Did you scan for the price just in case?  They were $59 on clearance for me.  The condition of the boxes were worn but not nearly as bad as this.  I opened both of mine as soon as I bought it to make sure everything was there.

What kind of Wal-Mart were you at? From the look of the ceiling it looks more like a barn...lol

Regular WM. A lot of WMs out in California have open, undecorated ceilings.

It's an obviously opened box and they're trying to sell it at a ridiculous price. That should be like $50. The only thing is maybe someone opened it in the store and no one noticed.

I had that exact same set on "clearance" for $119.99 at both of my local walmarts. It had a red tag and was in the clearance section. I did my due diligence and scanned all of them, but not luck. I'd chalk it up to a flaw in the system.

I wonder what the 'regular' price reads in the system... $399.97?

Perhaps there is a Helicarrier jammed in there?

My understanding is that the red tag is also used to indicate that they will no longer be getting anymore of that set in stock.

There is a ton of Lego at my three Walmarts with red tags at retail price.

I often see stuff like this in WM. The boxes are beat to crap and partly torn up. Prices are still too high. If you really want the set, take it to customer service and ask for a lower price. If they lower it, buy and open the box right then in front of them before paying to make sure that there are LEGO in there that should be there. It stuns me that they put such awful looking boxes on the shelves. Our Target destroys those I think. They have nothing like that on their shelves. Good luck!

^ I hope people don't beat up boxes and take them to CS just to get a better deal.

I found a small set -don't remember which- at Target that was crumpled. It wasn't one that I wanted to badly, so I didn't buy it, but I almost did just out of pity for the poor box. If I had known it was reasonable to anticipate a deal at Customer Service, I probably would have bought it, though.

Those Target boxes often end up identified as "salvaged" goods and sent to Goodwill or other non-profits.

I've asked about a beat up box discount before at Walmart. They offered me 10% off. I'm sure the set was intact, but I didn't want it badly enough to only have 10% off. (It was a $50 set, by the way)

WM has one of the worst clearance systems. I used to see all the time damaged items in the WM clearance section for only a few cents off normal price. Once, I found an action figure on clearance that did not show a price when it scanned. After 30 minutes of the associate trying to find it in the system, they had to relish it at full price because there was nothing in the system to tell them how mucheap it should be. When I questioned why the clearance price was the full price, I was told that was what the computer told them to list it as. I put the four year old figure back on the shelf and told them "good luck selling it" and left.
