My personal Star Wars movies ranking:
    1: III, V
    2: I, VI
    3: IV, II
    -50: VII, RO
    -2 million: VIII, S

I was upset from the very beginning once I heard that Disney bought Star Wars. I've read a ton of the legends books, before Disney bought LucasArts, so I was angry once they de-canonized EU. So much better than Disney's story.

I will get Tantive IV because I have missed out on a number of the other versions when I should have bought it. But I will wait for a sale at Smyths before I get it.

The 4th May exclusive is very underwhelming. I had the space worm set and moved that on very quickly after I bought it. As I had the same feeling that I got over this, an easy pass.

I’m quite happy with the May 4th promo, it’s something different and looks well done, especially as it’s related to the OT.
From one of the comments on that news story, and a link to a MOC of a Star Wars scene on rebrickable, it even made me discover how easy it was to use rebrickable, and import the full piece count into Bricklink (never knew I could do that).. so the order has been placed, and I’ll be building that while waiting for the May 4th :)

Curious to see if anyone else has wondered, with relation to the Podracer sets we have gotten, why we literally have not had a pit droid minifigure since 1999? Baffled by it.

Broadly speaking TLG along with Disney seems content to largely ignore Episode I (well, most of the prequel trilogy) from it's offerings. So it's really not that baffling. There were a handful of Episode I related sets in 2015, but the podracers and therefor pit droids have been pretty well ignored since the early 00s until this 20th anniversary set.

Aside from Podracers and Sith Interceptors.  We need more of those!

And the first versions of Pit Droids were not very good brick-built renditions.  They'd really need to do a moulded element for a proper Pit Droid.

    This is pretty bad...

Man, I would really love to have more pod racers. I'm thrilled to have Anakin's as part of the 20th Anniversary sets, but I really need a Sebulba and another. Come on TLG, bring those back with more advanced build techniques! Actually a UCS pod racer set with 3-4 could be really cool.

Yes! I would buy any podracer they'd make! Actually, I'd probably buy all of them, if they made them all!

A master builder series-style (like #10236 or #75222) Mos Espa Podrace set with like 6-8 podracers would definitely be something I'd like to see.

And as far as why I am confused by us not getting a pit droid minifig, it's because it's been 20 years, and there have been a few podracers since then (I guess only 7962 and 75258, but still....).

As far as I'm aware, Hasbro hasn't done any pit droid action figures since maybe 2000, 2001 kinda time, so I'm wondering if it's more that there's no expression of interest. I mean, they only ever appear in TPM. Hate to say it, but mature fans are notorious for not liking the PT. And to the ST generation, why would they be interested in pit droids? I suspect that if it weren't for CW, we'd see very little PT-era stuff at all, so a background droid from one largely hated-on film? While there is definitely an element of pandering-to-fans in the merchandise industry, the main goal is to make money. If there's no demand, they're not gonna make it. There's little indication that anyone wants pit droids, or anything PT not CW-related, so they're not going to make much of it.
  • KaitchKaitch Member Posts: 386
^So after writing all that, I got curious. I went on the database and looked at the last page of sets under Theme: Star Wars (200 entries per page), and flicked through the last 107 entries for the PT, non-CW stuff. I've been a bit generous in my definition of "non-CW", but here's what I found:

2018 Advent Calendar - contains a Naboo Starfighter
    Darth Maul buildable figure
Obi-Wan Kenobi minifig, AotC time-period - gift with the magazine
    Naboo starfighter polybag
    Podracer polybag
    Naboo Starfighter micro fighter
    Sith Infiltrator micro fighter
Droid gunship - with figures for RotS Battle of Kashyyyk
AT-AP - with figures for RotS Battle of Kashyyyk
    Anakin's Podracer 20th Anniversary Set
Clone Scout Walker 20th Anniversary Set - with figures for RotS Battle of Kashyyyk

That's about a year and half of sets, and I doubt we'd have those two polybags and the podracer if it weren't the 20th annicersary, and those were staples of the first few years. PT stuff just isn't being made.

And while I do like the idea of a master builder series podracer arena, the last time they did a PT UCS was Obi-Wan's Starfighter in 2010, preceded by the brick-built figure General Grievous (2008), the Naboo Starfighter (2002) and the Darth Maul bust (2001), which tend to either not be talked about, or referred to as not deserving UCS status.

Along those notes @Kaitch, I should mention for reference that there is a pit droid in the Rebels TV show. At least in the first episode (my son and I just started watching it).

