General Star Wars Discussion

News from CM4Sci who has seen pictures, guess we all will soon

Microfighters -

Ghost looks different from the SDCC one, Hera included

Tie Advenced Prototype has a TIE Pilot? Dunno the specific name.

Wookie Gunship has a Wookie. tongue

AT-DP has an AT-DP pilot.

2 black boxes for TFA sets.

Sets -

Rebels Battle Pack - Looks like one of those Speeders the Scout Troopers usually use, but beefed up a bit. Stud shooters on each side. Minifigures are tan, no printing, one has a Greedo head. Others have A Wing pilot helmets and one of those 2009 Hoth helmets in sand green. Two have jetpacks. Plenty of stud shooters.

Empire Battle Pack - 4 Stormtroopers, all look the same. One has a jetpack. Plenty of stud shooters. Main build is a small station. Spring shooter cannon, aside is a seat with stud shooters, and behind it is what appears to be a station with small monitors.

2 blank box battlepacks for TFA.

Obi Wan's Jedi Interceptor - looks just like Anakin's. Has a red droid. Obi-Wan. Green spring shooters.

Droid Escape looks the same, R2-D2 has a plain silver dome so I'm assuming new print? Maybe? 2 Jawas, no capes, 2 guns (not stud shooters) Actual pod isn't a cone shape this time, it's like a big cylinder.

Hoth Attack looks kinda plain and boring. Some plates, with some small snow bits, random tan/dark tan plates. Tall white tower with a shooter thing. Probe droid included - minifigs are Hoth Han, Snowtrooper with a really neat looking stud shooter cannon, and a Hoth soldier.

Bespin Freezing Chamber - Interesting design. It's rather small. Think... 4 fractions of an octagon. 1st fraction has a computer and an Ugnaught. 2nd fraction has 2 stair pieces put together with the neon orange lights. 3rd has on the bottom what I think is a pin you can pull out, it is attached to the middle bit which is Han in Carbonite on a small stand. Last fraction has Boba (printing everywhere, cape) and what looks like a very small elevator or something? Platform on 4 tall bricks.

Those are all of the sets I've been given images of. No blank boxes for the potential TFA sets on the normal set pages, maybe the photographer skipped a page or two, I dunno. Enjoy! grin

Not much to discuss with microfighters or battle packs.  The medium size stuff sounds like predictable rehashes with the Obi fighter and droid escape.  the small Hoth set sounds decent for what it is. Freezing chamber sounds like it has interesting minifigures with a small vignette

Conversation will get more interesting when we have info abiut the big ($90+) sets of the wave, and the TFA sets.

^ At first I thought the missing prices might mean big sets or something but on the same list for city the price of the smallest set is missing.

    @SMC
I assume these are German prices?!
Looks like the battle packs have gone up €2 in price, and all other sets probably have increased too in between €2 and €6. Which means, as Lego is usually cheaper in Germany then in most other EU countries, that all sets will be even more expensive for all or most other memberstates of the EMU (European Monetary Union).
Totally unhappy with all these price increases.

Having said that, I am still curious about all the sets.

  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
^ Yes I think they are German prices, not too up on my euro prices, I am hoping the 30euro sets are £20 and the battle packs £12 but I might be being too hopeful.

Concerning the Hoth Attack set #75138
What colour coat does Han Solo sport? blue or brown?
So no TaunTaun and Wampa eh?

Kind of strange with Slave 1 out there #75060 TLG will be releasing another set with Boba Fett and carbon frozen Han Solo in it.

No sandtroopers either with the 'Droid Escape' set?!
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,333
    Droid Escape has two Jawas.

    Damn it!
I need some more sand troopers. Not that there is anything wrong with Jawas, except for their foul BO.

I liked the sand trooper we got in the Cantina more than the last Droid Escape so would be nice to have some more the same. Jawas are good I am wondering if they will have new prints.
  • TheBigLegoskiTheBigLegoski Member Posts: 1,437
Yeah! The sand trooper that came with the Cantina looks really nice. I would love a small / medium sized set with three more sand troopers (one with a orange commander pauldron/epaulet) and that informant called Garindan, and instead of more main characters just some droids 'they weren't looking for' you see passing by in the streets of Mos Eisley in SW IV: A New Hope. One of the downsides of licensed themes is that you end up with armies of: Batmen; Lukes, R2s etc.

