If you could create a brand new lego series what would you call it and what would your set theme be?

My series would be called Lego Scenes and would be a set about scenes such as sunsets mountains beaches forests and wildlife and other things

For me, a series of LEGOLAND branded theme park rides is something I've dreamt of since a kid. It's come true up to a point with the Grand Carousel, Fairground Mixer and Ferris Wheels, but I'd have slightly smaller scale and affordable sets which would include a carousel, ferris wheel, teacup ride, dodgems and, as the grand, must-have set, a roller coaster!

There is an US National Parks theme up for vote on lego ideas that I thought was pretty cool, little vignettes of different national parks.  I would like to see sets made for many of the  parks park, and then sold as exclusives at those parks.  It would be fun to visit parks and collect legos.

    Classic Literature

Sets based on books of such authors as Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Dickens, Alexander Dumas, etc. etc.

    Universal Studios Monsters

Yes, they made Monster Fighters, but my sets would be based on the originals. Make the builds and figures in a color scheme that makes them look like they were in a black and white movie.

One idea I had (basically http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Studios, which I've already found has more or less been done during my dark ages) was a Lego movie maker series; big sets with action features (e.g. a swinging Godzilla or non trademark character's foot could swing and destroy some of a building while your lego film crew filmed it) along with smaller sets such as stuntmen, camera crews, maybe even a snack van and a caravan for your film star!

Even better, this would work in with other Lego - have some Jurassic World sets? Film the sequel! Have some Forestmen sets? Film a better version of Robin Hood! The possibilites would be endless (especially if you got rid of JarJar from your Phantom Menance sets)!

Shouldn't say anything here because you know TLG has eyes everywhere....

    Just kidding..

I don't personally care about Steampunk, but I could see that as an interesting take on LEGO. Granted, it might be too Time Twisters. But I picture it melding pirates and space together (two of their evergreen themes).

But to create my own, I would agree with the literature one above. It'd be neat to have certain classic characters (granted, that is what the CMF line could be used for also). Not everyone would have read all of the books, so that may limit sales. It very well could help people get into reading the classics, but it'd benefit the target audience more than the company and I don't see that happening.

@Sethro3 - there are rumors on eurobricks that the next Castle lone might have a slight steampunk influence.

No doubt I'm influenced by recent events - I'd like to see a new Space theme based on a mission of exploration, adding a bit of fantasy and whimsical charm to current ideas of future space the same way classic Space did that to the idea of a moonbase.  Not strictly realistic, but with nods to realism, a middle ground between NASA and Galaxy Squad.

So off the top of my head, your headline set is the mothership - it's cool-looking and futuristic, but it's got a radiation shield separating the rear engine from the rest of the craft, there are solar panels, it's got a rotating section with the 'floor' oriented outwards, and the stationary cockpit has minifigure seats mounted on the 'walls' as well to show it's zero-g in there.  Your next biggest set is the base camp, and the smaller sets are exploration vehicles: a little buggy, a 'mother buggy' that has two or three robot rovers it deploys and controls, an exo-suit style thing for construction, that sort of thing.  I'd also love to see all the smaller sets (even the base camp) built in such a way that they can be partially disassembled and put into a compact 'storage mode' that can attach to the mothership - say if it's got a long hollow technic 'spine' that they can all plug into the outside of, between the crew modules at the front and the engines at the rear - which would be a good incentive to buy all of them, I'd imagine.

I don't know how in line it might be with current trends in Lego's space stuff (where currently there always seems to have to be an enemy), but I don't imagine any kind of rival faction.  For a bit of a storyline though, it'd be neat if the ground vehicles had little alien artefacts they could find, and in the second wave the major set is an ancient alien temple, maybe with an alien in stasis inside.  But apart from that it's just the astronauts.

The great thing about a theme like this is that you could easily extend it into the Expert line. You could have the regular sets be a large ship and a base, as you said, but make the mothership a huge set, the way Monster Fighters had the haunted house, or the way Star Wars has those huge sets.

This would be more of a subtheme for City, but I'd like to do some riverfront sets inspired by the cities along the Mississippi like St. Louis.  Sets could include a boardwalk with some small shops, a riverfront park, a paddlewheel steamer, and a barge and tugboat.

Musketeers FTW!  Small chunks of 17thC Paris (buildings, gates, wall sections) populated by musketeers, red guards, nobility and peasantry all riding around on horses, wagons and maybe even a litter/sedan chair.

dunno how strong the license is, but lego can make transparent limbs, so they could make Rayman sets

Money's no object? "Classic Passenger Trains"--a diffferent famous named train each year, with a three-year stock life. Sets would be like the old Super Chief but bigger and more of them, so you have five different sets to build a complete train most of which can be assembled as two different options for added variety and car-lengths.

    Examples:
--Diesel locomotive sets could be "Build as Cab or Booster."
--Head-end cars, "Build as RPO or Baggage."
--Sleepers and coaches could build to two different floor-plans and window arrangements.
--One set could have parts for both diner and lounge car options.

    Notable trains to be included:
    --Super Chief
    --Orient Express
    --20th Century Limited
    --Empire Builder
    --Shinkansen
    --Broadway Limited
    --Southern Crescent
    --Panama Limited
    --City of New Orleans
    --California Zephyr
--1893 Empire State Express (four small cars and a small locomotive, but the first time humanity broke the 100-mile-per-hour barrier)
    --Trans-Canada Limited
Just for a few ideas... most of my knowledge is keyed to North American trains, but I might suggest taking a look at how model-train manufacturer Walthers produces a different named passenger train as a complete product line every year for inspiration and some leading contenders.

Of course, I don't expect these to be up to the specs of the prohibitively big and heavy ten-wides I designed back when I was in college...
