NOOOOO! Temple of Light is retired! I've always wanted a Lord Garmadon too. I just started seriously collecting Ninjago. I'm hoping I can get 70751 eventually but can't afford it right now.

There are some sellers on Bricklink who are selling Temple of Light new in box for less than what it cost originally! Just make sure you read the item description to be sure you're buying the whole set — the two cheapest "new" listings on Bricklink right now include just the mech without the figs or the rest of the set.

Cool! I never thought of having the new temple in the corner. I like how the dragon is "flying". Now you need to get some more foliage. :)

The Airjitzu set looks really beautiful.  Wasn't planning on getting #70728, but I think I will put through a purchase now that I see that set up.  That's the problem with Lego.

@klatu003 would you be able to tell me what set the building on the left is?
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
The building on the left is the fire temple. 2507. We have it dismantled and packed away, but after seeing these pics, I am tempted to have my son rebuild that for me and eventually by the Airjitsu temple and create a display like this.

    ^Thank you @tamamahm

Looks like I missed the boat on that one.  Not too disappointed though, I think Lego will pump out some more beautiful Japanese structures, or I hope at least.

If anyone is interested in the Battle for Ninjago #70728, TRU and Target have it on sale!!

Thanks. I had been aware of this on sale at Amazon, but I had been in 'debate' mode. Then I saw your post, which had me considering again.  I finally got around to looking at a video review, and I have to say, I love the amount of 'special' features on the set, and decided my son would love it, and I'm sure he would let mom borrow it for a display occasionally, right? ;-) It will end up probably being a bday present.

That gives me time to plan out 2016 purchases of the Airjitsu temple and the Ferris Wheel. Maybe I can convince somebody here that the Ferris wheel would be a nice Christmas present for me. ;-)

Just got this set. Biggest of my collection. So excited. Best moment of my Lego career. Can't even be bothered to talk in full sentences.

Blast you klatu! Thanks to this picture, I now have both those sets on the left. I don't even have temple of Airjitsu yet, but I had to get those when I saw how nice they look together. Now seemed to be the time, with battle for ninjago city at a good price. Got the fire temple used with no dragon for $70. Works for me, as I'm going for a "realistic" feudal Japanese layout. Lego opened up the vault with the temple of Airjitsu...never thought I'd see the day where I owned multiple ninjago sets. Ninjago!!

The older Fire Ninja sets from the mid-'90's have a few interestinf gate and small building designs.  (Although, nothing in comparison to these sets - the Airjitsu set is unmatched.)

You are not the only one. :-) My son has the left set, although it is disassembled and put away. I just bought middle one recently. Like you, I do not have the Airjitsu temple yet. I am thinking next year, and the. Will out it all together. :-)

@tfranklin84 - LOL - I'm just "paying forward" for the purchases that other Bricksetters have inflicted on me with their wily posts of set layouts and mocs.  I got my #2507 Fire Temple sans dragon also.  Super Angry Kitty fit the color scheme as a stand in.  I highly recommend the Temple of Airjitzu, it is a outstanding build experience and a beautiful display set.

Now that Ninjago is an evergreen, we can hope that we will get a large building every year or two to expand our FFAW (faux feudal asian world.)

As someone rather astutely pointed out (not me btw) the set doesn't have any villains and this could be because they don't want the set to age too quickly when on the shelf next the currant line of new baddies so I would say they want it to last a few years. I guess the film might be the next opportunity for another D2C but I hope if we do get another one that they stick to this more serene setting.

I will certainly be getting the temple of Airjitsu...in fact it's shot ahead of the Ferris wheel on my "must haves that I don't have yet" list (a big feat!).

Question for you or others who are going for a general Asian theme: what are you planning to use for minifigs? Lego has sadly not released many "every day citizens" in any Asian-themed line. So far, I plan to use the ninja which come with the temple of Airjitsu, as they look like "real ninja." Then for the common folk, I ordered about 10 of Sensei wu's golden rice hats pretty cheap. To avoid spending a fortune, I plan to stick them on some basic minifigs I have. It's either that, or have a city of all ninja!

^ Kimono-Girl from the CMF line is great, nice printed hair and a little bit of back printing too. Other than that wolverine he seems like an everyday kind of guy to me.

Indeed, kimono girl is a beautiful minifig, and she will be going into my scene. Also, Sensei wu himself is great, but I'm baffled by the aftermarket prices on him. It seems he's been in many sets!

I use the Cleopatra, sumo wrestler, and the samurai CMFs. The samurai look great as citizens without their armor. You could also use a few of the minifigs from the Adventurers Orient Expedition subtheme.

I'm quite partial to the S3 Samurai.  That's a good lookin' minifig...

I think they should've included Ronin in this set instead of Dareth. I mean, they have a Smuggler's market and Ronin's all about that business.

What are people doing for Zane's hairpiece for this set?  It's my double points purchase for the end of October and I have ordered all the hair I needed (Nya and Jay) to make the piece time display that it should be.  I ordered Zane's hair in gray, but wondered if I am missing something stupid...

