Nice Parts Usage! Suggestion box

Due to the popularity of and warm response to my new game, Nice Parts Usage!, I have decided to open my suggestion box early. Comment here with suggestions for parts to use in the game or maybe some minI-challenges or something. Keep in mind that not all entries will be used. I may thank you for the idea if I use it in the game, I haven't decided yet.

A good place to look at inspiration is the Iron Builder contest on flickr which does a similar thing but on a very different scale -
    https://www.flickr.com/groups/[email protected]/

Other possible ideas could be to do something like mini figure parts used in non mini figure ways. or I like the idea of doing a large specialised parts category e.g anything larger than a 2x10 (http://brickset.com/parts/design-3006) which is quite vague but it would be quite inclusive and easy for people to join.

    For some specific part suggestions how about the following;

    Piece of resistance - http://brickset.com/parts/6055611

    Sausage - http://brickset.com/parts/4520952

    Flick Missile - http://brickset.com/parts/4520320

    Brick Separator - http://brickset.com/parts/4654448

    ice cream cone - http://brickset.com/parts/6017003

BTW the game is a great idea, it was a bit of a tricky first part used - I do get the reasoning for the choice, but don't be discouraged if it takes a little while to refine it.

I was partly inspired by the Iron Builder contest, but I had never found out how to entrer it myself or how it worked. I saw on Lego Ideas a giant mining truck that used minifigure legs as pistons in the engine, so I was planning on using them sometime in the future. I might post the ice cream cone or something tomorrow as an emergency replacement if I don't get any more entries.

I would at least let it run till the end of the week if I was you, some people like to take more time over it, some people can only build on certain days etc, there's clearly a bit of interest.

As far as I'm aware the Iron Builder is run by Guy Himber of Crazy Bricks and as I understand it he basically contacts people who get noticed on the LEGO scene, so if you want to participate the best thing to do is keep building and sharing your creations -
@vitreolum was in a fairly recent round so he might be able to offer you more of an insight.

Brick Separator sounds such an interesting idea... looking forward this contest but I don't have much spare parts at the moment.

@TarDomo - I have to admit that part of the thought of that one was the memory of this build by @rancorbait

How about not just one part but a list of 3 or 4 parts that could be used

How about the stands that come with the minifigures?
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,662

    that's basically a plate, no?

    True I suppose.

I think you could do cool stuff with those, but all the entries would end up really simple and boring.

    How about this part?

Just a few parts I think most people would have.

I hope they are clear enough to identify in this picture.
I believe the goal is to use the parts in an unconventional way, so I would challenge the builders not to use the arch to build a bridge or tree and also not to use the chair as a chair.

Another idea I have is to go a different way and not pick a specific part per se, but have challenges where you can only use specific parts.

These are examples: Build a specific thing using only 1x2 bricks. (Or 1x3, etc.)

Build something using only translucent parts or as many as                                                 possible.

Create a scene using as many shades of green you possibly can.
(Or blue, red, brown, grey, etc. I picked green because I think                                               that has the most variety.)

Build something using only certain parts and only a certain                                                 number of each part. (This would probably take more time to                                           prepare.)

These are just some ideas I've had but the Brickset community might not be looking for something like this. I do have ideas for other singular parts but have to find them. :)

@LordofLego , how come you never build something yourself? :)

O.K that's annoying. Hope that post is legible. For some reason my sentences are not how I positioned them.

I don't want to go with a "build this" theme, because the part theme was what differentiates it from the rest. The parts in the photo looked good, though. It seems I've put off this week's again. Can I put you in charge of setting up a challenge if I don't have it done by Tuesday each week? Or rather, every other week? I really hate forgetting it for another week, especially since I moved to a two-week schedule. I don't need it done this week, I'll just wait, I guess, but next time if it's not done by Tuesday, would you be willing to set it up?

    I can do that. :)

Oh, thank you! I really hate not posting them when I'm supposed to. I feel like I let my fan base down. I'm glad you can help!