Wow. I love those, but I gotta be honest... There is zero chance I could finish either one, even with instructions and all the pieces!
  • KaitchKaitch Member Posts: 386
In case anyone's interested, I've been checking the action figure databases. Since the TPM line in 1999/2000, Hasbro has only released pit droids on two occasions, both in 2012. One is in the Vintage Collection, and the other was two droids in a Mos Espa Arena 5-pack as part of the Discover the Force line, a line both exclusive t Walmart and very poorly-selling.

I mean, it's not like it's the centerpiece of a set..... it's just a throw-in minifigure, that belongs with a podracer, they're the crew..... it's just something that should be in there.

Legohouse on insta have said that they are having 20% off selected Lego sets for 4th May (3rd to 6th May) BB-8 #75187, Porg #75230, and solo MF #75212. I assume this is what will be in the [email protected] May 3rd to 6th i.e. the same.

I have a question. The Lego VIP flyer about the May 4th promos I got seemed to say the Naboo Starfighter polybag would only be available in stores. Does that mean that if I buy the requisite amount from [email protected], I still wouldn't get one?

So who's going to be buying SW stuff o er the weekend on the May 4th deals?

Looking long and hard at Tantive IV and keep telling myself "It's not UCS".

It really depends on what the deals are. My wanted list is pretty short on SW sets these days.

Whether it is UCS or not may determine how soon it will be available elsewhere (Amazon, John Lewis, Smyths, Asda etc. in the UK), and at a good discount.

The "looks like a UCS but it isn't " BB8 was available all over and at a good level of discount quite early on.

It's a matter of deciding whether to pop down to my local Lego shop to get the poster, Naboo fighter, battle of Hoth diorama  and double VIP points and ebay/trade the freebies to subsidise the full RRP cost or wait for one of the aforementioned retailers to sell for maybe 40% off at some point.

I have to be selective with a lack of room situation these days too.

Whether the sets are available widely at retail from the get-go has to do with whether or not they're D2C sets, not whether or not they're UCS. Granted, from the Sandcrawler up until last year LEGO was considering ALL their Star Wars D2C sets UCS, but that didn't go over so well with AFOLs.
Overall, though, it's surprising to me that it's become so controversial anymore when LEGO releases a Star Wars D2C set that people don't consider a "true" UCS set. I guess a lot of it seems to stem from the idea that playset-style D2C sets are taking the place of "true" UCS sets?
But even so, I don't feel like this idea that UCS sets were a guaranteed every year thing used to be the norm — and even if it was, it didn't seem to diminish people's excitement for #10195 and #10198 back in 2009, a year that otherwise didn't have any "true" UCS sets.

UCS, not UCS, don't really care what the official TLG stance is on the new Tantive IV, I will be getting it for Father's Day (for Australia it's later in the year), especially with how TLG has chopped & changed on whether Market Street is or isn't a Modular.

#10236 had far more and is labeled a UCS, haha.

I take the simple approach: If it is labeled as such by Lego, then it is UCS. This isn't, so it's not UCS.

Although I've passed on May the 4th offers more often than not since exclusive minifigures stopped being the promotional item, this mini Hoth diorama is really nice, and it will complement my Darth Vader Bust nicely as the second addition to my 20th Anniversary lineup.

As to what I would buy to get it? It has been a long time since I got a Snowspeeder, and this anniversary edition comes with a minifigure I never had growing up, the Cloud City Lando. So that and the latest Sandcrawler, since that vehicle is missing from my collection.

Thanks to the review here on Brickset, I see they still haven't made a Tantive IV that I would want to definitely buy yet. Too kiddie looking and tiny interior space (a cockpit and a conference room). After the Old Republic Jedi Cruiser ship from 2013, I won't be buying anymore shrunken playships. Go full UCS or go home!

I'm not too bothered whether it is UCS or not from a display point of view, more from the likelihood that it will or will not get discounted to a significant degree pretty soon after launch.

If I could buy this, get double points and sell the Naboo starfighter/Battle of Hoth diorama for £30, i'd consider it just about worth getting now. They're 2 freebies I don't really see the value in keeping for myself.

Fate may have intervened...Just paid out about £180 for a decent DA polisher for my car and a few bits and then I discover a dirty great screw in one of my tyres - there's £100 for a new one, and its barely 2 months old. Grrr!

