It is said that the Guardians of the Galaxy will join the Resistance. Didn't you see the Milano next to the MF in the trailer?

That's ok then. I didn't realise we'd just need a couple of lines of exposition to make everything right again for the resistance.

It’s all we’ve gotten before each film. I just accept that it’s part of the narrative process for the series.

^ Except Rogue One and Solo of course.

I booked my family’s tickets for Saturday 21st December, I think I can miss spoilers for that long as it’s only 2 days. Intriguing trailer - I’ve tried to freeze it on that section showing Rey standing in a sandy coloured open floor space trying to see what or who is in front of her and I have my suspicions, but no clear confirmations.

Is that water planet Kamino in the trailer? So maybe Ol' Palpy cloned his wrinkled self and that is how he is returning?

My suspicion is still on "evil force ghost" for how Palpatine ends up making an appearance. Between the the general aesthetic of the ruined Death Star in the trailers, the conspicuously empty throne and echo-y voiceovers in the new trailer, and the jingly horror-movie-esque soundtrack used in the new trailer, the overall vibe I'm getting can be summed up by this classic tweet:

Mind you, I haven't read any analyses of the trailer from other sites since I'd prefer not to have anything spoiled that I wasn't expected/intended to notice, so it's possible that some of the other theories like time travel, cloning, etc. might have more evidence supporting them. I'll find out soon enough once the movie's out!

    That sounds incredibly plausible.

Ghost Palpatine needs a living vessel to occupy to fully become himself again, cloning takes about half real time e.g. it takes 25 years (is that the supposed gap between ROTJ and Ep9?) to make a 50 year old palpatine clone.

Palpatine was the best thing about the prequel Trilogy, and Ep3 especially - I'd be happy to see him back.

You can see Palpatine from the side/back on the trailer, sitting on a (flying?) chair. Doesn't seem a Force ghost, at least not like those of Obi-Wan, Yoda, Anakin, ...

Traditionally, members of the Sith are unable to become Force Spirits, as previously understood, because they cannot achieve genuine immortality through the Dark Side. However, they can potentially haunt specific locations, as demonstrated during Star Wars: The Clone Wars when Yoda encounters a vision of Darth Bane on the Sith homeworld of Moraband. The precise reality of that situation is unclear but I think it suggests that haunting locations is possible for Sith.

I am hoping that Palpatine has not been resurrected through cloning because that might open the floodgates to cloning any deceased character in future stories which caused difficulties within Legends continuity. Personally, I would be satisfied if he were simply haunting the Death Star II wreckage, although that now seems quite unlikely.

My personal theory for the rough content of the movie, without having seen any leaks, is shown beneath the following spoiler tab:

I think the movie begins with the Resistance on the Forest Moon of Endor, or perhaps Yavin IV, while the First Order is consolidating control of the galaxy. Additional forces have joined the Resistance since The Last Jedi, including Lando Calrissian.

Both factions are drawn to the Death Star II wreckage by an unknown signal, or perhaps the Force. Rey and Kylo Ren meet again at this wreckage and the lightsaber duel shown during trailers takes place. They encounter the spirit of Emperor Palpatine together and their presence somehow allows him to escape to the Unknown Regions, where an entire fleet has been in storage since the Galactic Civil War.

Members of the Resistance travel to Kijimi where Babu Frik restores C-3PO's memories, enabling them to learn more about Palpatine during the Prequel Trilogy era. They must then recover an artefact, perhaps the blue object shown in the most recent trailer, from the planet Pasaana and encounter the First Order again. The factions agree to unite and destroy Palpatine, with a particular focus upon Rey and Kylo Ren working together.

Against the combined forces of the Resistance and the First Order, Palpatine and his Sith armada is finally defeated.

Also, the oceanic location has been identified. I will not post that information here, in case anyone considers that a spoiler, but here is a link to the Wookieepedia article.

And C3PO is fully golden again. Maybe we'll never know about the red arm?

