Yup. This is Marvel's first incarnation of Jabba the Hutt, technically, I guess, the first incarnation of him ever seeing how Lucas cut the scene from IV with the live actor.
though I'm sure Luca would tell you it's not, despite evidence that it is
Me too - No UCS news at all yet for the back end of 2015? I'm assuming now we're having to wait until the turn of the year after the UCS Tumbler stole the traditional UCS SW Sept/Oct slot last year. More excited about a UCS Snowspeeder than UCS A-Wing to be honest. Give us the UCS AT-AT TLG!
https://misterbricks.nl/lego-star-wars-75098-hoth-echo-base.html
They might just have got the name from rumours but its something.
Price is in euros
I would also go for a UCS Landspeeder at some point.
Is the rumor about a possible another UCS death star true or has that been busted?
I'd like to see a Star Destroyer-scale Mon Calamari One or the Medical Frigate before a Tatooine hoverscooter.
Too bad that the new Hoth set to be released does not contain a Tauntaun, and a Wampa. I was really warming up to getting some more Hoth sets to go with my current two sets from TESB, and was hoping for an Ewok Village size Hoth-base set. Maybe TLG will design a cool 'Rebel Transport' in the future. The GR-75 Medium Transport could be an epic set!
http://www.starwars.com/databank/gr-75-medium-transport
Image a +/- €180 up to €240 set: a spaceship that contains lots of cargo pods, which contain all your basic (and beyond) necessities for setting up a (Hoth) base. Small to medium (modular) builds that will fold open and house all elements to make a: Tauntaun stable with one of those "weble weble" crying furry bipedal steeds; a central computer/communications/command centre; a repair bay/powerstation; a medical centre; a pod that houses a perimeter defence gun-turret; a pod with other provisions such as weapons and food of course. The ship is just a roomy cockpit/bridge at the front in which six or more minifigs can sit. The rest of the ship just needs to be an aesthetically pleasing outer hull with big engines at the back, and lots of space underneath the dorsal shell to attach all the pods to, and a handle that folds out so you can hold and lift the ship similar to the way you carry a suitcase. Best of both worlds if well executed: something pleasing to the eye and challenging to build with plenty of technic elements for AFOL's who like to build and display, and fidget around and reconfigure all the features of the finished models, and excellent for kids who will have a fabulous play set that can be at the centre of all the role-playing. It is more versatile than a Hoth play set. It may not give you a snowy Lego build Hoth landscape, but if you want that you can always get more white bricks from Lego's Pick-a-Brick website for that.
But this is just me letting my imagination go wild. Actually it is quite a good idea to pursue myself some day in the future, when and if I get around to it.
I realise that I am beating a dead horse by saying it, but I still cannot believe we have yet to see an official UCS AT-AT. It is just the right size to do something priced at around £249.99 to £279.99 which could be minifigure scale and have an interior.
£400 for a UCS AT-AT 80% of the size of Cavegod's? Sign me up!
The Landspeeder just hits me as a Tatooine golf cart. There are just so many other more interesting vehicles that would do well with the UCS treatment.
The AT-AT is iconic. The Speeder Bike is iconic.
People are often critical with the continuous presence of the B-Wing, but it is one of the more interesting SW vehicles. (I don't think it sold well as a UCS set.)
There are a bunch more from the Clone Wars and the prequel trilogy that would do well, but I think collectors scoff at just about anything not from the original trilogy. I assume most folks aren't buying a UCS set every year - so they have to prioritize such a big expenditure.
(From what I recall, both the Naboo Fighter and Obi-Wan's Starfighter did not do particularly well.)
Would a UCS Gungan Sub be a great set - yes! Would anyone buy it - no! (Until it goes all Town Hall, and we are fighting over a set nobody wanted until we couldn't have it...)
I recently bought #75092 , I haven't build it yet but I am about to, though it far surpasses the 2002 UCS Naboo Starfighter #10026 from the looks of it.