If it had not been for the 20th anniversary of SW Lego and May the 4th, looking for some more info, and out of curiosity about the stellar mental raving Lego fan excitement about this year's offerings (or lack thereof) etc. I would not have stumbled upon this sad news of Peter Mayhew. Apparently he already passed away on April 30.
Never really think about this much, but the entire surviving cast of the OT are all a bunch of old-timers by now.
Just like Clarkson, May, and Hammond, are getting really old (just finished watching an episode of the latest The Grand Tour season, while reruns of over 10 year old episodes from Top Gear are constantly shown on the tele when they weren't as pruney, grey, and boldheaded as they are now), even though it still is the best most entertaining car show around.
Never bothered to look into what Peter Mayhew might have done else, besides play Chewbacca, or actually recollect what he looked like without the costume, without having to look it up. Am I the only one?

Been a while since i visited the site. Picked up the Tantive tonight. I am about a year or so behind on my sets. What are everyone's opinions on the Star Wars Junior sets? Are they worth getting just for the minifigs? Or are the minifigs all ones that have been released before?
  • CharmiefcbCharmiefcb Member Posts: 451
I'm thinking of picking up the Juniors X-Wing just because. The TIE fighter looks a bit shoddy but the X-Wing looks really nice in a simple sort of way.

Oh and any idea when the next wave of 20th Anniversary sets will appear or what they might be? I'm really happy with the 3 I have so far. (snowspeeder, pod racer and Slave 1)

@Fireheart I haven’t ordered it but the info on Brickset says it’s 15cm in height so the figure must at least be oversized.

As mentioned in another thread, I really only wanted Anakin's podracer. I didn't want any other sets so I had settled for not getting the GWP this year. I think it's nice, but it's not buy an additional €50 in Lego I don't want nice.

Then my band decided to buy a €45 Lego set for our bass player's birthday. I added a Yoda keychain for the wife and bam, I got the GWP. I'm happy. I seem to also be getting the poster.

@Fireheart I recently bought the LM2 Emmet clock and it is possible to unscrew the figure from the clock base. However, the feet aren't flush so it doesn't stand on a flat surface. The figure itself is around 5 inches or 3 minifigs high. I ended up buying a large LEDLite torch Emmet instead (8 inches high). I also have a Darth Vader LEDLite torch but you will probably only pick them up on eBay now.

I don't know if this clock is also made in China by the company 'ClicTime Holding Litd' from the UK, though I think it is.
Some years ago I bought a DC Comics Lego Joker Minifigure clock:
but what always annoys me about it, even though I do like the Minifigure shape/design, is that the clock is AM/PM and not a 24 hour digital clock. Also the LCD is of poor quality with the numbers not being readable from many angles, AND the fact that ClicTime did not magnify the minifigure properly so that you can put round 2X2 cylindrical bricks in his hands, and that his feet will not fit/clutch on to 4X4 studs of actual Lego bricks. (I once wanted to make a Lego bouquet and a joker gun with a flag reading 'bang' sticking out of its barrel to put in his clutchy hands untill I found out the dimensions are off in size)

I do like this new Darth Vader clock, but the poor LCD quality and lack of 24H display setting will dissuade me probably from ever buying it.

I was actually rather amazed as well as disappointed that TLG would not hold other companies to which they grand licenses for Lego themed products to higher standards!

The idea of huge Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, Batman etc. minifigure clocks is so cool, but either, the amount of printing is underwhelming (in the case of the stormtrooper), or the lack of items that are an integral part of their costume, such as Darth Vader not having a cape, Boba Fett not having a rocket backpack etc. that it does make quite a few of them not look as they should, as well as what i already stated with regard to their size not being brick compatible etc.

  • SeanTheCollectorSeanTheCollector Member Posts: 765
@TheBigLegoski Avoid the large figure clocks and get a large LEDLite Torch instead. The Darth Vader version does include a cape although mine was pretty creased since I bought it recently as new but it must have been on a shelf somewhere for a couple of years! :)

Well the thing is clocks standing around in your house telling time are both practical (that is if the bloody displays are not utter crap), and next to that are just fun to look at because, well, minifigures rule!
But a ledlite torch will just be lying around, and when you need it will be out of reach, when your smartphone (which you usually carry around with you) has one that is more practical and probably more powerful.
I really would love those clocks a lot more if they were of higher quality, and would have ended up with all of the ones that resemble my favourite SW, DC, and other Lego characters, if it wasn't for all their shortcommings I wrote about in my previous post.
Instead, ClicTime is a bit like a Britisch Car Company that exports cars with right-hand steering columns to the European continent where people drive left-hand steering cars on the right side of the road, and then wonders why they aren't as popular as they could be. Or an American car company for that matter that does not offer metric gauges, but only imperial unit speedometers on their cars they export to Europe, or left hand steering for the British and Irish market. That is just silly.
