Now to hunt down the Ecto-1 somehow...
  • Jern92Jern92 Member Posts: 893

On the Ideas page it now says 'On shelves'.

That's the Ideas project for #21108, which is indeed on shelves. This is the project for the building alone.

I have a hard time believing the piece count and price.  Unless this is replacing the Tower Bridge or the Opera House.

I think a $199.99 set is far more plausible, or maybe $249.99.

However, this'll put my wounded Fire Brigade-MOC GBHQ on hiatus until there are more details...  (Not that I had actually started it.)

Didn't they reject one of the Ideas that was this same thing?
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ It is possible when they accepted the Ecto-1 that part of the licensing was to do more than just that and at that time they had planned to do the firehouse in the future.  Rejecting the Ideas design for it might have just been part of a "we already have that license and are doing things with it" type of thing.

I was in the midst of building my own version as well, but at modular scale. This will dwarf any other building I own, so I will have to wait and see if it is legit and how it looks. Too large and it may or may not be worth the cost. I have the ground floor finished and I was about to tear into the Town Hall to use dark orange brick for the rest...maybe I'll wait a few weeks to see how this plays out.

I'd also think, this is a stand alone set, so the Ecto-1 and the 4 busters should be included. Which means, superfluous to buy the Ecto-1 IDEAS set. I suppose they may not include it, but it seems silly not to since the IDEAS set won't be available as long as this set is and then it alienates a lot of fans as a companion set.

Yeah, I honestly don't know how you could get away with releasing the set without the ghostbusters.  That wouldn't add up at all.  I fully expect them to be different versions of course.

The Ecto is an interesting case.  I suspect if it comes with one, it will be a different design than the Ideas set is, for a couple of different reasons.

If TLG can do The Simpsons, anything is possible. The only Simpsons set I would ever consider purchasing is a Nuclear Plant, and I don't see TLG ever doing a Nuke Plant.

The Ghostbuster's HQ does look pretty nice (and gargantuan), but I doubt the Ecto-1 can fit in the garage. I guess it will have to go on the curb...

Maybe they are just re-releasing Fire Brigade and calling it Ghostbusters HQ.  :P  Just sayin

What if it's not minifig scale, something larger like mini land scale...
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
Assuming this is true, it will probably put the four Ghostbusters in civvie clothes and then add the other characters mentioned above. Bonus points for reversible heads to turn them into the Gatekeeper and the Key Master. :)

Well, there is a new Ghostbusters movie coming out with all female ghostbusters soon. Is it possible that the minifigs might be these characters?  That the HQ would be a companion for the new movie to create buzz?

As a completely different aside, I recall looking at the Town Hall sitting next to the BttF Delorean thinking - is this a coincidence?

I think the female GB as part of the minifigs for a GBHQ would also be excellent.

With 4,600 pieces, there better be a Twinkie in there.
    Maybe there'll be a Twinkie...35-feet long, weighing approximately 600lbs.

In the first post it said it is not linked to the new movie. Civilian clothes would be nice, but hardly a reason to buy the set for those figures collectors. I'd hope they'd add in some other characters.

I'm now conflicted as I've never seen Ghostbusters and I really want to watch it sometime. But if I do that, I will most likely want this set and as it is, there are other large sets I'm missing out on because I can't afford them.

As an aside, I would really like to have a Melissa McCarthy minifigure at some point.

Just watch the movies, they're epic!

nothing lego can do to match that kind of experience ;)

The animated ghostbusters cartoon series was brilliant

^ First - fire up Netflix and watch Ghostbusters!

Second, I'm not expecting a 'Mike and Molly' set to make it through the Ideas... so probably no dice on a Melissa McCarthy fig.

I cannot see the set selling that well without an Ecto 1 or the ghostbusters in uniform.
  • rawbobrawbob Member Posts: 535
There is always the alternative darker uniforms in the sequel

Hmm, I'm not sure it's wise to manipulate URL paths to discover information that has not been made intentionally visible to the public.

Sure, the information is ultimately publicly visible, but it does not appear to be by intention. In a similar way, exploiting an SQL injection vulnerability to steal information from a database is unquestionably illegal, even though the vulnerability effectively makes the information (unintentionally) publicly accessible.

But the most important thing to be aware of is ... there's a new Ghostbusters set confirmed!!!!! :D
And the server only uses the number part for checking which set is linked and the redirect to the right name is just to make the URL more meaningful for users.

I really hope it comes with the interior detail and movable wall shown in the submission. Otherwise, it looks really monolythic and repetitive to build. For more than the cost of two modulars, just the shell does not seem worth it.
  • Kevin_HyattKevin_Hyatt Member Posts: 778
Can believe there's going to be one but can't believe four and a half thousand pieces!
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 1,016
I would imagine an interior is inevitable with a set this size. Probably not as detailed as some of the other submissions, although the BBT set had a lot of detail for their living room, so anything is possible.

Maybe a Janine Melnitz figure! We could always use more females wearing glasses. (2 more in BBT also)

I am guessing they will discontinue the current Ecto-1 and have a smaller, 1-2 passenger version that fits in the building better. Have to think they use exclusive minifigs as well somehow.

So glad to see that this is to be a potential release. Yeh, I can now see that this was one reason Sergio's GBHQ Idea was rejected as Lego already had one very advanced in the pipeline. I can also see why it would have so many parts, having built a MOC of this a year or so ago it required a lot of parts, so with over 4000 pieces this probably will have some form of real interior to resemble the Ghostbusters HQ. And as for the size, just look at the exterior with the windows of Fire House that the GBHQ is taken from and to get some form of symmetry with the windows it needs to be a tall building and long enough for tan Ecto 1 so yet again pushing up the piece count. Hopefully it is done with either the same orange colour as the Town Hall or a Sand Red with either Light Blue Grey or Tan. Look forward to seeing images soon and its release. $349.99 currently equates to £225.33 but I think it will be priced in the UK a bit higher that the exchange rate for some reason

You would think so, only real question now is the size. Is it 4600 pieces or actually just a 460 piece set in a similar style to TBBT. Miscommunication or mistakes can occur when talking leaks.

This is my version of it following Sergio's version:

    https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152949614206804.1073741837.776216803&type=1&l=890e9718be

It took in total 5months on and off and LOADS of Bricklink orders. Don't ask how much it cost as I lost count after the first few orders lol

^ I think it's better to lose count of how much Bricklinked projects cost sometimes. If I knew how much I was really spending, I might physically harm myself.

Won't people feel a bit cheated if TLG released the HQ without the Ecto-1? (is Ecto-1 still available?).

Could result in Ecto-1 resale value skyrocketing, knowing that no-one is going to wan't the HQ without the car to display in it.

Alternatively, could be a re-release of the Fire Brigade modular, seeing as TLG as so keen on re-releases these days...

Those that have bought it will probably feel cheated if the new set comes with it.

Those that haven't already bought it will probably feel cheated if the new set doesn't come with it.

Ecto-1 is the new landspeeder. :-)

I wonder how long stock will last though, especially if the set detail is leaked and it doesn't have the car.

It's almost worth starting a rumour.

Its awesome and I would probably buy it. Will fit nice with other modular houses.

Still I highly doubt they will release this set,it just seems to unlikely for many reasons. Think its a hoax.
