Fellow Bricksetters,
LEGO's Community Events and Engagement team have sent every LEGO User Group (LUG) multiple copies of Set 40107 Winter Skating Scene with a view to those sets being used in a building event. The challenge is to create something with the elements from all the sets combined and share photographs of the build.
Kev the Hairy Fairy has proposed that all recognised UK LUGs participate in a communal "build-off" event at a central location, with each LUG providing a team of 4 builders. He's at pains to point out that it won't be a competition but instead a social gathering of the LUGs designed to bring the community together and have fun!
Brickset has accepted the invitation to participate, as have a number of other LUGs including The Brickish Association, Fairy Bricks and Bricks Magazine. We're therefore in need of 4 enthusiastic Brickset members who would like to represent Brickset at the build-off. Building prowess isn't a requirement, although obviously wouldn't hurt....
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Sunday 26th July at a venue in Yaxley near Peterborough in the UK. There is a carvery on site where lunch will be available for £10/head if you want it:
http://www.thefarmersyaxley.co.uk/index.htmEach team will get 40 copies of Set 40107 and will need to try and build something awesome with the parts.... I'm not aware of any rule preventing the chosen 4 from communicating prior to the event and coming up with a plan, although I'm sure that
@SirKevbags will let us know if this is verboten! Kev's keen to display the completed models at the Bricktastic show in August.
If you can get to Yaxley on the 26th July and you'd be interested in being part of the Brickset team, or even if you'd just like to come along and hang out, then please post in this thread, specifying whether you'd like to be a builder or a socialiser. Kev's asked us to let him know final numbers (and whether you'll be wanting lunch) by
12th July. If more than 4 people volunteer for the team then we'll probably pick 4 names out of a hat or something.
Forza Brickset! (oops - sorry, this isn't a competition, right,
@SirKevbags....?)
Comments
Grrr, only a couple of miles from my house..... but its the day after I go on holiday to the south of Cornwall! I don't think the Mrs or the kids will let me go a day and a half late especially as I'm driving, but I hope that those that can attend have a great day and lots of fun.
So don't be shy people, put your names forward as either builders or just to come for the crack. Events without the public are few and far between and provide a much better opportunity to socialise.
I've heard (as yet unconfirmed) reports that some Ambassadors are offering incentives to represent their team and the use of performance enhancing substances is being considered! ;-)
Surprises are subject to availability ;-)
If however you are short by one person and nobody else wants to do it. I would make the effort and help by arranging bricks in colour etc. I was always happy to be the last picked when choosing sides as a kid.
No pressure, but if you do feel inclined to give it a go then I'm sure you'll be pleased you did.
A carvery should seal the deal for anyone!
Two down, two to go - who wants to join them, Bricksetters?
@TheBrickLadd and @Venunder - if you could confirm ASAP that'd be great.
TheBrickLadd can't make it we're looking for a 4th team member. Surely there must be one more intrepid Bricksetter who's up for this?
The set boxes are allowed to be opened and discarded but not the bags. No pre sorting allowed ;-)
;-)
(born and bred there)
But you should be saying July in particular, Dave!
Sadly I'm busy that weekend and can't go to combine this with a trip to see my mum but I hope you'll all enjoy the delights of the 'Borough.
I've also eaten at the venue and it was very nice, as I recall.
Regretably I am not the healthiest pea in the pod, or I'd come down on my own for the event and to meet some people. Would be nice to put faces to the names. I hope you find another team member soon!
Would have been nice to get more Brickset members there too as I am looking forward to seeing people instead of forum names.
Possibly also bringing my adult daughter, and / or a couple of other friends may visit for Lunch and spectating?
Supporters and other assorted spectators are most welcome - @sirkevbags please note the additional attendees for lunch etc.
Go Team Brickshire!