And yes I know a lot of things have changed for the better in Lego design compared to 2002, but Ewok Village is not labelled 'UCS', however the Sandcrawler is. To me the designation 'UCS' does not make all that much sense.
If TLG would only apply it to all the very large and very detailed 'display only' models where the designer's aim is first and foremost if not only aim to replicate and approximate as close as possible the dimensions and all the details of the 'real' thing, such as with:
#10179 MF
#10212 Imperial Shuttle
#10227 B-Wing
#75095 Tie-Fighter
etc.
It would make more sense to me.
Personally the only two sets available that carry this 'UCS' stamp I am interested in are Slave I #75060 and the Sandcrawler #75059 , and those are not your typical display only sets, even though that is essentially all I do after I am done building them.
As others have mentioned the AT-AT #75054 is for the menacing titan it is in the film a little tiny, even though I personally think it is a beautiful rendition and I like this set a lot. I don't know if previous versions were bigger, and if they are, by how much? Does anyone have photo's, or links to youtube video's where they stand side by side for comparison?
If, as @CapnRex101 wrote above here, TLG would release a much bigger minifig scale AT-AT with a full interior I would definitely be interested in it.
The AT-AT; the Millennium Falcon; X-Wing; the various Tie-Fighters; and the Star Destroyer are the quintessence of the SW vehicle universe. Which is why they keep rehashing those models. As much as I like plenty of vehicles from the prequels, and enjoyed the films too, nothing comes close to how iconic those OT vehicles are, except maybe the Naboo Royal Starship IMO. If lego ever wants to base a huge and very detailed set on that ship (on minifig scale) they better start churning out lots of chrome silver elements, if it is even possible to render that ship with its smooth surface in Lego bricks?!
@SumoLego
If TLG released an epic Gungan submarine, could it be that people might feel reluctant about it because of the JarJar factor, and how dismissive many people are over that film overall and the scene which features the submarine in particular?! Next to that a submarine probably holds less appeal than a starship or land vehicle to most people. SW Lego fans don't just buy a model of a vehicle, they want to buy the magic that models holds to them. As nice as the design of the Gungan sub is, it is not one of the more iconic ships from SW. When people are going to be overwhelmingly positive about the new trilogy as they still are about the original trilogy, contrary to the negative verdict the prequels suffered from, this attitude will also extend to all the ships from those films being appreciated more or adversely liked less because of the overall cinematic reception.
I hope the new films will be epic!
That way we are more likely to enjoy many new big (UCS; for what this stamp is worth) sets from both OT, prequel as well as sequel trilogy.
Expect the Echo Hoth Base to be revealed on the 1st, according to a friend of mine.
In terms of screen time, nothing is more obscure than the B-Wing, and it happens to be my favorite starfighter.
I think the CW Twilight is an excellent not quite UCS set, and a highly detailed version would be exceptional. But we'll never see it.
Thus, the higher likelihood of re-releases until there is a concensus on the legs of the new films.
Now, bring me a Construcable-scale Speeder Bike!
Cool 3 days, cant wait do we know when the release will be. BTW still waiting for the doctor who reveal.
Seeing as your Ninjago picture is still there do you wanted offer up another?
I'm not sure if I agree with @SumoLego's point about people not been interested in non-OT UCS sets, as we have only had 4, none in the last 4 years. And of those 4, 2 of them were not what we would now class as UCS now, been (being?) only 187 pieces (Naboo Starfighter) or 676 pieces (Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter).
I think it could be interesting to see what would happen if TLG released a 1500 piece or so Naboo Starfighter for example, on a stand, with info plaque and such.
And why am I not a suprised that a general Star Wars thread has morphed into a discussion on UCS sets...
Along with modular and SH/SDCC exclusives discussion.
Did I miss the other two non-OT UCS sets? (I really didn't include Grievous and Darth Maul as they are sculptures and not vehicles.)
