Your best Lego find in terms of cost?

legoguyxlegoguyx Member Posts: 19
In your current collection, what would you consider your best Lego find (or finds) in terms of cost? That deal that just made your jaw drop.

About 2 years ago, I found the retired Lego Spider-Man 2 Doc Ock's Fusion Lab (4857) NIB for $3 at a thrift store. Earlier this year, I bought the Lego Star Wars Sandcrawler (75059) used, complete for $125 at another thrift store.

I've found several great deals over the years but my best find was one of my earliest: 2x Black Pearl: $30 each.  1x Queen Annes Revenge: $30. All sealed and minty fresh.

Best $90 dollars I ever spent.

PS: I can't wait for @Thanos75 to respond to this.  The internet will probably run out of words.

got 4641: speedboat at a yard sale new for .25 a few years back

In stores, I found a Queen Annes Revenge on clearance for around $75.  Not quite the $30 the above poster found it for, but still a great deal.  Online I found a near complete Imperial Flagship for a little over $100, and was hardly missing any pieces.

Came upon a stash of Blackpearls at Walmart for half off at $50 each. Ended up selling them later on at $300-$350 each, so great score on a single trip to Wally's.

    Car boots tend to be my favourite place for hunting out a good bargain. Sometimes you'll find nothing, sometimes you'll find people charging ridiculous prices, but other times, you'll find a gem. My best three this year;

    - A 700K Wooden box set, minus some original parts, but for only £20.

    - #3843 Ramses Pyramid complete and boxed for £2.50

    - #8106 Aero Booster, still sealed (box had one dent) for £5.

The only problem is that it can also be terribly frustrating. Saw a guy pick up a #355 Town Centre set, boxed and seemingly complete, in excellent condition, for £20. Got there just a few seconds too late.

I got four garbage bags of brick for free off Craigslist last year. Based on the instruction booklets it was originally well over $1000 retail.

    ^Not bad.

Mine is 50% off Sith Fury Class Interceptor. I hardly buy bulk lego so I guess I miss some awesome deals.

I bought this at a Target store back in January. It would not scan in their system so I brought it to customer service to see how much it would cost. I was surprised when the employee said $3.29.

I have too many to list.... Lol. I have worked really hard to stop posting my finds because I didn't want the feeling of rubbing it in. I still find some pretty good deals but not as many as I used to.

    #3368 Space Center for $0.03...

Found on a TRU shelf well after retirement.  Scanned at $0.03; manager said it was an error and the price was just an inventory placeholder but she sold it to me anyway.  Literally bought it with a nickel and got change ($0.02).

This past summer, I got a Grand Carousel 100% complete, for $500, and a Tumbler for $120 at a local Bargain Store.

Compete HP lineup. Donens of Star War. Even some western sets.

My second best find was 6 modular buildings listed for $200 for them all. I offered $600 and got ther in half an hour. I beat another guy by just 5 minutes. I was loading them in the car when he arrived.

Wow definitely many great finds here. I'm jealous! lol

    MadforLEGO, Dedgecko,
Sorry I didn't see the brag thread until after I saw your comments. I'm new here

I did look at the brag thread just now and it appears to be aimed at recent finds. My thread was intended for past scored deals/best finds but I can see how it can be seen as the same thing.

Mods please feel free to move my thread if necessary. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Man, this thread makes me so jealous. I've pretty much never had a find other than Battle of Alamut at retail price three years after it was retired and Helm's Deep for $30 off. :( I'm not really allowed to buy stuff off eBay or go to flea markets or just walk into Target with some money to buy Lego.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,709

last time I checked it wasn't hard to get battle of alamut way under rrp.

my best find isn't all that impressive, seeing how low the prices for this set can be, but it would be 45€ (including 15 for shipping) for portal of atlantis, one of the best price per pieces I paid so far, and still my favourite set.

Last year i went up to walmart 2 days after christmas and walking up and down their clearance aisle I managed to find a Jabba's sail barge for 30$ and 3 Lone ranger colby city showdowns for 10$ each. Other than that I don't do much shopping outside of the Lego store. It is hard to beat a 50% off discount anytime I want.

