They needed a couple of extra weeks to get rid of their excessively large Chima stashes.

Got that right. I think mine may still have a few Chima sets left from the surprise spring clearance.
  • Vindic8edVindic8ed Member Posts: 197
Do they still have clearance sales of like 75%+?  I remember when I was younger I bought the $100 Pod racer set from my aunt for like 7$ because of a huge clearance they had at target.

At my store all the 2015 Agents sets were 15-30% off, Guardians of the Galaxy sets were 15-30% off (although the Milano had been marked up $25 before clearance so it wasn't a deal at all), The $50 arctic truck set was 30% off, the City Coast Guard truck was 30%, most of the Chima was 30%. Battle of 5 Armies was 30%. Most Duplo was 30% as well but I didn't really look at it. Also found an 'as is' City Surveillance Helicopter for $36.

Same here in Ohio. Even a helicarrier on the shelf. With label, not a return.

Target on Peterson in Chicago has #41030 Olivia's Ice Cream Bike for 30% off. Most of the other clearance tags were 10% or 15% off as usual.

Typical pricing shenanigans at my local Target.  Was elated to find a Hobbit BOFA set with red tags as it's the last to complete my LOTR/Hobbit collection.  Clearance price?  $.50 over retail.  Left it warming the shelf.

Why would any retailer put Chima sets on their shelves in the first place? I just can't believe it's a very profitable theme. The only Chima sets I have are the ones TLG periodically gives me for free in my orders. I almost wonder if the creator of Chima was on a psychedelic drug when they came up with it.

I think chima is Lego's attempt to get the attention of the overseas market, specifically china.

Saw these red-stickered prices at my Target:

70223 Icebite's Claw Driller was $49.99, now $34.98  (no price gouge)
70142 Eris' Fire Eagle Flyer was $29.99, now $20.98  (no price gouge)
70145 Maula's Ice Mammoth Stomper was $89.99, now $62.98  (no price gouge)
70146 Fire Phoenix Fire Temple was $119.99, now $83.98  (no price gouge)
76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue was $99.99, now $69.98  ("original price" was $25 over MSRP of $74.99)
60035 Arctic Outpost was $50.99, now $35.68  ("original price" was $1 over MSRP)
60043 Prisoner Transporter was $25.49, now $17.84  ("original price" was $0.50 over MSRP)

Possibly.  I think boys like Chima ok.  Mine do.  It has talking animals that fight.  Problem is that the sets are kind of random.  And the core characters lack the personality that the Ninjago ninjas have.

Plenty of 5 to 8-year-old boys love it. We just gave a neighbor kid some Chima stuff for his birthday, and he was crazy happy about getting it. Like "ignored most other presents" excited about a Speedorz set and a polybag. Granted, he was pretty happy to get LEGO in general, but the Chima stuff did seem to be a big hit.

Limited example aside, most of the kids I deal with in this age range (daughter's friends + nieces/nephews) are pretty psyched about getting any LEGO. I gave a few Chima sets a chance, but there are so many odd pieces in them that our LUG has even started passing up on them as cheap draft sets.

My boys love Chima and the play value / tv show ecosystem.  HOWEVER,  they are tough to love as an AFOL. I made a rebrickable portfolio of just the 80+ Chima sets and the results were depressing. Not a great parts bin theme; especially compared to $5 Fusion!

Mine, too. They had 1 #76028 Darkseid Invasion for 50 cents off regular MSRP. Target's "original price" was 69.99.

I will say around here that Chima never hit the level that Ninjago had. Many kids played Ninjago at recess, but I never heard anything about Chima,

Found the Bot5A for 41.98 and had to jump on it.
Still haven't acquired a Lonely Mountain set. :(

My Target only had the #79017 marked down to only $51.XX.  I think normal price was $59.XX.  I didn't buy it, but might have if they had marked it to $41.98
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,001
Just saw that #79017 is $47.99 on the Target web site....so much for in store clearance at the $51.   I should go into the store and ask if they can price match their clearance item with their lower everyday online price!

