I am still looking for a Vauxhall Victor Estate sealed in a plastic garage with banderole.... I have the 261-268, and finally found the UK 670 Jaguar sealed... but still no 671 Vauxhall!!   :/

Brasletty thinks they weren't sold that way.... but if the 670 was sold in a sealed plastic garage, then I think the 671 would also have been.

My Norwegian LEGO collector friend just keeps finding very rare items that were only produced for the Norway market.

It seems that the first regularly produced 1:87 scale cast LEGO cars came out in 1957.  These were not designed in Billund Denmark... but in Oslo Norway (Svein Strømber & Co. subsidiary A/S Norske LEGIO) and (near the Danish border) in Hohenwestedt Germany (LEGO Germany GmbH).

The Germany designed LEGO VW Beetle appears to have won this competition, and were produced starting in mid 1957... so the German LEGO subsidiary won this competition.

The Norwegian made car was an Opel Kapitän was not selected for production, and it appears to have had problems with the roof and "glass" connection, so all known examples of this rare car are prototypes, and all appear to have been taken from the Norwegian company by Svein Strømberg employees.  There are about 15 of these now known.... in 1/2 dozen colors.

Among them were green and brown-red.   These Opels are the "crown jewels" of early LEGO, and worth in the mid 4 digits.

These Opels may not have won the competition for actually being produced, but they won in terms of their secondary market value!!  :)

The VW Beetles ( #260, #261, #661 ) won the competition for first produced LEGO 1:87 scale autos, although in truth... compared to the already produced (since 1955) Bedford 1:87 trucks (Fire, Tow, Esso, Tipper and Delivery)... these VW Beetles were actually 1:80 scale... but the kids playing with them didn't notice.  There were many colors produced from the 1957-67 era of these LEGO 1:87 VW Beetles....
