Nice Parts Usage! Week One: Star-Spangled Forum

Good morning, and welcome to Nice Parts Usage!, the new game in the forum. In this game, I will pick out a brick and you will come up with clever new ways to use it or show ways you have used it before. Unfortunately, I cannot provide prizes at this time, but you may donate a polybag or something to the winner. You will have all week to submit entries and I will choose the winner next Sunday and start the next episode, unless no one participates.

As you may have noticed, yesterday was July Fourth. For Americans, this was Independence Day. In honor of that (sorry, Europe!), I will be choosing a patriotic part for this week's episode. And the winner is...

6017001: Star Symbol with Tube

I have chosen this part because there are stars on the American Flag (50 of 'em) and it seemed fitting. This part was used in twenty sets as everything from cookies to Christmas decorations. Now it's up to you to come up with interesting techniques to use this piece. You may submit text descriptions or photographs of how you used this piece. You can come up with new ways to use it or show how you have used it cleverly in the past. Limit of five entries per person at this time. Now go, and show us some Nice Parts Usage!

That part is a bit too obscure for me, not got one,  may have been in 20 sets but 14 were Friends.
    May try the next round.

Hmmmm....I think I have a coupe of these....I'll check...if I do I'll come up with something I'm sure....this should be fun at any rate.

I thought this would be easy... Guess not. Anyway, I had other ideas, but I had to go with this one because it was Independence Day yesterday. I don't have any of these either.

I had a go, it was quite fun. Will have to keep an eye out for the next one.

Damn @Fauch I'd better step up my game  ;) Let's see what next week brings...
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,662
well, I have infinite parts in LDD :)
  • rdflegordflego Member Posts: 324
I...I don't own either LDD nor a computer on which to use it. I'm hoping that I have one of all the pieces that @LordofLego chooses in these challenges.  :#

As long as this round with the star piece truly lasts until next Sunday, I'm in. I just need to sort through my "tiny parts jar" to find my little stars!
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,459
This is quite a tricky first part to choose, being a decorative single stud piece it's difficult to find much else to do with it, but I've had a go and will post my attempt probably tomorrow by the time I get chance to photograph it properly.

I had to pick it; it was the fifth of July! It looked like an innocent little piece, how was I to know it would be so hard? Next week's will be easier.

This actually seemed a better idea when I thought it up than when I built it. Oh Well.

    Fireworks?
  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
I was kind of going for a single star in the sky type thing.....but while I was building it I thought fireworks might have been a better take on it....could have just swapped out the ray colors. Oh well, maybe I'll come up with something better next week.

Hahaha...I was actually trying to avoid it....when I first used the SNOT pieces for the rays it started looking like a cross and I was thinking a little bit of a wisemen star......I think maybe the trick would have been to make a larger black background and I wanted to put the two people on a hill below....kind of a wishing star with a romantic feel.....I probably rushed it a bit but today was the only day I planned on being up at school where all my good Lego bricks are...the selection my kids and I have at home is not as great....btw I found the star on cloud cuckoo land and on the birthday cake st that just came out. They were the only ones I could find.

I may have to post an emergency replacement piece. It's only been a day, so I'll wait until Wednesday to start thinking about that. You can use any color of this piece, by the way; I believe there are three.

Can I score points for the most unintentionally awful and misinterpreted build :D

I'll have a try to build something, think there is a star in the frozen castle (used as a 'crown' holder), fun idea btw! Thx dit suggesting some forum-fun!

Limited parts available to me so went with something pretty easy, but didn't want to go for the basic use of a star, so...

    Microscale Spaceship

    Microscale Spaceship

    Microscale Spaceship

microscale thruster burn was all I could come up with on this one, looking forward to the next!

Sadly, it's no longer built, but the first time I showed my daughter the Battle of Hoth she promptly went and built herself a little AT-AT.  These pieces were used as the blasters on the front.

Well there is a unique take on that piece. In the Airjitzu temple set they use them in different colors as leaves fallen on top of a building.

Holy shoot, that's a huge set. And that is a nice use of this piece. It seems Lego is secretly competing in the contest, too. I'm planning on using other Airjitzu parts later when people will have a chance to get them.

I already have the spinner for Zane (my kids wanted ones and I got so excited I bought Zane for myself....stupid Lego store demo).

This was fun! We are on holiday and I've only brought my box of mixels (series 3 and 4) and the two star-parts and I've enjoyed trying to make a mixel with it. I've only used parts of Mesmo, Wizwuz and Magnifo and the two stars (obviously). I think I'll call him Starrius! Looking forward to the next one (with a part I've hopefully got with me).

When are you announcing the next part @LordofLego ?
  • LordofLegoLordofLego Member Posts: 310
@Shib Later today when I decide.

All right. I suppose you would like a winner. I have carefully considered the entries and the winner is...

    ... @rdflego !
His miniature telescope with a single star in the sky really... Captures the imagination? Something like that. I can't write fancy. I'd pick a second and third place, but there were only five entries.

Why that's very kind, I thought @Fauch or @Shib had me beat. Now @LordofLego what's the next piece?

I'm about to write up the next episode now. I'm a space guy and yours was pretty, simple, and space-y. @Fauch said it wasn't his design and  you just barely beat @Shib.

Never mind. You were talking about the brick I chose, not the model you built. Oops.