Not really the best in terms of price but the one that stands out looking back is when Tesco had Jabba's Palace, Helm's Deep and Batcave all half price and they had not been out long. When you think about how good all these sets are its crazy to find them all for that price in one go. Tesco have also had a number of sets for 75% off but I still remember that first sale it might be what turn me into an AFOL.

I bought the Rogue Shadow for $60 off someone on Craigslist. I think think the cheapest you can get it is $125.

I asked the couple why they didn't want it anymore. Apparently the guy worked for Lego (or maybe it was a video game team) and they used to give him sets for free.

Here we are, took me some time to find this old post. So glad I took pictures, otherwise I would not believe myself that it ever happened. It's the second comment on this page:

    http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/146/the-brag-thread-post-your-recent-great-finds/p19

As it turned out, all the sets were very nearly complete. Still cannot believe my luck there, that has to go on the list of All-Time Greatest Finds.

Wait, I take back my earlier comment. A few years ago one of my neighbors sold me 8039 Venator Class Republic Attack Cruiser for $10. He had gotten it as a kid and it was just sitting there gathering dust. He actually offered it to me for free but I would've felt bad taking it for $130 off.
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,004
I cant think of any great one deal....in simple terms poly bag sets for $0.25 I thought were pretty good.   But my best cost move might just be the sets I've found that I put back on the shelf and didn't buy.

Yeah I work for lego as a supervisor. You get a 30% discount the first 90 days. Then after that it is 50% on everything. There are some limitations. We can spend a total of 2000$.(4000$ of product) Some bigger ticket items like the death star and sydney opera house you can only get one of. Other than that it is awesome. @canon03

@brownbricks720 ....is that one Death Star total or just one at the discounted price?
  • brownbricks720brownbricks720 Member Posts: 47
One at a discounted price. If I wanted I could buy another (if they were in stock) for 400$ @ryjay

I suppose give or take 10 years of patience and a trade, a Mr. Gold for $35.00.

Also got a #5571 Giant Truck at TRU for $19.95 way too long ago.  (Best birthday money ever spent.)

And purchased a half dozen UCS Batmobiles at $17.99 on clearance at TRU.

    Wow, I feel old.

I purchased a lot on Craigslist that included the deadpool set and hoth base for $45 bucks about 6 months ago.

Wow! These are some amazing finds. If it weren't for this thread I would never have believed such finds were possible. Haha. I browse through the listings on EBay daily, and it is almost impossible to ever find anything for less than the average price. Though perhaps I'm simply not looking in the right places, I've never looked for Lego in a thrift or consignment shop before... my entire concept of where to purchase Lego has always consisted of the Interet and Walmart/Target. My best find was probably the Atlantis set 1894 for 40% off the $29.99 MSRP. Oh well!
  • MissKittyFantasticoMissKittyFantastico Member Posts: 197
A few years back I picked up a #10174 (the UCS AT-ST) at TRU for AU$50 - by way of comparison, that'd get you about two of those little four-minifig-and-a-teensy-vehicle sets nowadays, so I reckon that a pretty good deal, even allowing for rising prices over time.  Also, it got me into collecting Lego again after the inevitable post-childhood dark age; I was only in TRU looking for action figures, and now here I am with a room full of Lego again.

I was wondering what I should add to this, when it came to me. Just add the latest buy! Why spend hours thinking back to something that happened 2 years ago...
A while back I saw an ad on Gumtree for a job lot of Lego priced at £175. I was interested in it mainly to get the City sets which were partly built, which is all one really could see in the photos. After the ad had been up for a 3 weeks I asked if the lady would accept £80 as it had not sold. She agreed and last weekend I poped round to pick it up.  When sorting through I saw a parts for sets from the late 90s and early 00s, not something I would bother building. Did not think much of it, until I came across a large number of this brick: "Wall Element 4X4X6, Round". I also found a lot of an unusal round dark red brick. Never seem those before and could not find any info on Brickset.
Anyway I had plans of building the city sets and selling the rest as a job lot. This morning I found out where the bricks belonged, and it was to #10019.
