Great Western Brick Show (STEAM) 2015

ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
Not long until this years STEAM so thought I'd start a thread for it. It's one I'm quite fond of, was my first real AFOL event, first place I helped out with Fairy Bricks and is my most local show. Who is going/exhibiting/selling etc?

I will once again be in attendance, helping out with Fairy Bricks, and thoroughly looking forward to it. @kioko21 (aka the wife) had so much fun at Bricktastic she's going to be helping out too.

Those who followed the Bricktastic thread might recall I did some classic space vehicle stickers which I gave out to a few people, though not a huge amount of people came and asked for them those that did seemed really pleased with them so think I might do something similar - probably a different logo though.

I'll be there exhibiting, the same train layout I took to Bricktastic.

I'll be there selling @Shib, this is my local event and I'm looking forward to it! :D

My Sticker is on the back of my car and people have asked me about it so thank you very much for it! If you have a spare one I know someone else who would love one!

@TheBrickLadd - I won't have the same Classic Space ones (maybe in a different colour for a future event) but I have got an idea of what logo I might do for the next one...if I have the time (and appropriate colour offcuts to work from) I might actually do two.

Looks like I missed out on some cool stickers last year - glad you're planning a repeat this time round!

I think there'll be a healthy Brickset contingent at STEAM.

    :-)

I'll be there displaying my train station for the first time. It's completely different to the one I displayed at Bricktastic, and somewhat larger too...

I'll be there as well. Even better that it's a stones throw away from where I live.

Going to help out on the Friday eve and Saturday and then take the daughter to the show on the Sunday. She can't wait!!

This will be my first attendance at this show. Will have to keep an eye out for all of you displaying and say hi

Typical........ Saving bigger things for down south. I expect more from a Northern Bricker ;-)

Is there much difference between the two days? If I attend it would only be for one of them.

I'll be displaying something I really hope will be finished in time! See you there @Shib

I'll be there, kids in tow, wife safely left at home, and a blood pact in place not to disclose how much we spend.

Pah! It isn't actually finished yet, although it's getting there. I also didn't have a lot of the pieces in time for Bricktastic, otherwise it would have been there... ;)

    Next year... next year...

Nah, unless you want to watch the presentations and talks, some of which may not be on both days. Other than that, it's just the progress of the mosaic which will be different.

Generally speaking (and this is a broad generalisation for almost all these sorts of events) all days are the same in terms of content - those that have talks etc might have a slight difference each day but you are unlikely to miss anything by choosing one particular day.

I can't remember what the numbers were like each day, but having worked for a tourist attraction in the past I'd generally say Sundays tend to be a little quieter - people spend more time visiting family and (older folks in particular) tend to assume everything will be closed on Sunday. This can be changed a lot by the weather forecast (moreso by the forecast than the actual weather) as a lot of people will make their plans and stick to them regardless.

Some exhibitors might not be quite so bright eyed and bushy tailed on Sunday morning, all that hard work from the Saturday takes its toll. They tend to pick up around 11ish.

Will be away.  After having such a good time at Bricktastic, I was looking forward to another Lego show.
    Ah, well - next year.

    Sunday last year was heaving!
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,469
Did say I don't remember specifics for each day last year ;-) I do remember that both days were busy but can't remember if one was particularly busier than the other.

Won't be able to make STEAM this year - blew my budget on Billund. Will however be visiting Brick in December, so I look forward to seeing some of you there :-)

I'm planning on being at STEAM on the Sunday, quite how well I'll feel is questionable as its my brothers stag do the day before :-)

For anyone that hasn't been and is thinking of going, this is an excellent day out, the standard of the displays is simply amazing and everyone involved is really friendly, hope to see you all there.

For anyone going to Steam this weekend who thinks they might also manage a bit of shopping at the Designer outlet mall across the road, check out the mall's website and sign up for their Privilege Club as there is a special shopping 'event' this weekend and you'll get some additional discounts. I think I'm most interested in 20% off at Ed's Diner but 10% off everything at M&S is good too. Plus many more!

I was just checking the site to see if I'd remembered correctly that there was a Wagamama there (colleague went to one last night and reminded me how long it is since I last had katsu curry!) and saw the other promotion :-)

While in the Outlet, don't forget to check out the Lego shoe and handbag. I think there may be one or two more in there if my memory serves me right.
