps making them in Hoth sets, but I don't remember seeing them.

That was largely my impression from the press release, too. So am now interested to see how substantial any new build will be, with hopes not being as high as they were previously given they've included another snow speeder, oh and a (not appearing in the movie) speeder bike, both of which ring the old alarm bells that they've come up short on the base and thrown anything in.

And if it is mostly reworked reissues then it's going to have its work cut out justifying the £200 price tag, as we'll be able to make direct, and fairly recent, comparisons with those various smaller sets combined together, all of which were widely available at sizable discounts due to being regular release sets - which this will not be.

With that said, it's still sight unseen, so my fingers remain firmly crossed for something impressive, but with the growing feeling that a 'meh' of slight disappointment might be on the cards.

No. But Lego even had me convinced for a short period that one appears, albeit briefly, in a single sequence. Then I eventually re-watched the movie, specifically looking for it.

It was all a LIE! A LIE, i tells ya'! Curses LEGO, those pieces could've gone towards an exploding gun emplacement, an extra minifig, or an imperial probe droid... y'know, something actually in the scene?

Supremely disappointed by the news. It's almost literally a Hoth Greatest Hits. I'd at least thought there would more on the inside of the base, control room etc. Hopefully there is more to it than what we already now. I would have loved a new Cloud City though.

  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,309

The modular design makes me think they know you need to buy two to make the base a good size because they used too many parts in the Wampa cave and Snowspeeder.
