LEGO Club Chima Big Box Competition "largest LEGO set ever made"- 92 minifigures and 10,004 pieces

edited July 2015 in Collecting
I found information on a competition being held by the LEGO club for the "largest LEGO set ever made".

http://minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Lego-Club-Chima-Big-Box-Contest-Details.jpg

The set has 92 Minifigures and 10,004 pieces – Chima The Ultimate Battle

It looks like a combination of almost all (or all) of the Chima Sets released to date.

Some people will enter for the chance to win a massive lot of Chima... others will enter because they want a free 10,004 piece parts pack. I'm guessing most people will enter for the latter.

It is a co-pack of 25 different sets. Judging from the box, that includes duplicates of certain sets, such as the Vulture Glider and Mammoth Stomper! Truly an amazing prize package.

Agreed - that's an impressive prize!

Whether you like Chima or not, it really is an impressive prize.

I do have to admit, even though I'm not a Chima fan, the battle scene on the front of the box looks really nice.

Keep in mind that "Big Box" may just be an advertising ploy, and the winner will just receive all 25 sets in their normal packaging from the local distribution center...

If this thing really fits all of that in there, it would have to be at least a foot thick (12 inches), not to mention compensation for oddly shaped boxes as well. I have a feeling that the box itself is too good to be true.

    Visually, it's stunning, though.

They would't put the boxes of all the sets into a larger box. It would be all of the sets in their individual baggies packaged into a large box.

At least, that is what I would assume.

^ Yes, but what child wouldn't want a Lego set they couldn't even pick up. Talk about bragging rights on the playground.

Craziness.  This needs to be frontpaged I think.  Is this open to anyone or just Lego Club members i.e. children?
  • Vindic8edVindic8ed Member Posts: 197
I saw this in the club magazine I got yesterday.  It would be pretty cool to win this, for sure.  Even though the advertising is aimed at younger kids I highly doubt a kid is going to win it.

Seeing as how there is no age limit:

"The odds of winning will depend on the skill and talent of the entrant, and on the number of eligible entries received."

Umm,the entry form is for minors per local law.  So under 17 and under in the States?

According to the terms an conditions it is all ages:

If it is open to adults it's a shame it's US only, have to admit I skim read the ts & cs and thought it was kids only, but once I'd seen the US only part I wasn't really paying attention to the rest.

Sucks for those people that fall under that ancient charter of, 'Tho shalt not enter Lego based competitions'.  ;)

If this set has a population of ONE.... then I very highly doubt that it will be in a unique box.... TLG is far too frugal to make a single box...

It will probably be something like this....  (a 1970 UK promotion that was a large number of sets in a single shipping box)...

Since this is a judged contest and not a random drawing, I would doubt very much that Lego would let this prize go to an adult. There is some 10-13 year old out there that is going to have a very Merry Christmas!
  • sstoroesstoroe Member Posts: 156
I think the box looks legit.  I sure hope so.  It even has the piece count on it.  It can't cost much more than a few bucks for the lego group to print a custom box.  They must have a printer for that by now.  Also, the box has the piece count and minifig count on it as well.  They already did the hard part designing it.  They just need to print on some cardboard and box it up.  :)  Also, the contest says two winners.

I sure hope that lucky kid lets us know if it has a box or not?

Getting REALLY over the 'American only' stuff. I'm a mother with a child wither sever learning difficulties, it's hard enough already without companies deciding to discriminate based on location. I'd say to hell with it altogether except building with Lego has helped his concentration and co-ordination a lot. So I've lied to him and told him we can enter, I'll just tell him he didn't win. (This one is fairly easy, it's SDCC exclusives etc that make Christmas a nightmare...)

I kinda wish they'd do something similar with themes that are really collectible, say, the Super Heroes lines, but make it available retail (maybe at a small discount?).  Then I wouldn't have to hunt or decide between which ones I'm getting, just save up and get 'em all in one go, and get a fancy bigger box instead of a whole bunch of little ones (or maybe in addition to!)

LOL, I know I'm totally in fantasyland on this one though, because a) This would have to actually have demand and be available, b) I'd like a discount for buying all in one go, and c) I'd still have to have the money to make the purchase

They do have "super packs" of certain themes (examples from the Star Wars theme), but they don't include as many sets as this does, and I'm not sure where they're currently available for purchase.

I've seen "Super Packs" at both TRU and Costco. I've also heard rumors of other places but I haven't actually seen them anywhere other than TRU and Costco. Definitely SW, City, Ninjago, Chima, and Technic in the wild. No rhyme or reason, but it seems they are in stores around the holidays. They also seem to sell quickly so you have to get kinda lucky to pick one up.

I wonder if there is there a reliable source of when/where these will appear. That would be cool.

You're build is AWESOME!! It really could be an official set. As I said in EB, I'm glad it's made from physical LEGO and not virtual. You were forced to use what you had and to me that is always inspiring.

You're MOC is simple enough to keep down the piece count, yet it is aesthetically appealing and has numerous play features that are incorporated into official LEGO sets as well. And you also added an opposing vehicle to inspire play.

    Well, done!

If you don't win you should submit it to LEGO Ideas.

Rule 7 on the contest guidelines:

"The Submission must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race..."

Isn't that what Chima is though? A bunch of different races fighting and hating each other?

Well, besides that clause in the guidelines referring to real races and not magical animal people, the Chima tribes are generally fighting over resources and ideals, not because they think the enemy tribes are lesser races. Even some of the theme's biggest rivalries have been between characters who see each other as equals, and who eventually resolve their differences.

Only just over half as big as the Chima prize, but there's now a similar Lego City vehicle prize according to a leaflet that I found today, though the website mentioned doesn't appear to exist yet. 21 sets altogether from 2015 and 2016.

That's a lot of Speedorz. Do you happen to have any extra cards from them? There's a few I skipped because they lacked anything unique enough for me to buy, but I would still like the cards from those sets to complete that collection.
