How do I change the batteries in lego 9398?

I'd like to know how to change the batteries in the lego #9398 4x4 crawler because it's pretty difficult to access.

take the whole battery box out and take the batteries out? 

It says how to take them out in the instruction booklet.

Pretty sure it shows you at the end of the book.  But from memory I think you open the drivers door and there is a pin or something on that side that isn't on the other side that you pull out and it allows the entire body to flip up.

Book 3 step 60 shows the pin.  Then in 59 the red lift arms that are across the battery box hinge up if you slide that blue 1x2 thin lift arm that is sticking up on the passenger side.
