Lego Store Grand Opening in Winnipeg Manitoba (Polo Park)

bobabricksbobabricks Member Posts: 1,842
I was wondering if anybody (*cough cough* @CupIsHalfEmpty  @rancorbait  ) may know anything about what is going on at the grand opening at Polo Park July 24th-26th. I'm just wondering what days will be what giveaway and what time it opens.

Thanks.

Talking to one of the employees on the soft opening last Friday who is in winnipeg from Toronto she said it will be similar to other new store launches. One day will be a free t-shirt, and one day will be the "new" mini lego store set free wit purchase. Not sure about the third day or what is on each day.

Day three is usually the store minifig set, or at least it used to be. I have not been to a grand opening in a few years, so it may have changed.

Went to the grand opening today and I got there real early so I was close to the front of line. Line ups are usually pretty boring but I found it fun to meet other people in the community as we waited over 2 hours to get in. It was great to hear about other's collections and Lego stories. Unfortunately the shipment of the Lego store sets did not arrive but we did put down our addresses and got vouchers so that we could get it shipped to us later on. Everybody in the line up all got a little poly bag as a "sorry" and once the doors opened I rushed in, grabbed my shuttle Tydirium and got to the till as quick as possible. I walked out very pleased, got a stamp and went to have a burger at a&w.  :p

I would have to say getting the promo sent in the mail kind of worked out for me because I was worried about the box getting crushed while traveling back home to Vancouver.

Did you end up making it there @CupIsHalfEmpty ?

^ I've not seen the stamp thing before, how does it work?  I'll admit I wasn't at the Vancouver opening (sadly as it's my hometown!) but I've been to several others including Alderidge and Calgary.

@khemellymel Vancouver is my hometown as well! ;) If you do not have a Lego store passport you can ask the person at the till and they will give you one with a stamp to that store. Every store you go to you can just ask for a stamp and they will stamp your passport. You get special stamps and stickers for special events like grand openings and monthly mini builds. I myself was at the Vancouver grand opening but I didn't know about these passports so I missed out on the special stamp.

I was there, also near the front of the line. We probably bumped shoulders! I had forgotten about the passports. Just an excuse to go back tomorrow :)

I had also ran into somebody from Chicago who had flown in for the grand opening. I was surprised to see so many AFOLs  who are not involved in our local LUG but it must have been a bunch from out of town.

Drove up from North Dakota, but kids slept in a bit so got a late start (main purpose was to hit the zoo).  Enjoyed doing the Yoda build with the little one and she was able to get her certificate. One hour after opening, the line was way too long for my taste.  I figured the store sets were long gone. US $ is pretty good right now, so prices are actually lower there.  What offsets it is the lack of a lego store in ND, so the sales tax offsets most of the savings due to the exchange rate.

@CupIsHalfEmpty I should have been a wearing a big Brickset shirt that said "bobabricks" under it haha. Well if you saw me, I was a kinda tall thin guy wearing a black shirt from E3 that said "CREW" in white on the back.  :D

I did hear somebody asking if they would ship the promo to Chicago and they were pretty much next to me so I'm sure we were close. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it out tomorrow but at least I can say I got one of the promos. Please do post a picture of those exclusive figures when you get them as I'm curious to what they are. If one is Flintabbatey Flonatin I think I will have to part that figure together. :D

^ That would have helped. I considered holding a sign up today. The line was a lot shorter today. Hopefully the picture of the Minifigs attaches.

No Flintabbatey Flonatin. :pensive: Oh well the construction worker makes sense as it seems the streets are ALWAYS under construction ha ha. It's also cool to see the new Shaggy hair piece in there. Wish I was there today but at least I got the store set from yesterday. Thanks for the pictures @CupIsHalfEmpty !

Funny thing, yesterday a couple of guys ruined the futuron space guy from the new city square for me. :D They were discussing all the little things that were changed from the original figure while I was standing next to them looking at the display. I gave the figure a second look and thought, wow, there is a lot wrong with it.  :|
