I just missed out on a sealed gold Chrome C-3po for $10 at a local estate  sale because I had no money on me. and it was so darn cheap to!
If you think that sounds unlikely... The other day the Bat Pod (selling for $1000 in the after market) was available from the Lego online store in exchange for VIP points. I had more than enough points for it, but for some reason my points had been zeroed out completely. The Bat Pod sold out later that day, and I STILL don't have access to my VIP points a week later.

Do we know of anyone who actually got a Bat Pod? Maybe it was just to make us think the new program would be awesome.

Someone in one of the VIP threads got one. Plus it was boxed. There was talk about them possibly not having boxes but just being a collection of the parts.

You’ve trodden in an old inside joke. If you are curious, try searching “white range finder boba fett”.

First - WTF?!?!?!?!  Bat-Pods were available!?!?!?!  I don't pay attention for two days...

Second, if it's a collection or parts and no box - TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!

Estate sales are a strange place, often it’s a bank foreclosure or funeral, so whoever sets it up sometimes doesn’t really care and just labels everything.  You’d think sellers would research a quick google on one-off items, but people will Amaze you time and time again.  I went into an estate sale once just to check the place out, no intention to buy... but I always carry my wallet!

Saw on FB Mktplace a few days ago, seller said "should be all there" & accompanying pics corroborated. Looked up the Bricklink value & broke my own rule of "don't be too eager". Told seller I was "very interested" &.I started arranging pick-up plans (prematurely). I think he caught on to the actual value & since pulled the listing :(

I figured he'd be eager to sell, since he'd had no bites (Mktplace doesn't indicate past a week) & started marking the damn things down to an even more unbelievable price.

Dang.  #6866 for $25.  But 3 hrs away.  They won’t ship, but I had to ask.  Given I can find it for $85 locally easily enough, it’s hard to justify spending the time & gas to drive that far just to pick up in person.  Ah well, will have to keep watch & get lucky for one closer.
  • gelkstergelkster Member Posts: 927
@M1J0E- 3 hrs round trip or one way?

^ one way.  If that was round trip I’d be driving now :D. Calgary to Edmonton isn’t an uncommon enough run that I might’ve tried it, but when you add up the gas you realize it wouldn’t really pay at all.

Not that I’m not checking the ad & wondering if I shouldn’t get in the car tomorrow anyways.  I’m surprised the ad has been up for 4 hrs now.  That kind of a deal should go right away.

Ppl are having the same internal debate as you are I guess :D ;)

I had the same thought about my giant Classic Space score last Nov. Was posted up for 2 hours by the time I saw it, & I was STILL 1st to mssg the seller

^ must be as the ad is actually still up this morning. With a price increase. To $30. I can’t be the only person then that messaged her asking to ship. She must not have had any local pickup interest yet, & wondered if her price was a little low.

Ssller had this marked & pictured as "Lego Trench Digger $30" which is actually the B-build for 42028 Bulldozer (2014). Ad was up all night & I asked if all parts were there for the main model. She just marked it sold & said a recent buyer asked about & bought ALL her sets & she forgot to take it down.

So if YOU'RE that guy that got this in the Owatonna/Metro MN area...let's talk 😉

Grrr. I was hoping to be posting in the brag thread today but instead I’m here...
Missed #7781 Two Face Escape on Gumtree. He sold it for £5. The box was opened but nothing else had been touched! The sticker sheet and instructions were immaculate.

I originally created this thread so I get a notification every time someone posts here and that got me thinking: do people post more brags or tales of woe? I wonder what the ratio is...

  • gelkstergelkster Member Posts: 927
    I'm far & away more brags 😁

I'm assuming more brags.  I'm sure people who miss out on great deals are just sitting in a dark corner of the homes sobbing their sorrows away...

I tell myself that someone went on eBay and realized their pricing was way below market value...

I do prefer this thread, as it tends to have less Americans on it celebrating their cultural heritage of "stock 'em high, sell 'em cheap" sales techniques... or whatever it is that makes brickseek a viable platform. Weeps in UK.

No, I'm not bitter in the slightest - why do you ask? :-)

TOTALLY with @MaffyD here. 90% of the posts these days in the great finds thread are (in my opinion at least) really posts that belong in the ‘What are you buying lately thread’. Great finds (again just my opinion) should be reserved for those long OOP scores found in far away places or at incredible prices. Anything that is still on shelves shouldn’t even be there.  I generally wait for a few dozen posts to rack up before a quick scroll as there are rarely so few gems anymore. And, as an Australian who remembers being able to internationally onsell any set at close double my purchase price two decades ago... maybe I’m a little bit bitter too.

"this guy" has a name. It's Magnidjksmnbgsalra.
But yeah, finding a discount on last year's Star Wars wave isn't the same as finding a retired Modular in Toyworld for half off. Each to their own, I guess, but I figure nobody should find themselves posting sincerely in that thread on a regular basis.

^ Finding ANYTHING in Toyworld half off these days would be a bloody miracle.  I remember buying a few dozen numbered Santa Fe’s from them around the turn of the century for under $20 (and being totally chuffed that I could flip them straight away for $40-$50). I’m just off to cry and gently rock in the corner...

Come to think of it, as I had NO interest in trains at the time and onsold every single one of them, this comment is DEFINITELY in the right thread!

Looking back at the last few pages of the "Great Finds" thread, I've bent the posting criteria a bit & even veered OT a few times. & definitely (but deliberately) dragged out my classic Technic trade results.

Finally!  A mixed lot box that looks to be of interest!  I’d pick through this one for sure.  Yes, instructions were included for the pirate set, blacktron set, & house set.  Poster said she’d tried to keep all the pieces for her childhood sets, and her kids childhood sets that made up the box.  Offered up for free on our community gifting site.  Well over a dozen neighbors responded.  Per the group standards, with so much interest, the gifter can hold a draw to choose the recipient.  Sadly my name wasn’t drawn.
