But for $89 and free shipping, for 1,601 parts of various designs and colors, I just couldn't pass that deal up. The building parts will really help my kids make some more interesting designs. :)
I always look for bargain, knock down price kits to fill my orders for my Moc's and Mod's. Look for eBay finds of kits that sellers have taken the mini-figs out of and you'll usually find a great price for the rest of the kit (usually buildings and/or ships, etc. sans figures).
Great kits for parts off the top of my head are Tower Bridge (10214)...just check it out, Spinjitzu Dojo (2504)...loads of weapons and great printed panel pieces, SpongeBob Heroic Heros of the Deep (3815), recent on sale games especially for their baseplates, Creator sets, Indiana Jones Temple of Doom (nice parts here if you can get it for a good price), Prince of Persia sets (I got a lot of them on sale...check 'em out, great for parts)....ummm and another I'm thinkin' of is, oh...get 'em on sale are the Pharoah's Quest kits too.
Look for the sales and broken up sets on eBay is the way I go mostly.
Grand Emporium and Pet Shop probably being the best, since Fire Brigade is rather gray and red...
I thought about Tower Bridge, but too much tan for my taste, and too many small 1x1 and cheese slices to be useful. It is a huge part count, but really, are they that useful?
Robbie House has the same problem. Picked that up for 46% off the other day using the B&N coupon, but what would I do with all those red bricks?
How about 10217 Diagon Alley? It was on sale for $135 recently. Didn't pick it up, probably should have. Already have one, but it would be a good parts kit, would it not? I haven't built mine yet, but it looks like it should be.
I have (2) 10193 it is so awesome, and i just ordered # three off amazon for the great price (Thanks for the tip LegoFanTexas) along with log cabin #2 and first copy of ferocious creatures 5868 (so many green pieces xD). About six cents a piece with the sale prices. I have have been down on my luck with eBay lately, buying complete sets that are not so complete :(, also all the "used" Lego i have bought via Bricklink and eBay in the past year or so looks like its thirty years old already with scratches, bite marks, yellowing and so on. So i made to decision recently to try and buy only new Lego, even though it may cost more. Has anyone purchased the bulk brick tubs that are available, are the parts any good? When i looked at them it seemed that too many of the bricks are 2x4's. I scored (4)x the Lego game pyramid at target for $9.99 also thanks to some tips off this site last week, base plate was just to hard to pass up since lego doesn't make them individually much anymore. Hey TLG 64x64 greens please! :)
Budgeting may have to come into play with all these deals to be had!
Trying to keep my "sets" collection to mainly castle and the new Christmas buildings (Though i did add 2x emerald night train since i missed out on the holiday train, this was really hard for me to limit myself too with so many great trains out right now.)
I just got into mocing a few months ago so now my world has opened up to whatever has good parts not just sets (Been selling minifigs out of those sets via ebay for extra parts cash.)
Will keep my eyes glued for deals on Diagon Alley and Ninjago Dojo they look like they may have some sweet parts (Skeleton bowling did for $20 but had stickers), The HP hut i picked up had good pieces too, also stickers though.
I agree that some of the large scale models are awesome, but would be bland for moc parts
Some many bricks so little time :)
Just a week or so ago I bought a few of the Halloween spider polybags, 50% off after 10/31. Lots of black clips, and some other good parts.
