A molded bantha would add a lot of playability for kids and AFOLs would love it too.

Having a set where Anakin kills a ton of other characters in angry slaughter isn't exactly the best idea for a LEGO set.
I'm picturing a whole subtheme around the idea, 16+ of course. Anakin Slaughters Tusken Raiders... Anakin Slaughters Children... Vader Slaughters Rebel Scum...

How's this for an idea? If there's a background bulding/person/creature we want to see a Lego set of, we get Disney to put it front-and-centre in some of their new media. For example, convince Disney to do an episode arc in The Mandalorian about bantha-rustling.

Hello, if you can check out my discussion on the 2019 sets to buy and the Jedi Fallen Order sets (hope they got some good ones as well as the game is good). Ben Hut seemed to call me the attention plus the fact that it looks like a complete SW building that doesn't have open back (like Yoda Hut for example).

I'd like a brick-built bantha, like the dewback in #75228.
  • KaitchKaitch Member Posts: 386
The Microfighter? But what would oppose it? A Luke's Landspeeder Microfighter? Or Anakin's from AotC?

Anakin's borrowed speeder is unlikely, IMO, because as far as I recall that scene has only been partially recreated in Lego once, when AotC first came out. I think Anakin and Padme's trip to Tattooine in AotC has been glossed over a lot, probably because of the slaughter.

(Actually, it would be quite interesting to see a Lego set of the Lars' homestead with Clieeg, young Owen and Beru, Padawan-Anakin, Padme in that blue outfit, gunmetal C-3PO, maybe R2. Could be for the 20th Anniversary of AotC in a few years.)

Luke's Landspeeder has just had a new set announced, and I believe it has seen 11 incarnations so far. So it might not be made into a microfighter as well. That said, there was a Naboo starfighter microfighter released this year, and a polybag, bringing the total number of Naboo starfighters to 11. But then, the Naboo starfighter does fit with the microfighter line very well.

But it would still seem a little odd to get a brick-built bantha microfighter. Yes, the dewback is a precedent, and it's appearance in the films is scarcely more substantial than the bantha, but I think the dewback has appeared more in merchandising, for whatever reason.

Maybe we should just hope someone from TLG trawls this forum to see what AFOLS want.

The A-Wing/TIE Silencer double came with a tool rack, and the Skispeeder/FO Walker came with a gun turret. Escape Pod/Dewback doesn't seem to have an extra installment, but it does have R2 and 3PO in the pod. So maybe the Skyhopper/Bantha will come with a womp rat.

Good Lord that price seems high even for post-Disney Star Wars... hopefully it will be closer to $499 but that may be a pipe dream.

The price per part is likely high due to a high number of giant plates and beams. I wonder if there will be any unique minifigs

I'd expect a bridge build within it, populated with mini figs, hopefully some unique - like Captain Needar with a choked face (even though the choking didn't happen on an ISD).

It will be interesting to see what price point TLG give British customers, considering how poor the pound is right now. What was the conversion for MF? £650 : €800? That would put the ISD at £568 on same conversion factor. In reality, it is likely to be £550 at minimum and £600 max (accounting for the poorer conversion rate since MF came out.

I'd love TLG to offer an introductory discount to black VIP card holders to make up for the lack of promotions when the black card was active. As I haven't got the new Tantive IV yet and it's grand enough for me to consider it worthy of my UCS collection (even the box art is UCS style in all aspects except the actual lettering), I can  wait until I can get ISD at a discount.

Love the way the story is wedged between pictures of #10030 and raskolnikov's behemouth.
Almost like, this is what you had, but this is what you won't be getting.

If they produce minifigures to match everyone below, I may cry a little bit (okay, a lot).

Until then will gladly ignore anything to do with this as wifey might get a little bit miffed if I turn up with another expensive set, especially as I haven't built the last one yet.

Sigh...You just had to mention Raskolnikov’s ISD...I’ve been eyeing it for a loooong time.  My problem with this rumor is that (including parts I already have stocked up) the $699 is almost 2/3 of the way towards BrickLinking his amazing MOC.  Aside from storage/display issues it would be vastly superior to anything Lego could release...

I did have to get a lot of the rarer parts used as some of the parts new are like rocking horse poop.

I remember following @drdavewatford and his blog posts detailing his experience building cavegod’s AT-AT... must have back in 2012-2013 or so.  It looked massive and daunting back then, so I think you will get your money’s worth if you decide to tackle it!