I hadn't settled on any solution for Zane's hair, to be honest. I'm mostly content to wait and see if LEGO releases that hair in silver in any future sets. I wasn't afraid to wait three years for Kai's hair, after all. But if I wanted Zane's hair badly enough I wouldn't be afraid to buy a flat-top in another color and paint it.

I haven't looked twice at Ninjago, as I'm simply not into the vehicles and that seems to be a large part of the theme.
However, having seen The Temple of Airjitsu, I just had to have it!
I also picked up Master Wu's Dragon, the Titanium Dragon and Enter the Serpent, because, well, who doesn't like dragons? And I do like a nice jungle-style temple-thing.
So far, I have only built the two small buildings (blacksmith and smuggler's market) and they both look fantastic. I can't wait to get going on the Temple itself and am especially looking forward to the shadow theatre build. It seems like a really nice little unique touch.

(Apologies for resurrecting an older thread.)

I just got an email from Lego offering 500 bonus points on Temple of Airjitzu, in addition to the 200 earned from buying it. I have no interest in Ninjago characters or episodes, but this is a beautiful set. Tempted - should I pull the trigger?

Wow, 500 extra points, so that's $35 in points for the set. I also had zero interest in Ninjago before this temple was shown. But I love castle/modular/any well made full building structures, so this was a must have for me. I love it so much that I now actually pay attention to the Ninjago line, though 90% of them hold no interest to me still.

I don't think you'll regret it; it's a fantastic building in its own right, even if you have no interest in Ninjago.

Go for it! It's definitely a great set, and while I'm not sure how much longer to expect it to be around before it retires, sales and deals for exclusive sets can be upredictable. There have been quite a few of them for the Temple of Airjitzu — in the past year LEGO stores in the US have offered at various points either a free #70749 or a free #70735 with purchases of the Temple of Airjitzu.

A few people have asked elsewhere what other sets go well with Temple of Airjitzu. #70734 Master Wu Dragon is definitely a good one I'd recommend to any AFOL, although it has no obvious place to perch on or around the temple and gives you both a duplicate Cole and another version of Sensei Wu. There's no really practical way to avoid duplicates or alternate versions of the characters in Temple of Airjitzu since it contains all the Ninjago theme's central characters (#70746 is literally the only Ninjago set other than spinners, boosters, and polybags without any version of the six ninja or their sensei).

Also, despite a lot of disappointment from people who were hoping for a specific counterpart to Temple of Airjitzu rather than a playset, #70590 Airjitzu Battle Grounds could go nicely with the Temple of Airjitzu nicely. It has matching colors, a similar variety of historic-looking Asian architecture, and even similar statues. The Airjitzu launchers on the sides can be easily removed for display purposes, and the ones in the center are both removable and largely unobtrusive since they mostly just look like decorative columns. Even most of the weapons in the set are fairly subdued compared to the flashy look of a lot of Ninjago weapons. And the set includes the Ghost of Sensei Yang, who haunts the Temple of Airjitzu in the story and whose likeness appeared as a statue in the set.

Airjitzu Battle Grounds is not out yet in the United States, but if you get it and do in fact end up liking the Airjitzu figures or flier gimmick, chances are it's only a matter of time before leftover Airjitzu fliers hit clearance shelves, if they haven't already! Thanks to Airjitzu Battle Grounds, all six ninja are available in powered-up Airjitzu forms, and while these might not have any use for a more traditional oriental layout I think they look really cool.

The big issue with any set you buy to complement Temple of Airjitzu is just figuring out where to put it. The Temple of Airjitzu is, for the most part, already a complete scene. The empty space behind the buildings can't easily be used without altering the buildings' open-back design, putting things in front of the buildings in the center obstructs the view of them, and placing things in front of the buildings to either side makes the already-large display take up even more space. So unless you have a very substantial amount of free display space, Temple of Airjitzu works best as a stand-alone item. That said, I have seen some people go really wild, creating a whole Ninjago layout using all the biggest and most impressive temples and other buildings the theme has to offer!

I just happened to notice this deal before I even got the email, and took advantage of this awesome bonus on the first day it was activated! :D But I'd already been wanting it forever, so it worked out for the best. Previously, between my Son and myself, we only had about five sets; four little, one large, but when I first saw pictures, I knew I had to have this set someday! It's so cool lookin', a fantastic build, and the shadow puppet theatre is amazing. I take pictures of my completed sets to look at when I'm itching to buy MORE, haha, so here's a nice boring Build Complete picture. :)

P.S. I used some of the VIP points for another Ninjago set, which surprised me! #70747, Boulder Blaster, plus a Dimensions pack to add to the Christmas pile for the Boy. :D Also wouldn't mind adding more flying pirates themed Ninjago sets sometime.

@LEGO_Dad77, thanks for alerting me to the existence of the shadow puppet theatre! I just found a video of it working and am absolutely gobsmacked; previously I was tempted by this set, but now, as someone who's been interested in shadow puppetry for a while, I NEED it. (Oh dear...)

Here's a video of it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_suY0Iz05-w

Haha! That's awesome @catwrangler ! It's way cool right? :D And @MattDawson , very well done. When I built this monumental set, I purposefully made it last over about five separate build sittings, as I knew it would be something extra special! ;)