The most interesting ones to me are rebels and empire battle packs, the carbon freezing chamber, and depending how it looks hoth attack.

^^^ Can we add a Dewback to that set, Lego will want to use the mold again and I would like another one. Like the idea of Garindan another cool mold needed.

You can't have a proper cantina scene with only one set. You need multiples. There are your multiple dewback :)

If you really want to have a proper cantina, you will need to buy this set just for the complete 'Modal Notes' band three times already, as the band consists of seven musicians:
#1 Doik Natts on the Peel Rod
#2 Lars M'yer on Gasan String Drums
#3 Figrin D'an on the Kloo Horn
#4 Tedn H'ai on the Fanfar
#5 Nalan Cheel on the Bandfill
#6 Ickabel G'ont on the Rakassah stand-up bass
#7 Tech Mor on the Omni Box
Then there is one other Bith (who is not a member of that band, just another specimen of that particular species) getting boozed up at a table somewhere else in the cantina.
    http://cantinacustoms.tripod.com/id18.htm
There is another female Rodian in the bar, so getting more Rodians is good, except Greedo's torso and legs won't do. (My Greedo had misprinted eyes, but TLG was kind enough to send me a replacement, though if I want to use that head I first need to remove the paint and redo the eyes.) Having more Rodians or several figs for that matter of any other alien race is good, period!

However it is not the cheapest set to buy, and you also end up with all these Lukes, Hans, and Ben Kenobis. Amassing a fleet of nougat and burgundy coloured landspeeders is another aspect of the set that makes me feel like maybe buying only just a second one, and only if I can get a really good deal, otherwise to me it is not even worth considering. My Lego allocated funds are limited, so I rather get more different sets then multiples of one, unless maybe when it is a genuine army builders set, and army building is what you are intend on.

Personally when I was building it, I thought that TLG instead should have just made two modular mid-sized sets you can connect to get a more complete cantina which would include some other essential Mos Eisley denizens such as the barman, Dr. Evazan, and Ponda Baba, as well as perhaps one of the bar-girls smoking that water-pipe.
But who knows what TLG will come up with in the future?!

    ps.
The word 'Takodana' makes me want to double dip my tortilla chips.
Pass me the salsa and guacamole!

You would also need anothe Bith for Jabba's Palace Max Rebo band. I believe it is Figrin's brother.

We won't get many of the Cantina Denizens, but you can try to make your own from what is available.

Yeah I got that chap, which is of the same species as Momaw Nadon (the hammerhead dude with the squinty stoner eyes). He is quite cool.

I would love it if TLG would make a Baniss Keeg minifig with a specially molded head, though some of the CMF aliens will also look good in any Mos Eisley MOC. I dunno, Cad Bane looks in my subjective view a little too meeh! A lot of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man minifigs blend in nicely with SW.

I recommend that you ignore it completely!  It's got to be the worst value set around; I paid £20 for mine and I still felt cheated by it....only a few years ago #8089 was about the same price and it included a Wampa and cave!

Ah, the good ol' days! I thought that rabbit character had originally been wearing a Rebel pilot outfit but obviously I was wrong. What do you expect, I haven't looked at this cover in over 20 years or more.

There's a hidden spoiler in that cover art! Luke is going to turn to the dark side in episode 7. He's holding a red lightsaber.

Lucas had it planned since 1977.

Earlier today I was thinking that this would be cooler than a lightsaber with a cross-guard. A light whip!

I figure if that new dude can keep from cutting himself they might as well go all out.

(I need to see if I can find my old Marvel SW comics.)

If you know this chick's name off the top of your head you're a bigger SW fan than I'll ever be or was.

Luke looks like a skinny Prince Adam.  I wish I could un-see that artwork.

Looks like Obi-Wan also has a red lightsaber.

The green Darth Vader helmet is also excellent.  Looks more like an angry bug.

I think the book actually predates the movie. I remember reading that the artists had to go off of the prelim art for the movie. In my collection I have the entire run of the series. Some really great covers.....and some pretty bad ones aswell.

Wasn't one of the ideas for episode 6 that Luke would turn to the dark side but in the end they changed it to how it is now?