Edit: I guess this was explained in a comic book... And I didn't remember he was already "normal" in TLJ.
I really need to catch up on previous movies. Fortunately, 8 weekends to go until ep. IX premieres!

^ Red arm was also explained loosely in the Force Awakens TT Game, though in DLC.

I like Rex’s roundup (perhaps we should coin the term) and I suspect some of it may be true, particularly around what’s happening with the droids and the factions in play. Even then there are one or two more locations in play from the trailers to visit. Apparently the film is 2.5 hours so it’ll have to be a fast pace to fit everything in!

The arguments I've read claiming that the winners are too rich (?) are a bit silly. Are we morally obliged to hand out intangible VIP points to the homeless? It would have made at least some sense if the prize was actual money, but that's rarely the case for Lego competitions. The fact is, all of the entrants would have been wealthy enough to drop an Australian grand on a toy in the first place - and display it well. I don't think anyone who can do that is in the position to complain about being poor.

    ^totally agree

Reading through the comments on the main page was an exercise in frustration.  In my experience the forum discussions are more pleasant, better reasoned, more informative, and a helluva lot more funny than the main page comment sections.  More and more I read the articles only and skip the rest...

@The_Rancor - ignore the haters and enjoy your win— you surely deserve it!

Congrats on the win, it really looks the business displayed like that.

I like the fact that on first impressions (I first looked at the pictures on a mobile), it appears that you've displayed it on a mosaic wall of DSG/LBG and White bricks.

    Well done. :)

@The_Rancor Congratulations on the win, it did look great.

I don't see any reason to question the winners but I think questioning a competition with a £650 entry point is fair game. And although you might find the forum more pleasant that might be in part because you hold the same views as most forum members, you might not find it as pleasant if you have a different point of view. The forum can be a bit of a bubble and its interesting how different the views can be on the main page. The two are hardly worlds apart but still have different views, you could say that you have an AFOL bubble and the forum is a bubble within a bubble. Im getting a bit inception now but my point is... I forget, what was I saying?

Maybe I am perfectly content in my bubble sir!  :-)

I see your point about the high price point for participation in the contest, but I guess to me most of those complaining about the winners being the  “rich getting richer” come off as just having sour grapes.  I know that some folks will save their whole Lego budget for a period of time towards a big ticket item like #75192 and then have to abstain from purchases for quite a while after.  I hardly think they deserve scorn for their style of collecting.

My bigger concern is that when you divorce opinion from community things can devolve quickly.  If one is buying Secret Santa gifts for a fellow member one is more likely to be gracious and restrained in their vitriol.  As for differing points of view, my personal experience has been that forum goers in general tend to be more easy-going and less knee-jerk in their responses.

In any case this is far from the original topic of Star Wars... anyone want to argue about the following: Han shot first, Ewoks are awesome, the prequel trilogy stinks and the sequel trilogy is hardly better, midichlorians are ridiculous, and/or J.J. Abrams saved / killed Star Wars... :-)

I thought the Internet was for objective information sharing, thoughtful and reflective debate, and a forum for International commerce.

Definitely not a place for trolling, complaining, illegal activities and porn.

And cat videos.  (Tried to post Kevin Harlan's hilarious black cat touchdown call from last Monday's NFL game.)

Was talking to a family member this morning and they said they saw a news report that Lego was ending it's licensing agreements with several partners, including Lucasfilm, so that they could concentrate more on their own IP themes. I said that was strange since they just revealed a bunch of sets for next year. Just curious if anyone else had heard that.

That makes no sense, given the new additions like Trolls, Minions, that tv show about cars, etc.
Furthermore, Star Wars is one of LEGO's cash cows. I doubt they would let it drop.

Does this family member like to troll people on the odd occasion? We have a family friend that loves to occasionally troll his own family & us too. Years ago he said he'd seen a news story that Nintendo was selling off Metroid to Sega (back when Sega still made consoles), he also once teased my brother that DC had announced that they were selling Batman to Marvel.

Not at all. But they do have a knack of not fully understanding something, adding some embellishments and then getting the whole thing wrong. All with the best intentions, lol.
