Help Needed on an old set I am building

Well I'm currently building Lego Technic Model 8479 from 1997 and unfortunately the wires and battery box are all past saving (see pictures) to be used on a working model but once this model is rebuilt it WILL NOT be used as a toy and simply be a model on display are they still ok to use on the model or should I look for some replacements the other issue I also have is with the plastic rods being brittle and breaking due to the age of the model (see pictures) any advice? Or should I just decide to scrap it for spare parts
Thanks

Those parts are really cheap. Just use Bricklink or BrickOwl to find those parts.