An interesting read, curious though if @drdavewatford still has this built after all this time or if it had to be broken down? Love the look of it and if I ever did try making it I'd know I could never keep it built as it would take up so much room...

A UCS ISD is a much-needed remake. But if it is as big as the UCS Super Star Destroyer set, good heavens, my table/display space will evaporate.

I've read through drdave's blog posts a couple of times and as many of the eurobricks threads as I could find before starting the AT-AT (being able to get hold of instructions was a blessing as working from LDD files for something this big would have driven me scatty).
I did also have a brief chat with drdave about his thoughts on the build and whether he would do it again knowing what he knows now as I was actually swinging between rasko's plus size build and cavegod's biggy.
Ultimately though, after having a sort out and catalogue session of my parts stash, I had a bigger start-up percentage for cavegod's build so just for cost reasons it won out.

The size of it is going to be a major factor in how long my better half lets me keep this one on display as space is on a build one, take one down rota for larger sets.
I must admit that I've found that I get a bigger sense of satisfaction and more enjoyment sourcing parts, filling out multiple spreadsheets and the anticipation build up of finally finishing a project than I get from just taking a set off the shelf to open and plough through (although I do still enjoy that as it's very therapeutic after a crappy week at work).
That's why I decided to take on four project builds at the same time.
I knew it would take me ages to finish them all but with the real life stuff that's been going on this year, working through spreadsheets, combining parts totals and sorting out parts prices has meant that while my bricks have been unavailable, I could still have something Lego related to keep the old grey matter engaged. :)

I'm in this camp also... Bricklinking the parts feels a little like a treasure hunt, plus the anticipation of waiting for orders to come in can be exciting also.  My current projects are Raskolnikov's AT-AT and Inthert's UCS U Wing-- should have pics to post in a day or 2 for that one

Is there a general consensus here among the Star Wars collectors on where I can find instructions (either paid or free) for custom, well thought-out Star Wars microbuilds?
  • BrainsluggedBrainslugged Member Posts: 2,246
@KungFuKenny - That thing is pretty sweet. I assume the wings open?

Loved Rogue One. Not a big fan of the prequel trilogy and increasingly hating the sequel trilogy, but Rogue One feels as much canon as the original movies to me.

I agree completely about Rogue One... in fact I like it more each time I watch it.  Yes, the wings open and there is a mounted gun inside the doors.

    @mattytreks

Are you talking about advent calendar size builds or micro fighters?  Rebrickable has some but they are scattered and of varying qualities.  If you find a good source I would be interested also.
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@mattytreks, @KungFuKenny, if you're after SW Microfighter designs, I have a few I'm preparing PDF instructions for to put them up on Rebrickable soon, I have renders of all my designs on my Flickr.

    @KungFuKenny / @VorpalRyu- thank you both for the questions/feedback.

I’m not referring to micro fighters so much as I am referring to other builds (specifically “scenes”) that are done in micro scale – not unlike what you see here with the 40333 Battle of Hoth set.

I’d love to build some of these smaller-scale scenes and display them in a case that I currently have limited space in :)

There is also a leak of a new GWP (for Force Friday, presumably) in the same vein as the 40333 Battle of Hoth set for the Battle of Endor. Somehow, a green field with a few sparse-looking trees and some tiny AT-STs doesn't look as impressive I thought.

I feel dumb for having caved in and bought the original Kylo Ren shuttle years ago when, after seeing The Force Awakens, quickly realized how Lego botched the set look and design. I still haven't even built the darn thing, and now this improved one comes out! And who would want to buy the old one now, if I try to sell the original to get the new one instead? Fool me once...

None of these new sets look like must-buys... It's a little disappointing to keep having re-hashes, but maybe Lego is reacting to possible poor sales of the Last Jedi Sets (I'm looking at you #75177).  It must be hard to strike a balance between original or unique designs that might interest veteran Lego fans and more traditional models that new fans will want to have in their collection.  I feel like the Rogue One sets did a good job straddling the line-- The U-wing and Krennic's shuttle were unique, while the Y-wing and Walker were more  in the re-hash category.

Maybe TLG is just mirroring Lucasfilm/Disney and throwing the towel in on the disaster that the Skywalker Saga has turned into.