I counted those 2, because they are listed on the Brickset site as UCS, and I didn't want to get too far into that discussion. Technically R2-D2 is a sculpture, not a vehicle....
I'd argue the landspeeder is more iconic than the speeder bike, though I think both would be more interesting builds than the typical ship (particularly the landspeeder because it has some asymmetry).
This isn't mine but I thought it was really funny.
As much as I hate Episode 1, at least Darth Maul was something different looking and he looked really cool. Kylo Ren looks like he's ready to ride his dirt bike.
So many of these new characters have thin slits in their helmets to see out of. This design is practical if you're activating giant lasers in order too blow up planets but not too walk around in all the time.
All of the main outfits Luke wore in 4,5,6 were interesting and almost "iconic", which made for cool action figures and minifigures. The same with Han Solo.
So we have been told that the reveal of the Hoth Base is tomorrow, so I am going to have a guess as to what we might see.
I am hoping that we didn't see the base we will get in that film and that most of the parts will be used to make a large base with the main feature being large opening blast doors much like we saw in the 2007 Hoth Rebel Base 7666. I guess we have to have a snowspeeder. I would like to see a Tauntaun or two and a Wampa but again I don't want a cave as I want one large build.
For minifigures an updated K3PO (white protocol droid) is my most wanted and injured Luke Skywalker is my most unwanted (only because it wound make 7879 completely pointless).
Luke, Leia, Han Solo (even if we are getting him in a hoth set next year), General Rieekan, K3PO, Rebel Trooper x2, Rebel Pilot x2 (if we get a snowspeeder), Snowtrooper Commander, Snowtrooper x2.
Could also have Vader, General Veers, Medical Droid, Chewbacca, C3PO, R2D2 (last 3 not really needed)
Price £199.99 / $249.99
Pieces 1800
Release January 2016
These are just my guesses, another guess is that we wont see it tomorrow after all.
^
Nope
^^
Thanks I must have missed that review, this is why I am waiting for a UCS one as I don't want 4 all different but about the same size and the minifigure line up in the last one wasn't too interesting.
What do I win!
We have also seen a possible small preview in the Star Wars mini movie of the set so I can't help but feel as if it's soon.
By far my favourite set is #75140, the mysterious B-wing like model. #75141 Kanan's Speeder Bike looks excellent as well, but still I think this wave had a lot of unlocked potential.
I look forward to more Rebels sets as well...
agree with most, overall the wave doesn't look like a great one, not a bad wave, just not top draw.
Obi-Wan's ship looks very nice and will go well with Anakin's from a few years back, likewise Kanan's speeders is nicely done and reflects the scene from Rebels well.
The two OT sets are poor, i will still be getting them, but they are not inspiring and certainly with the Carbon Chamber so much opertunity left on the design room floor, Lando and Leia are pivital to the scene, "I love you".... "I know".... Also why use Han? Surley a Vader/Luke saber fight around the chamber would have made for a better play value set? The Hoth set is just more of the same, it represents what it is well, but we have seen so many of these now it is hard to get excited.
As mentioned by everyone else the mysteriuos ship is a good looking one and i am intrigued to see what it is. The two battle packs look nice though and a good way to build up armies.
Still, there are a lot of SW sets listed we still know nothing about, so I wouldn't make too many judgements yet, i am sure we will be seeing a lot of great looking sets before long.
I'm curious as to why so many of next years sets show mini figures standing on dish type parts...not just Star Wars, is this a new thing or potentially elements that are meant to be photoshopped out before images are revealed?
It's a little on the small side, but it's Cloud City after all!
I'll be buying it as soon as it's available and then in multiples when I can find it discounted. I'm really hoping that it will be a good success for TLG, and with the inclusion of a decent Boba Fett it should be, so they don't have any reason not to release any other Bespin-related sets. And, I'm hopeful that it's going to be the first of a series of 'modular' sets too, but time will tell.
I wondered the same, and asked on the front page / main set comments, so thanks for the answer!