My target in merrillville indiana had darkseid  invasion For 15% off plus some chima and artic creator same 15%
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 996
Odd thing about Target, sometimes they will have sets for less than MSRP also. I haven't seen any over MSRP yet, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.

I bought Darkseid Invasion when it first  came out for $10 less than MSRP because they had it marked down as their original price. I have seen since it went back up to official MSRP.

I love Chima for the heads/headgear. You can make some great MOC figures out them.

Target has been goofy....they have #76021 Milano Spaceship Rescue on clearance for $69.98 with the "was" price $99.99.   When was it ever $99.99?   And again, on Target.com it is $62.99!!  They are getting tough to trust.
  • GoldchainsGoldchains Member Posts: 795
It makes me angry about the Milano. I'm patiently waiting for it to go on clearance, and it only goes down basically $5 from the correct MSRP. Savages.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 835

I was at two (2) Targets today and both stores the Milanos are now gone...each had two last week...can't imagine they sold, but you never know.

One Target moved most of their stuff to 30% off..still 8-10 #79017 priced at $41.xx.  The smaller Target moved some Chima to 50% off.

      #70142 ($14.xx)

     #70146 ($59.98)

    #70145

#60035 Artic Outpost now down to $25.98.

I was also able to get a Architecture White House for $24.98 and the Minecraft 'The End' was $24.98

    stopped by a local Target.

    Milano still at $99.99
  • pansyppansyp Member Posts: 93
Target is also doing a Black Friday in July sale (today...ok?) probably to compete with AMZN's Prime Day next week.  More Chima's you probably don't want and #60049 City Helicopter Transport for $31.99.

Despite what it says, the 20% off cartwheel coupon for clearance toys will apply to Lego.

Yeah, but on clearance LEGO or regular price too? I noticed on their website the cartwheel promo is listed on regular priced LEGO sets.
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515
I used it on clearance process.  Didn't check regular items.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Being reported on brick picker that it even works on regular priced sets.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651
Has anyone tried it at the checkout though? Will they actually confirm the price?
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
I can confirm it works on clearance. No idea about non clearance.

Nuts! The app was glitchy today! :(
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
Yes, the app was  horribly glitchy today, but their registers were having issues also. I had a 30 minute period where I could not get the app to work at all.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
The app was getting killed by people logging into it and using it. They may have fixed the glitch where the 20% off worked on LEGO, clearance or otherwise, so YMMV today. Good luck. If I'd have known last night it worked on non clearance stuff I would probably have picked up a couple extra sets other than my lonely Darkseid invasion.

  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,788
I just added the 20% off of clearance toys and noticed that CartWheel is reporting the that 20% does not include LEGO. Not sure if that was recently added or if that note has always been there

i found some Series 1 Disney Infinity playsets and got them for 1.99 each :D

Don't forget to check the games area. That's where the Targets near me keep the Architecture sets. Found Big Ben and Empire State buildings both 50% off before cartwheel.
  • red237red237 Member Posts: 334
Just to clarify, mine worked with reg and clearance priced LEGO.

I am going to call shenanigans on Target "clearance" prices.  Over last weekend, I went to my local store.  I used the Amazon app on my phone to scan every clearance item I could find that held any interest for me at all.  With one exception, Amazon's pricing was far and away better.  The exception beet Amazon by $3.00 - wow.
  • matticus_bricksmatticus_bricks Member Posts: 651

^At least you could make some juice out of those $3.00 "beets" right?

I can also confirm that the cartwheel coupon seems to be working on clearance Lego. I used it on a Milano, which was on "clearance" for regular price, but at least I managed to save a little bit. Knowing how people are in my area, I think I would have missed out if I waited for a further drop. I decided to go today instead of yesterday, and that cost me the last three BotFA's in my area. It felt too shady to try to use it on regular price Lego, so I didn't bother.

Also, I found a number of Superhero sets and miscellaneous City sets that had been open and had minifigures stolen. The thief just left all the parts and empty boxes strewn about the shelves. I asked the employees if I could buy the remaining parts at a discount, but he said it probably wouldn't be worth it for me as they could probably only authorize a 10-15% damaged box discount. I left losing a little faith in humanity for the people that would so blatantly destroy a toy to make a few bucks.
